Summary: Pleased From Roanoke
Review: I have read this amazing book that I think will interest people of all ages, if you can read of course. This book by Robert Lipsyte is very well written and keeps the attention of whoever is reading it. The ending could have been better, but I think it teaches good leasons, while educating people about the world of boxing! I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in sports and reading. I would like to thank my reading teacher at Jackson Middle School, Mark Farrell, in Roanoke, Virginia, for choosing this book for my peers and I! Good luck!

Review: The Contender

The book "The Contender" is a really good book. It is about a person named Alfred Brooks. He gets beat up by some kids and then he wanted to join boxing. So, if them people mess with him again he knows he might have a chance to defend himself from those people that beat him up. I liked the whole book. I recommend the people that like watching the movie "Rocky" should read this book. I thought that this book had no difficulties in it and it should be read by anyone interested in boxing.

Review: The Contender

I thought the book The Contender was an okay book. I thought it was a good book because I like the sport boxing, and this book is about a young boy who always wanted to become a professional boxer but had to start out as an amateur because he had never boxed in a league before and this is his opportunity to finally become a live boxer and he wasn't about to let it go. In order to become a professional boxer you need to work hard for it and that is exactly what he was trying to do, you have to work hard and run a lot of miles a day, but you have to start out slow and then work harder and harder in order to become a professional boxer. This is his dream, to become a professional boxer.

Summary: Contender
Review: The contender is about a young teenager who is hanging with the wrong friends, and is going through some tough times. He gets chased and haunted down by some guys that used to be very close friends with him and now they want him for a severe reason. He seems to be scared and he wants to fight for his life, so now he tries out to be a Contender or a boxer. Through reading the book, I was not sure if I was going to like it, especially in the beginning. By the time I was almost done with the book, I like it more. Anybody, who is likes boxing or does box, I recommend you read this book

Summary: good
Review: The Contender is a short novel that is devoted in large part to boxing. At the beginning of the novel, the author introduces the main character, whose name is Alfred. Alfred is a black teen-ager who works for a Jewish man named Mr.Epstein at his store, which is called Epstein's Store. This is important because, when a group of his "friends" try to rob Epstein's Store, the police catch Alfred's best friend, James. Knowing that it is partially his fault for not telling the group about the recently installed silent alarm, Alfred decides to try to avoid them. So, when he sees them coming, he runs into building, which turns out, to be Donatelli's boxing gym.

To find out what happens to Alfred, read The Contender

Summary: The Contender
Review: The Contender was an astonishing novel that takes you to the harsh streets of Harlem. You will encounter life and death situations. Its a place you have got to fight to survive. Just like Alfred Brooks. It's the story of an eight-teen year old boy who hasn't discovered what to do with his life. He turns to boxing, a place where he has a chance, a place where he can make it.

Summary: My opinion of The Contender
Review: The Contender

I enjoyed this book. It was interesting because it showed how you could mess your life up if you choose to take drugs. Alfred, the main character, was a teen boy how grew up with his aunt Pearl in a bad part of town. He is usually getting into fights and stuff. My opinion of this book was excellent. James Alfred's friend and him have a little cave they go to for safety when they are in trouble. This book may change some minds of kids who want to grow up and not do too much with here life. Alfred always thought he would do nothing with his life, but in the end he did he became a Contender.
