Summary: wow
Review: i rarely write reviews for books - i'm not one to voice my opinion (very un-Larry-like) - but I just had to say a few words about this book. i was positive that josh swenson was real, and as soon as i finished his story i stopped by [a] website to read the reviews to confirm if this book was fiction or fact. silly me - it was only fiction. josh - the most amazing character i ever encountered - was only a fictional character; much to my disappointment. but i'm glad to have met him - real or not.

Summary: Simply Amazing
Review: I sat down and read the entire book straight through, cover to cover. And I cried three times. Then I cried one more time when I found out it wasn't true. This was a wonderful book and I'd recommend it to any mildly disenfranchised teenager... or anyone else, for that matter. I don't care if it's true or not, it changed me. I plan on reading it again tomorrow... and that is a rare occurance, indeed, when I can read an entire book then read it again right away.

Summary: Gospel Review
Review: Josh Swensen is not the average seventeen-year-old high school senior. He is a genius who enjoys math and making up lateral thinking puzzles in his free time. In one of his attempts to occupy his free time, he starts a web site called the gospelaccordingtolarry.com, a rebellion against commercialism, and in sermons talks about teen problems, mainly his own. Although the web site starts out as a small one with not more than three or four people visiting it a day, it soon becomes a sensation with thousands of people visiting it daily. Through his website, Josh runs into many problems.
I would recommend this book to anybody who does not like society's love of looking good at any cost. The novel brings up many good points about commercialism and materialism that make you think about what is important in life. It also touches on teen issues, some in a humorous way. This book is an easy read that will make you examine your own habits, and it leaves you hoping that there will be a sequel.

Summary: changing the world
Review: Seventeen year old Josh Swensen is a highly intelligent senior who wants to change the world. The only problem is that Josh is a loner and no one in their right mind would pay any attention to him. But who is to say that they won't listen to is anti-consumer alter ego Larry, who urges people away from consumerism one sermon at a time. This book was well written but the best parts were the footnotes at the bottom of the pages. I liked the way that the main character developed, but I also thought that throughout the book he was a jerk. Now granted every book has their stupid people that you don't like, but it shouldn't be the main character. The little bits of humor enhance the story and make it a little more interesting to read, but if consumerism is no interest to you, then don't read this book.

Summary: Amazing YA Novel
Review: Seventeen-year-old Josh Swensen is your not-so-average teenager, dealing with many normal teenage things. He worries about his placement in the social hierarchy of high school, and has been in love with his best friend, Beth, since the eighth grade. But where most teenagers are worried about passing their classes, Larry breezes through them with absolutely no sweat. You see, Josh is a genius. He taught himself how to do algebraic equations when he was just two-years-old, and since then he's always enjoyed learning. Which is what brings us to Larry. Josh, afraid of people not listening to his views on anticonsumerism, creates a website called THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LARRY, where he posts all of his views anonymously, and soon everyone in the country, teenagers and adults, are logging on and listening to everything that he has to say. Suddenly Larry is a God to everyone. The only problem is that now the whole world is trying to find out who the real Larry is, and Josh just feels trapped inside his own creation. Now it's up to him to figure out a way to dodge being exposed, or his life could be destroyed forever.

I picked this up at Barnes & Noble on a spur of the moment whim. I had never read anything by Janet Tashjian, or had even heard of THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LARRY, but it sounded interesting, so I purchased it. Let me tell you, this book will change your life. Josh is a complex character, who creates almost an alter-ego with Larry, to vent out all of the frustrations he has in life, but is too afraid to say out loud. He is interesting, and intelligent, and captures the world, in his intricately written, and poignant views on anticonsumerism. I will be sure to pick up Tashjian's other novels, as this was absolutely amazing, and something that all teens should read. A must-have.

Summary: Wasn't expecting...
Review: Such depth...such meaning...such relatability. I has some time to kill at a speech meet my school was running...I was in the library...doing something where I wouldn't be active but every five minutes...so I picked up this book off a showcase shelf...and well, I couldn't stop reading. Over the course of the day...despite interupts and running around...I got through 184 pages of the book; and I didn't want to stop. Pick it up; trust me, it's page turning. You will relate in some way, and you will walk away saying "wow". I didn't expect to, but I did. See for yourself.

Summary: Absolute trash.
Review: Terrible premise, riddled with bias and propaganda, poorly written..who likes this garbage?

It might have been digestible had the author not taken the book as an opportunity to set up her soapbox and bombard the reader with an endless array of blatant personal opinion and warped views. If you're the kind of pompous pseudo-intellectual teenager who goes to coffee shops with your chic friends to discuss politics you know nothing about and senseless, convoluted philosophies, you'll love this book. If you're intelligent: Stay away.
