Summary: something upstairs
Review: Great book if you love a mystery. Each chapter leaves you in suspense and wanting to read more. The book is not too long and not too short. Every moment is a blast when reading. The time spent will be satisfying. I would recommend this book.

Summary: Something Upstairs review by Vanessa C.
Review: I particularly enjoyed the first three-quarters of the book. The descriptions of Providence, both past and present, were rich and satisfying. However, the ending was both predictable and open-ended. I felt a bit cheated at the last page -- I actually kept flipping through pages, thinking I had skipped something. The predictability I can understand (and happily overlook) in a children's book, but an extra few sentences at the end would really have put my mind at rest without precluding a sequel.

Summary: My Favorite Book
Review: I read this book for my Summer homework in 4th Grade, and I loved it! It was my first book that I have really enjoyed. Personally, I have not enjoyed other books by Avi, but this book really caught my attention. Since then, I have re-read this book about 3 times and it never gets boring. It keeps you interested, and make your imagination run wild! I think that everyone should read this book.

Someting Upstairs is Kenny, who moved from California to Rhode Island. His new house is very old, and at night, suspicious events happen. This book keeps you interested every milisecond of the way!!

BEST BOOK EVER!!

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I think that this book is very good. I like that Avi has taken the time to listen to a kid and actually write a book about his story. I think that Kenny's experiece might not have been real but it was esciting to hear about.

Summary: Great and Mysterious
Review: I think that this such a great book, I had to read it in 7th grade, and I am glad I did.

In the beggining there is a family that moves in an old house. The story is about a mysterious ghost in the attick, and the boy that sees him the first time doesn't belive he saw anything and
is scared. Then after it happened a few times and the ghost gave him a few "clues", then the boy decided to invastigate.

After looking at old news-papers he finds out that the boy(ghost) who is in the attick was actually killed and wants justice done so he could rest in peace.

Well, I am not going to say anymore, because I think that it would spoil you reading. It is a really great book, and you'll find yourself not wanting to put it down.

Happy reading!

Summary: Something Upstairs
Review: I thought this book, "Something Upstairs" was a great book for kids to read all over the nation. Avi knows how to write a mystery that catch people's hearts, and minds through the power of his words. He set the time of the book between the 1800's and the present with Caleb being a boy from the 1800's and haunting a house which Kenny lives in, in the present time. Kenny seeks to help Caleb escape his ghostly predicament only to find he is in danger of losing his life if they follow through with their joint plan. Their dilemna takes a dangerous twist and the reader will not know the outcome until the very end of the book.
"Something Upstairs" is a book that you will not want to put down. Enjoy reading!

Summary: A Historical Blast
Review: I used this book in my 8th grade Language Arts class as an introduction to Science / Historical Fiction. My students loved the book; they would not put it down. The book encouraged my lower level readers to research other titles by Avi for independent book reports.

This book also helped me prepare my student for the book Kindred. It was a wonderful contrast to the novel Kindred even though they both deal with slavery. The young boy, Kenny, was a great foundation for a comparison with Dana, a married woman in Kindred.

I thank Avi for writing such an interesting novel that helps with Language Arts, and Social Studies instruction. If you are thinking about incorporating a novel with your core curriculum, this is one of the best. Your students will love you for it!!!
