Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: This book was a heartbreaker I couldn't put down. So mysterious. I laughed and I cried! This was a wonderful book!
Rating: Summary: I thought that this book was a good book, but confusing. Review: This book was about a 14 year old boy who hasn't ever seen his dad. His dad (Crab) has been in jail for 9 years and is very ill. He escaped from jail so he could go and see his boy Jimmy and so Jimmy would love and respect him. Jimmy has been living with his aunt.
Rating: Summary: Some Where In The Darkness Review: This book was about a boy named Jimmy who had to go out of town with his father, who broke out of jail. Jimmy's father named Crab didn't tell Jimmy that he broke out of jail, so he drove to many different states as well as Arkansas. Jimmy fell asleep while Crab was driving and woke up in the dark. He woke up and asked " why are we going to so many states", and " where are we now". Crab said we are doing this because; the police are looking for me. While they were talking the police ran over Crab with the police car and Crab died. I think the title fits in with the story, because that was the last time Jimmy and Crab spent together talking in the darkness. I would recmmend this book to anybody because; I like the plot of this book. This book ends with the readers wondering what happened to Jimmy.
Rating: Summary: This book was alright. Review: This book was alright. It could of been better if it did not skip around so much. The story line was ok. It could of been a bit more exciting. The book should of described the setting more.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book!!! Review: This story about Jimmy and his father who escaped from prison is great. It proves that even though you haven't seen someone for years, you can still be friends with that person.
Rating: Summary: It wasn't very interesting to me. Review: This story is about a fifteen year old boy who lives with Mama Jean. His mother is dead and his father had been in jail for the past nine years. One day his father, Crab, escaped from jail and came to get Jimmy. He didn't tell Mama Jean that he escaped. But he took Jimmy to Chicago in hopes to prove his innocence to his son. The cops were chasing Crab and caught him in the hospital. Crab had serious kidney problems and had to stay hospitalized, but at least his son knew he didn't murder anyone.
Rating: Summary: Great Book!!! Review: This was a really good book. I never wanted to put it down. I'm reading this book for a class. Walter Dean Myers is a really good writer. This book is kinda sad it's never that funny. Jimmy who's mother is dead and his father isn't around. Jimmy lives with Mama Jean. Later his father comes back from prison and wants to take Jimmy with him on a "trip". I dont want to spoil it for you but if your thinking about reading this book you need too.
Rating: Summary: portraied as action Review: Walter Dean Myers is a very good Writer, I like how in all his books he writes, and shows emotion through the actions of the characters. I have also read and enjoyed Monster, also written by Walter Dean Myers. In both books, you get to know the characters by what they do, instead of reading a long boring biography about each character in the beginning of the book. I really like they style that Walter writes in. Especially how he includes all the characters throughout the book, instead of having them die out of the story in the beginning or middle. I would recommend this book or any book by Walter Dean Myers to anyone that likes to read. Somewhere in the Darkness, is about a 14 Year old boy whos dad is distant from him, and when he begins a relationship with him, his dad dies of kidney failure. this is a good example of "You don't know what you have until it is gone."
Rating: Summary: Somewhere in theDarkness Review: Walter Dean Myers writes in serious tone but gives you a realistic spark of hope. This book is somewhat depressing. This book was sometimes confusing for me because you think something good is going to happen but never does This book is about a boy named Jimmy Little, a normal 14-year-old boy. Jimmy hadbeen reaised by his beloved, dependable "Mama Jean.'' Mama Jean was a good friend of the parent that Jimmy doesn't even remeber. His mother is dead and his dad, ''Crab,'' is in prison. His father is in prison for killing a man in an armed robbery. Suddenly Crab shows up, claiming that he is on parole and has a job in Chicago. Jimmy agrees to go with him, but Crab's lies begin to fall apart even before they leave New York. He has kidney failure, and has escaped from a prison hospital. The two go to Arkansas, where Crab hopes his his old friend , Rydell, will assure his innocense. Crab was convicted convicted of murder as the result of another friend's pleabargaining. Rydell, who onced betrayed Crab with his silence, betrays him again by calling the police, Crab surrenders, then dies soon after in the hospital. The thing that I did like about the story was how Mama Jean raised Jimmy and gave him food on the table, clothes on his back, and a roof over his head. I thought that was very thoughtful of her.The thing that i din't like about the story was that Crab tried to build a relationship at the last minute and expected Jimmy to go right along with it.
Rating: Summary: Great book about a young boy's dreams & hopes. Review: What happens when you find out that life isn't going to turn out like you always thought it should? In Somewhere in the Darkness, Myers tells the story of Jimmy Little, a young boy who has to deal with the fact that his dreams of having a perfect family have been deferred. By the book's end Jimmy comes to his own conclusions of how to face this difficulty. The characterization and overall tone reminded me of Cormac McCarthy's play, The Stonemason, which also deals with the relationships between black fathers and sons. When I finished Somewhere in the Darkness I felt like Myers had given me a valuable insight into dealing with life's messiness. I loved reading this book. It got inside of me-reaching my mind and my heart. I'm a college student in the midst of a young adult literature course. We're reading about two books a week. This has been my favorite so far.
