Summary: CONTENDER
Review: Contender was not my favorite book. The reason I didn't likeit is because I thought it was stupid. If there had been moreaction it would have got my interest a little better. Like if Alfred would have beat one of his opponents so bad that he had to go the hospital. Personally I thought the book was stupid.

Review: THE CONTENDER

I thought that this book was great. I had to read it for a eighth grade reading project. I'm glad that I got to read this book.

It was a great book, people of any ages of can read it. When the kid takes drugs is great because it shows how messed up you can be. The part when Alfred goes to the gym to work out it shows that you should stick up for yourself. The book had great action and was easy to understand, I don't like books that are hard to understand and big. This was a great book so read it.

Summary: I think that the book teaches us a good lesson.
Review: Alfred is a high school drop out who has a grocery store job working for Jewish people. Alfred has friends that do drugs. He has people after him for something he didn't even do. Eventually he trains in Harlem for boxing where he learns to be a true man. He learns respect for others and himself.I think the book teaches us a lesson about bieng a leader and not a follower. I think the book was very well done.

Summary: Zalt's review of "The Contender"
Review: If i had to describe this book in one word, the word would be sweetness. This book showed what hard work and determination it takes to be a contender, or anything else in life.It also shows that friendship, real friendship is clutch. The only bad point I saw in this book was that Aunt Pearl was not fully behind Alfred when he decides to box. I think that whenever someone is going to try to do something that much, he needs total support. This is my review of "The Contender."

Summary: Contender
Review: I thought this book was great! At first I thought it was going to be really boring, but after I read more, I really got into it! I liked how Alfred never guit at being a contender. I also thought it was really cool to have Henry helping him the whole time and how Mr. Donitelli helped too. I think most people can relate to everything that Alfred does, like the struggles he has to overcome and how it teaches us about using drugs and trying to be the best you can be at anything you do! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be the best they can be!

Summary: Dissappointment
Review: The Contender is a very good book. I suggest that anyone who want to get some encouraging words of being a boxer should read part of this book. I call this book a dissappointment because a suspected more. More in meaning a better more exciting ending. It was ok for what Alferd(the main character) did for his friend but I wish he could of a least had a killing instinct so he could have been a champion. That was the dissapointing part to me, that he was soft and didn't like to hurt people but he was in the sport of boxing, it was very dissapointing.

Summary: It was a book about a boy doing things to be a Contender.
Review: The Contender is a good book by Robert Lipsyte .

Did you ever want to achieve a goal? That is what Alfred Brooks what's to do.Alfred is 17, who lives in Harlem New York, with his aunt and cousins. In Alfred life nothing is going right, until he found boxing. Now, Alfred tries to be a Contender in Mr. Donatili gym. This book was a good book, however th beginning was slow. The end of the book leaves a lot of unanswered questions.

Alfred's best friend James as another important character. He and James were about the same age.He and James played and hung around Harlem. The Contender is a good sports book with a lot of conflict.
