Rating: Summary: Literary Disaster Area Review: THough I am only 15, Pride and Prejudice is the best book of all time in my opinion. After reading it dozens of times, I immeadialty wanted a sequel. Pemberly sounded very interesting. I have to confess that I have never read Pemberly, but from reading the reviews, I definelty will NOT read this book. The plot and characterization sound absoutley absurd. Charles Bingley had an affair??? Jane Austen would cry. What about Jane Bennet Bingley? Does she have a reaction to this? And besides, whay would she be having her second child a year after her wedding? How does Lydia have five children when Jane and Lizzy married a few months after her? Tennant obviously never bothered with science. Darcy having an affair before he knew Lizzy is about as absurd as Bingley's having had an affair. It's not a part of either of their characters. Austen gave magnificant characterization in Pride and Prejudice and if she were to read Pemberly, she would probably think that the author had skim-read P&P, if she had read it at all. Mrs Bennet would not make suggestions about conceiving in mixed company, granted she is crass. Mr. Bennet being dead was the first thing that turned me off from this book, he was delightful to read about, though only a minor character. Emma Tennant should have understood Pride and Prejudice and having thoroughly read Chapter 61 dozens of times. Austen herself touched upon what happened later on her character's lives. NOTHING Tennat wrote could be true, or should I say, "Austenly correct." From previous reviews everything Tennat wrote was horrible. Lizzy must have lost her spunk, wit, charm, and thinking ability in the duration of her first year at Pemberly. I could never see her like that, and neither could Jane Austen for that matter. I believe she would burn Pemberly and if she were alive everybody else would help her do it. This is a book to stay away from at all costs. If you're a Die Hard Austen Fan like myself, run for dear life from this book. Don't read it to keep your life. Jane Austen would talk to God to give you a special reward in Heaven. That previous commet is irrevelant, but possibly true.
Rating: Summary: Hello is anyone in there?? Review: What is this? How dare the publisher even publish this. This is not a sequel to a beloved novel. The author must not have read the book because she is not true to the style of Jane Austen at all.Since when did Lady Cathrine play the piano? This is quite a mystery to me. Oh and when did Bingly have a mistress. That is not his character in the least. What makes it worse though is that he had a son on top of all that nonsense. Ya right since when. This book makes me so mad I could scream. Also Georgiana Darcy is a little brat she totaly wants to do everything she can do hurt Elizabeth.Jane Austen is ranting and raving right now at the stupidity of this book. Please for the love of God don't read this book.
Rating: Summary: Insufferable! Review: When I found this book in my local library, I was thrilled to be able to read more about Darcy and Elizabeth. At least, I was thrilled until I read the first 50 pages. Then I was alternately disgusted, appalled, and horrified that anyone could write such trash and acually publish it as a sequel to a Jane Austen novel. It has more to do with Regency Romance than Regency England. The characters bear absolutely no resemblance to the ones we know and love. The plot is sketchy at best, and in several places has to be forcibly pulled together with no attempt at smoothing out the rough edges. Only the title gives it any relationship with Jane Austen's incomparable original.
Rating: Summary: health warning: for your own sanity DO NOT READ Review: Yep I was very bored when I picked this off the library shelf. Instead of watching tennis I thought Id read this instead. What a mistake. The author has written this with the best of intentions but the style does not resemble Austen's, more that of Jilly Cooper or Jackie Collins. While these are competent writers in ther own right, they cannot be compared to Austen. The storyline is incredulous and the ending hard to believe. Lizzy seems to have lost her wit and become plain rude (monstrosities at Pemberley),even Mrs. Bennett would have known not to mention a douche in a public gathering and the ending...well!! I dont recommend any lovers of the original to read this book, I would say use your imagination. You don't need to be told that "Mr Darcy and Elizabeth kissed and cuddled" or words to that effect, do you? Read if you dare.
