Summary: A great read You'll love it!
Review: Soldier boys is a really great book. It has made me think more about the war. IT probley was way harder then anyone could think of. I would have hated to be a soldier for hitler. It would be bad, how much they get punished. I would really hate to also be a american. American soldiers had to go though D-day. I was thinking of becomeing a soldier, but after reading Soldier boys, i don't know if i would like to became a soldier anymore. I would like to help the soldiers in the book that is how bad it was. The book was good, but it made me cry at the end. It is a sad, fighting, and adventures book.

Summary: Their First War
Review: A Review by Alex

The book I read is about two kids who are both about seventeen. One is from America and one is from Germany. Both are eager to get into the war and defend their country. They both come from small towns and have never even been anywhere near a war. Right as they join up they are sent into the hart Germany into what is going to be called The Battle of the Bulge. During this battle they learn that war is no place for innocence and sometimes you just have to give all of it and start shooting. Either had never killed before and now are wondering who should they kill next. When they return home they will be looked at by everyone differently they will develop respect for the opposite sides and learn that war is not a pretty thing.

One thing I like about this book is that it is told from the inside of the character and what they are felling. It feels like you are right along there with them during a battle. For instance the author keeps switching back and forth between the two kids on there way to their first fight. One other thing that I liked about this book was that it was easy to read. It really helped the reader focus on the main part of the story while being able to go fast through the boring parts. A third thing I liked was that it seemed like it was written from person who had experienced war before. It just seem to catch the reader in the crossfire.

I would recommend this book to people who like war stories and political things. If you don't mind the thought of murder and blood shed this book is for you. If you are anti war I would stay away from this book.

Summary: Great Read
Review: A Review by Matt

A soldier boys is a well written book about two young men in WWII Dietrich Hedrich and Spencer Morgan. Dieter is a young German boy who wanted to fight because over the years has been warped into believing that Hitler was only trying to save the fatherland from the "evil" Americans and the polish swine. Spencer's brother was in the navy and was at war with the "Japs" and Spence wanted to be a paratrooper because they where the toughest most battle hardened men... Both get their wish

I really liked the realism of this book, the way it was written makes you feel as thought you where with them every step of the way. It also shows how unaware many Germans where about why they where fighting and how Hitler was controlling their minds.
It also illustrates the evils and gruesome truths of war.

I recommend that anyone who loves WWII or just the books should read this, alternatively if you know little about WWII then it will easily confuse you.

Summary: A great read
Review: As a lover of WWII history I was first surprised to discover that Soldier Boys was a YA novel--the writing was as well done as any novel I have read. I found my self drawn to both boy-soldiers on either side of the war. I even found myself in tears at the end of the book. I'm highly recommending it to my friends, and pre-teen kids!

Summary: Soldier Boys
Review: Decent book- needs more elaboration on philosophy. Good plot, theme, just not enough elaboration so tone and mood are, to put it ironically, moody. The good part are it is easy to understand without fully understanding WWII. ie- try reading the second half only. still not to hard to understand is it.

Summary: Soldier Boys
Review: Have you ever wanted something really badly? Have you ever thought that something would be fun and exciting, but when you finally got to do it, it was the exact opposite of what you thought it was going to be like? Well that is how Spence felt in Soldier Boys. Spence really wanted to go fight in World War II over in Germany, thinking that it would be fun, but his parents wouldn't sign his papers allowing him to go into the military, and finally at age 17 he dropped out of high school without his parent's knowledge. After a lot of begging he got his wish, just to find out that the army was just a torture session. Soldier Boys is about two boys, Spence and Dieter, from two different countries. Spence is from the U.S and Dieter is from Germany but share the same goal, to fight for their country in World War II. In the book Spence and Dieter end up meeting each other on the battlefield in the strangest of situations.
I thought Soldier Boys was an awesome book. I liked how Dean Hughes went from Dieter's life to Spence's life throughout the chapters. I also liked how Hughes used so much detail. He used so much detail in every chapter. In one chapter Spence was going into a German house, and all of the people he was with got shot, Hughes described the scene so well I felt like I was watching a video. I also liked how there was never a "dull" or "boring" part; it was always exciting to read. Hughes made every part exciting. Even during Spence's training camp it was exciting.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, especially if you like lots of action. It was very hard to put Soldier Boys down. I often found myself saying "just one more chapter, then I'm done," but I just couldn't put it down.

Summary: Great WWII Book!
Review: I have read many world war two books yet this one is very interesting because it shows both views of the war. Hitler was a horrible man yet somehow he brainwashed most of the German population. Because of this, people sometimes think that the entire German population is evil. You will relize this is not necessarily the case after reading this book. This book does not show any bigotry from the author; it tells what really happened. Great Book, I recommend it for ages 11 and up. Both boys and girls should read this book. PS: The middle of this book gets a little boring; just don't stop reading!

Summary: Soldier Boys
Review: I recently read this book and I loved it! It is a wonderful story about two teenage boys (an American and a German) joining the army in World War Two. The story is very moving yet action packed. Although the battles can be too gory for some people's tastes, it describes the characters thoughts and pains very well. This book truly covers all the ranges of emotions a real soldier might feel. I really got into the characters and was moved by the ending. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody that enjoys World War Two books.

Summary: Average book
Review: I think "Soldier Boys," by Dean Hughes, went from excellent, to good, to average. I think the book had a beginning, middle, but not a great ending. The story tells the tale of two young soldiers, one from Nazi Gremany, and the other a high school drop out from America. It tells a story about War World 2, and it shows the opinion of the war in two different perspectives. At the end of the story one of the soldiers make the ultimate sacrifice-in a very brave way-in a book that ends rather quickly. But, it will keep you wanting to read more and it is a very educational novel.

Summary: New Friends
Review: I think that Soldier Boys by Dean Hughes was a great book. Any one who likes action and war will love this book. At first the book was really boring but when I got to the battle chapters I couldn't put the book down it was so good.
The story is about two soldiers in World War 2 one is a german Nazi, the athor is an American High School drop out. The two boys learn to make new friends and adapt to their new environment. I do not like the ending because one of the boys dies, but I guess that happens in books somtimes. I was really bummed out
