Summary: TKO of a story
Review: This story was very good. It was a story about a high school dropout named Alfred. It tells about his struggles through life and how he struggles to get through them. In this story Alfred meets up with a man named Donatelli. Donatelli decides to help Alfred with life, so he turns him to boxing. This book was very good. I liked it because it involed a sport and life and I can relate to both of them. If you like stories about boxing or boxing alone and stories about life and how to get through them by a sport, this book is the book for you.

Summary: The Contender
Review: I thought that the book was good, but it did not have enough action in it. For a boxing book it went slow and they strayed too much away from the topic. If you like boxing movies you would like the book.

Summary: The Contender
Review: The contender is a stupendus story about the struggles of a 17-year-old negro finding his way in the streets of Harlem facing drugs, racism, and violence. His best friend is struggling with drugs, while he has his own life to deal with. To escape all of the conflicts of life, he becomes a boxer and trains at a gym where he learns that to it's the effort, not the win, that makes the man. I reccomend this book for any kind of reader. It is full of action, drama, and a very unique storyline that will keep you reading for hours.

Summary: Great Book!!
Review: I absolutly loved this book. One of the reasons i like this book so much is because it could really happen. Another thing is, it relates more to kids these days. The book is about a boy named Alfred. Alfred learns to deal with drugs early in the book. Then one day his friend asks him to help him rob the store that he works at. He said no, and his friend got caught. He felt really guilty about it so he joined a boxing club. He learnded how to box and became a contender in the ring. I seriously suggest reading this book. It's a more "down to earth" than other books that i have read.

Summary: the contender
Review: I read the book The Contender by Robert Lipsyte. I think it is intresting with the exception of a lot of racism. However, without the discrimination, there would be no book, because there would be no conflict. I just do not like what happened in the book, because people fighting over their skin color is ridiculous. What interests me is that I like that it deals with real life situations. The author uses lots of imagery because every scene that he describes I could picture. I felt like I was there. The author expresses his feelings in way that makes you want to keep on reading and not put the book down. The book left an indelible mark on me because it is a true story. The main conflict in the story is that the blacks and whites did not get along. I recommend this book to someone who likes gangs and always wanted to know about gangs. The age group that should read this book should be around 14 and 15 years old.
