Summary: An intoxicating saga!
Review: Okay, I first want to mention that I am a huge vampire fan. So when I saw this book in one of the NY public libraries I just had to read it. I had already read LJS's "Dark Visions" trilogy and loved the story of Kait's visions and Gabriels's dark personality. Gabriel's character kind of reminds me of Damon's character in the "Vampire Diaries" series only Damon doesn't have someone "special" to put him in his place. It became so intense that when I was reading the "Vampire Diaries" Vol. 1 it felt as if the words were no longer words but instead pictures of what was happening - this occurs in all of LJS's books because they are written so superbly. I couldn't put it down. You might think this book sounds like just another story about another unrealistic immortal romance that's not worth your time but it is so worth it. Despite the flaws the characters may have you grow attached to them - to Bonnie's fearful psychic powers, to Meridith's mysterious, closed off personality, even to Elena's self-absored beauty. You grow as they grow. It's always cool when you piece together the clues before the characters do and then woder if you were accurate as the story progresses. I thought this was a trilogy until, at the back of the 3rd book, I found out that a 4th book existed. I couldn't find it anywhere! After three years of searching, I finally found it on Amazon.com ... I just had to get it. No matter the cost, I was left in that much suspense. You know what? It was so worth it! The 4th one was the BEST! I literally read it in a matter of about 3 hours, only putting it down to wipe tears away. It was that intense. I felt as if the things were really happening to me. To sum this all up I have to say that the whole series took me to a whole new world. Damon is this gorgeous & powerful vampire whom Elena can't resist. Stefan is the type of vamp that keeps everything inside & fights his nature with the kind of sensitivity & beauty no girl can resist. I think LJS blends characters from one trilogy into another one to make a new identity. Like, Matt is similar to Adam, in the "Secret Circle" trilogy & Elena is similar to Jenny on the "Forbidden Game" trilogy. So my suggestion = don't just read this book, but buy it before it goes out of stock again. And I totally agree with the other reviewers who say that this should become a larger series. IT ROCKED!

Summary: A thrilling experience of horor and confusion.
Review: This is the story of young, beautiful, high school senior. When a mysterious, handsome, transfer student from Italy arrives in school on the first day, Elena makes it her project to have him to herself. What she does not know is that Stephan (the love of her life) is a vampire, who is trying hard to ignore her (despite his great love for her) in order to avoid horrible, painful memories. Elena and her two friends Bonnie and Meredith work hard and finally Stephan agrees to date Elena. What she does not know is that Stephan's older brother, Damon, also loves Elena and is much more powerful and seductive than his younger brother. Read as the two brothers battle it out over Elena and their past. Who will Elena choose, and what will come out of a love with a vampire.Like his other exciting stories, LJ Smith is able to weave a web of lies, secrets, and pain. In doing this, Smith creates a wonderful novel that is virtually impossible to put down. You find yourself through with the book and looking for the sequel. This is one of the best books ever writen and is a must read for anyone who likes a mix of suspence, love, and drama.

Summary: My favorite series from my preteen years!
Review: A friend of mine in elementary school introduced me to this series. I think she actually gave me the second one first, then let me read the series in order 1-3. I went out and bought my own copies because I loved it all three so much. And I was so geeked when the 4th came out! The series is about a teenage girl, Elena, who lives with her aunt and meets two brothers who are vampires. She starts dating one, Stefan, not knowing at the time that he is a vampire. (In this series, they can be out in daylight, they just have to shield their eyes with sunglasses). The whole series I have read countless times. These 4 books were all I read for close to 2 years. I pick them up again once in awhile to reminisce. Highly recommended for a preteen that doesn't like "typical" teen series (although now-a-days there are so many more choices than Sweet Valley High and Babysitters Club!!). I wish I had known at the time that she had other series available, although I've always been passionate about vampires.

Summary: Excellent
Review: I first read this book when I was fifteen years old. I became addicted. I started keeping a diary, because Elena (and later Bonnie) kept one -- twelve years later I'm still keeping a journal. I am now 27, and recently found the series (and the Secret circle series) as I was packing. I sat down, thinking I'd have a read and laugh at my teenage obsession... and was pleasantly surprised to find that the books have stood the test of time. Yes, the characters somewhat fit the stereotypical "teenage roles" -- but they're much more interesting characters than anything you'll ever find in other teen lit (including, in my opinion, LJ Smith's later books-- to me it seems that after the Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle series, she started writing in a more formulaic manner in order to sell more books). The twists and turns in the plot are surprising. The book ends with a cliffhanger that leaves you wanting more... and the next books in the series definitely feed your need.

Summary: The best series I have ever read!
Review: I cannot begin to describe how great this series of books is. I am a guy, and I still loved them all. I cannot remember how long ago I first read these books (I read the Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle around the same time). Anyhow, I have never found a book, or series that has touched me so profoundly as this series did. I am dead serious. Do yourself a favor, at least check one out from your local library. I really hope one day a mini-series or movie of some sort will be made. I can't believe the WB or UPN has not picked this stuff up yet, though it is way better than Buffy or Angel (though those two are good). Bottom line: I loved these books. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone. They (the series) are certainly on my top ten list of best all time books (and I am 24 going on 25)...

Summary: My least favorite L. J. Smith book.
Review: Elena is the most beautiful girl in school and she's dated many guys. Still, she's never even been close to falling for any of them. Then she meets Stefan, a handsome and mysterious new student. Elena really thinks she could be in love with him but there's one thing she doesn't know... he's a vampire. Stefan also has a vampire brother named Damon who, unlike Stefan, doesn't have any qualms about taking a human life. Will Elena be able to avoid getting caught up in their sibling rivalry?

This is my least favorite L. J. Smith book I've read so far. I couldn't really get attached to any of the characters. Elena is a bit too full of herself to be really likeable and Stefan and Damon are really cliche. The book is still a decent read and fans of teen vampire books will enjoy it. I'll most likely be finishing the series.

Summary: As a Crow flys overhead and darkness descends........
Review: Elena is queen of her school and she's bored with all the boys in her class and is looking for some excitment. Enter the new boy Stefan. With his dark good looks and black sunglasses shading his eyes he is an alluring mystery to Elena. Stefan holds a secret to terrible, to alarming to tell though, about a girl long, long ago with golden hair and lapis lazuli eyes...a girl who looks exactly like Elena.
Can Stefan's immmortal heart once again learn to love? Or will the evil menacing the once peaceful town throw everything into darkness as crows fly overhead like an omen of warning and an invisible force attacks innocent towns people?
This series does not rank high on My L.J. List the top spots go to The Secret Circle series and The Forbidden Game. But this being an L.J. trilogy it ranks only below my other L.J. Books which are in my top spots of favorite read.
Also recomendded-Sweep Series, Samuria girl (sorry if I spelled it wrong) and Fearless series starring super heroine Gaia Moore.
