Rating: Summary: Exotic adventures of four magical cats and their efforts to Review: This was a fascinating story of magic and wizardry that charmed me from start to finish. The things I liked most of all were the interactions between the cats and their humans ( I was especially amused by the Three Tenors rehearsals--though I was a little surprised that the anti-wizard dinosaur was allowed to eat Pavarotti) and was quite glad that it didn't disintegrate into a reworking of "Jurassic Park", though for a few pages it looked as if it was going to do just that. I think that Ith, the Saurian wizard might have crossed into the cats' universe as a bird at the end of the story, just as they crossed over into his universe as sabre-toothed panthers. A minor quibble, but it would have been interesting. I was almost as upset as Rhiouw when her human was killed--I hope something is done to help that situation in the sequel. Quibbles aside, I found it a fun read that was different and engaging. I was also wondering if parts of it weren't just a little bit influenced by the opera, CATS. Mestofeles, the Magical Conjuring cat, was most certainly one of the wizards! Congratulations on a nifty book.
Rating: Summary: Completely Phenominal Review: This book is Great. That is all I can say. It is a book of cat Wizards who can use spells to walk on air, battle ancient creatures, and teach other wizards. There are 4 wizards mentioned in the first half of the book. Urrah, Saash, Arhu, and Rhiow. The can fix gates in Grand cantral by weaving the strings of energy back together. They can go through gates and be transported to other worlds and times. Their leaders are the 'Powers that be' and Queen Iau. This is a really great book. I can't wait to read the rest. (that was only half).
Rating: Summary: A Really Good Book Review: I Really Liked This Book becuase for all the cat lovers and magic lovers can finally combine together into one great book.
Rating: Summary: A great read. Review: After reading "Tailchaser's Song" and "The Wild Road", I was thirsty for more cat-related fatasy fiction novels and this one quenched my thist. Although it was a bit confusing at times, I do admire the author's intricate explanations of events throughout the book. The characters were loveable and memorable (but then again, aren't they all if they are animals?) and made me laugh and cry from beginning to end. I am anxiously awaiting "To Visit The Queen", and would love to hear about other fantasy based books which are animal related.
Rating: Summary: Another venture into the land of Wizardry Review: I liked this book due to the journey once again into the "Young Wizards" world of Diane Duane. The characters were well-developed and I really loved a lot of the ways that Diane Duane put things. There was one part where I actually had to put the book down because I had become incredibly emotional. (I forget where it was now) I thought the inclusion of Nita, Kit, Dairine, Tom, and Carl to be amusing, but not necessary to the plot, nor the continuity of the series. This is the true successor to High Wizardry, as A Wizard Abroad bored me quite dreadfully.
Rating: Summary: An excellent fantasy epic, with wonderful characters Review: Owned by 6 cats, I could not help but love this "can't put the book down" read. The title confused me, until the library scene, where the book turned up. Great title for an ancient feline Book of Magic. Rhiaow and her friends captured my heart and I laughed and cried with their successes and tragedies. This rankls right up there with the classic "Tailchaser's Song" and the newer "Wild Road" I applaud Warner-Aspect for printing this tale and hope others will follow. To Diane Duane, thank you for such an intriquing story and I hope more are forthcoming.
Rating: Summary: the book of night with moon: Review: The Book of Night with Moon is the repository of all wizardry in Diane Duane's Young Wizards' universe. This book is set in the same universe, but is curiously adult... a set of cats guided by the Powers that Be use their wizardry and sacrifice their lives in order to save the worlds from destruction. An epic novel, sweeping over history, language, religion, and modern-day New York (as well as Grand Central Station! now isn't that BIG?), this novel is sure to delight you and puzzle you. Plus the QUOTES, the QUOTES: "'This is going to become a New York... where Luciano Pavarotti has been eaten by a dinosaur!' 'We can't have *that*,' Saash said, under her breath.'"
Rating: Summary: A Most Enjoyable Piece Of Literature Review: I bought and read this book in spite of the only review I read depicting it in a negative light. And I enjoyed it thorouly, which leads me to wonder if the reviewer actually read the book. Ms. Duane creates characters who are not only believable, but immensely likable as well. Even those who appear for no more than a few moments leave an impression of realism. Her imagery was well-crafted, and the linguistics well planned. "The Book Of Night With Moon" was one of the few books I have read which I set aside with difficulty, and only when absolutely necessary.
Rating: Summary: I WISH THE TITLE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE STORY Review: All through the book (first time) I was waiting for the BOOK to show up.. but it seems marketing overcame honesty on this one. Still, the underlying message that evil wants everyone controlled, (limited choices,) so our heroes fight for everyone's freedom, (but not as an abstract goal..) Who else would put forth cheese as a reason to save the universe? I was slightly disappointed that a cat would pretend not to understand human speech (is this lying?) but really enjoyed the CATalog of the New York Public library. Of course! It was almost as fun as pronouncing the words in the glossary.
Rating: Summary: An excellent book! Review: This is a great book, and I loved it! I found myself thinking about it afterwards, and even had a dream involving it. I can't wait to see if there will be more!
