Rating: Summary: Fails on every level! Review: The blind leading the blind would be a good way to summarize this by Walter Dean Myers. The blind leading the reader would be even better, for Somewhere in the Darkness seems boring and pointless. The whole book is about a endless trip. When the book finally ends it raps up too rapidly. The book begins with a young man named Jimmy Little who is an intelligent boy trying to survive a rough neighborhood. Mama Jean , his father's mother, is his sole provider. Suddenly, and rather quickly, Jimmy's father (Crab) who escaped from prison appears in the story. They embark on a trip, which is very uninteresting. There were enjoyable points in the book. The character of Mama Jean was well done. Jimmy was an OK character if not a bit ignorant. This book fails on every level. I have read many books good and bad, if you read good literature you will understand my views.
Rating: Summary: Umair's Online Review... Review: The book Somewhere in the Darkness, by Walter Dean Myers, was truly an interesting piece, far from anything I have read before. A holder of the Newberry Honor Award, a prestigious award, writing this book was a creative task, one that he has fulfilled. Mr. Dean truly does continue showing the world his gift. In my opinions I would rater this book a 5 from a scale from one-five, five being the best. I really liked that it was about a father, son relationship, something that I can relate to. The author used a lot of great diction, which created the base of a great vision. The chronological order, and the way events happened in the book, created and set a great suspense. As it did in this on part of the book "who you?' 'I am your father'" (19) if you read the book, and understand it, and even try to relate to it in some way, you can feel the emotion that Jimmy, might have been feeling, and see the shock in his eyes, perhaps. You can just picture, what's going on, and feel what it would be like to be in his place, a chill might run all over your body. If you like books that deal with real life relationships, or problems, or if you have read the Scorpion, you will like this book too. - Umair

Rating: Summary: somewhere in the darkness Review: This book is about Jimmy, a teenager lives in the city with his mother's best friend, Mama Jean, because his mother is dead and his father is in jail for killing someone (however, he is falsely accused). One day Jimmy gets home from school early and he sees a man is waiting at the bottom of the stairs. He says his name is Crab, Jimmy's father. Crab is there to take Jimmy with him. After Jimmy and Crab left, they travel cross-country to try to find the one man who can prove that Crab is innocent. Finally they find that man but the man comes back the next day with the police. The policeman takes Crab to the hospital and in the end Crab dies, chained to the bed in his hospital room. I think that the message in this book is to learn to accept and learn to love. Jimmy has to accept that his father does not abandon him. I think in the end Jimmy loves his father and is really sad when his father dies. I think this story is funny but also serious. Moreover, the character development makes it seem as if readers are actually there with Jimmy. Crab's character, especially becomes clearer as the story progresses. And I would like to recommend this book because it was interesting. Some parts of the story kept me interested to keep reading.
Rating: Summary: Great in Every Way Review: This book is one that I recommend above all, in fact this is the only book I have taken time to write a review about. One this book is very compelling, it kept me interested at all times. The way Jimmy and his father ran but becoming closer along the way was incredible. The book had a lot of humor, but also a lot of meaning. The ending is incredible because of the fact of the emotion you get from it, from everything leading up to it. I can't relate to this book, because nothing like this has ever happened to me. I did though put myself in Jimmy's shoes, and in doing so got real meaning from the book. It kept my interest and it will yours too
