Rating: Summary: Great book Review: This is a really great book about a girl trying to find herself. Her mother was hit by an ambulance while she was pregnant, and she was dead when the doctors cut the baby, living, out of her mother's stomach. Her grandmother, Gigi, named her Miracle. When Miracle's father, Dane, a prodigy author, disappears, Gigi claims that he melted, and they go to live with Gigi's ex husband, Grandaddy Opal. Miracle gets more and more swept up into Gigi's world, where colors and numbers all have a meaning and nothing seems real. Miracle isn't sure that she herself is even real, and she goes to extremes, testing herself to see if she is real. This book is really sad, but it has a happy ending. It's a really great book about a girl who is learning to accept herself. I really reccomend this book.
Rating: Summary: Cool Book Review: This is a really great book! I borrowed it from my friend and read it pretty much in one sitting and I couldn't put it down. I never really knew what was going to happen next and it was very thought provoking. It's a story that's somewhat out of the ordinary and it's very different from any other book I've read. I really meccarend (recommend, inside joke) it.
Rating: Summary: This is one book that will wrap you up in it's story! Review: This is an intriguing story of a young girl's struggle to find out about her past, who she is, and about her family. It will envelope you in it's intensity. Definately a good book!
Rating: Summary: A good read Review: This is the story of a distraught little girl who's daddy "Melted". Her grandmother actually destroys her instead of making her a better person. the family is crazy. The main character is Miracle who tried to understand what happened to her father, but in this quest she starts to lose her sanity. She also loves to dance, to the point where she gets bruises and cuts... the characters are great, they are so real they jump out of the page and give ya a big wave. The reason i gave it four stars, is because it wasn't really at my reading level... A tad bit too childish for me but I still appreciated it.
Rating: Summary: Danielle Gjergji's Review for Dancing on the Edge Review: This story is about a girl named Miracle McCoy. She lives with her grandmother Gigi, who is a medium which means she can contact dead people. Miracle was born out of a dead persons body her mothers. Her grandmother always reminded her of how special and lucky she is to be alive right now. That is why her grandmother decided to name her Miracle. One night while everyone was at their house they had a séance. When they went to go and find Dane all they found was a pile of clothes on the floor and candles lit all around the sides. Gigi said he had "melted". Everyone in town was harassing and making fun of her, so her and Miracle move to Alabama where her ex husband was he agreed to let them stay with him as long as she didn't bother him with all her magic stuff. Miracle had never met her grandfather before. When they started to talk he found out that she loved to dance and that she was really good at it so he wanted to sign her up. He found a place in the church that gave out dancing lessons, they would have to keep it a secret from Gigi because she didn't want Miracle dancing. One day Miracle and her granddaddy had an argument about how it wasn't possible for anyone to come out of a dead persons body and how it wasn't possible for Dane to melt. All these things going on in Miracles head was scaring her . Not before long Gigi had found out that Miracle had been taking dancing lessons behind her back she got very mad at granddaddy and Miracle. She decided to send Miracle back to live with her uncle toole and her aunt Casey. With all that was floating through Miracles mind she decided that she would try and melt her self so she put on Danes rob that she always wore after he "melted" lit candles all around herself and got closer and closer the fire and heat. The next thing she knew she was in a hospital bed with second and third degree burns. So they said she would have to see a physiatrist named Dr Deangelis, she becomes very close with him and he helps her complete and understand the missing parts in her life. She found out that her mother didn't try and move out of the way of the ambulance she didn't want a child she got pregnant by accident and didn't know what to do. Her aunt Casey also went with her to these sessions. One day Gigi came to visit her she told her to get into her van because they were going for a ride. While they were driving Miracle asked if the thing about her mother was true how she walked in front of the ambulance and Gigi just turned up her music, so miracle yelled to Gigi saying she wanted to go back and Gigi said she wasn't ever taking her back they were going to Tennessee. Then Miracle asked about the thing with Dane melting Gigi kept on saying that he melted he melted he melted. So then Miracle yelled to Gigi I know the truth Dane ran away because you forced him to do things he didn't want to do that was the only reasonable explanation. Gigi told Miracle that she was going to drop her off at the bus stop and she could ride the bus back to the Cedars, and she did just that she dropped Miracle off and headed for Tennessee. When Miracle noticed that Gigi never gave her any money she got worried. Hoping someone would drop some money or anything. She walked up to the lady at the desk and ask her if she could use her phone so she could call her aunt Casey and she that that lady at the desk gave her directions to get to the bus stop and she came and picked up Miracle.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, and thrilling book! Review: This was an excellent book! I have now titled it my favorite, it's so good. I rented it from my school library, and finished it in a couple of weeks. I'm 14 years old, and this book is really good for those young adults. The characters are so real life, and so are the situations. It's about a young girl named Miracle who is confused and torn apart by her beliefs she was raised on, but has gut feelings that something is wrong, and must learn to find the truth to her past concerning her birth, and her mothers death. The character's reactions and feelings are so real with the actual thing, and the author brings you into the character's feelings. It has a lot to do with finding out who you are, which can get pretty tough in your adolescent years. I won't tell anything to ruin it for those who haven't read it. All I have to say is read it! Give it a try! What harm could it do? I guarantee you'll like it!
Rating: Summary: A childs survival from emotional neglect and deception Review: Through a fog of empathetic tears and sympathetic outrage I was compelled to read on and on. Han Nolan creates these painfully real characters through the eyes of a psychologically knotted child who, being manipulated by family deception and emotional neglact, falls into an abyss of guilt, grief and fear fueled depression. Miracle's nameworthy birth, as well as her mysterious mother and tormented prodigy father are taboo subjects with her family. Raised in her grandmother's occult world of superstition and surrounded by dysfunctional familial relationships, Miracle finally finds her first taste of nurturing from her estranged grandfather. Following a sequence of tragic events, Miracle is torn from her chance for self expression and escape (through dancing her grandfather encourages). Once again living without love and support she withdraws into "Nothing". In a confused attempt to go to where her father has disappeared, she once again resorts to self mutila! ! tion to feel something she can not understand. Nearly dying, Miracle is forced into psycho-therapy, She finally realizes her own story. The truth sets her free. This plausible weave of deception, psychic fanaticism and mental illness (at least mental dysfunction), is a frightening glimps into what we believe to be our own reality. The plot and conflict grab the readers attention while the journey forces us to read on through anger and fear upon seeing our own insecurities laid before us. There was delicate foreshadowing to make the climax of this story believable (mystery behind mother's death, too long father's robe, Miracle's belief in her grandmother's explaination of her father's disappearance). We say children are resilient; are they? An adult, like Miracle's Aunt Casey, have aquired armor. When dealt a blow they may be cut, but a child, who has not yet found the protective shields, endures slashes which run deep and have lingering scars. Nolan, gives these childr! ! en a compelling voice. He unveils Miracles scars and sheds! light on the many tiny lashes and the thrusting stabs she endures;survives. This is a wonderful tool to engage my student's in self reflection and encourage them to look within their own insecurities and explore private, even sublimated feelings and motivations for their own behavior.
