Rating: Summary: it was confusing and it just didn't interest me Review: It was about jimmy, who lived with his aunt because his dad was in jail. Then his dad came and took him to chicago and then to arkansas to try to prove to his son that he didn't kill the guards that he was charged of killing.
Rating: Summary: Because it was boring I guess Review: It was about some Jimmy's dad and he escaped from jail and he went into Jimmy's house and then they went to where ever they were going.
Rating: Summary: Somewhere in the darkness Review: Sitting in a car at night, looking around and wondering where you are, and being scared. I do not think that is the way peope like to live, being scared all the time. Not knowing where you are not even knowing where you will end up. I think that the book SOMEWHERE IN THE DARKNESS could have been better and could have added a little more excitment to it. In New York City, there is a boy named Jimmy who lives with a lady named Mama Jean. This boy has no idea who his dad is, and doesn't know when or if he will ever see him. One day, coming home, JImmy sees a tall dark man standing on the stair way. Jimmy is scared; the man askes if he is Jimmy, then tells him that he is his father. When Mama Jean comes home she sees Crab, who is Jimmys father, standing there. She is so happy to see him again. Crab askes Jimmy to go with him to Chicago for a while, and Jimmy says yes. They take a car the whole way to Chicago. When they are there, the polive come to get Crab. At the end of the book, Crab ends up in a hostpital and dies. Jimmy goes back to New York to live with Mama Jean again. The book mainly takes place in the car on the way to Chicago. Sometimes Jimmy and Crab get out of the car, but basically the ame things happen while they are in the car, like when he wakes up and doesn't see Crab in the car, then he sees him walking out from a gas station; that happend again later on in the book. Sometimes they get out and go see peole but if they did it was a really short period of time. Nothing exiting happens in the book, except for the very beginning and at the very end of the book. At the beginning when Jimmy first sees his father, that was really exciteing because it is the first time in his life that he has ever seen is dad, and now he jusy shows up and decides to take Jimmy to Chicago with him. To me, that would be a very tough decision to make. Then at the very end when Crab is being chased by the police. You don't know if he was going to die then or later on.
Rating: Summary: Somewhere in the Darkness Book Review Review: Sometimes people want to see what it feels like to be the exact opposite of themselves. That is how I came to read Somewhere in the Darkness. Everything in the book--where it took place, the charcacters and events that were happening-- seemed to not relate to me at all, but in my opinion, it is sometimes good to 'walk in someone else's shoes', regardless if the book is fiction or not. Jimmy is a 15 year old boy who lives in the Bronx with his 'Mama Jean'. His father is put in jail for murdering someone, and his mother is dead. Everything is going fine untill one day his long lost father, Crab shows up and wants to take Jimmy. For a while, Jimmy didn't know what to think of Crab, but sooner or later he finds out that he is a lier. With his father having severe kidney problems and a bad reputation-- somehow Jimmy comes to like Crab. Then Jimmy realizes how he is the only person that Crab has left, and how important it is for him to believe Crab how he never would murder anyone. Then the book goes on and eventually Crab dies from a police chase and Jimmy goes back to Mama Jean. I think this book is pretty stressful because Jimmy's dad dies without proving to Jimmy that he isn't a killer. It is very creative how Walter Dean Myers leaves the book open for you to decide of Jimmy believes that Crab is a killer or not. I also think it is clever of Myers to slowly bring in how much Crab's purpose means to him. For a while, I was guessing why Crab wanted to take Jimmy away so urgently. Near the end, I realized that Jimmy was the only person Crab had left; so it means a lot for his only son to have trust and faith in him. In some ways I think this book is excellent, and in others, not so good. Some people actually have lives like Jimmy, and I think it is very important for people to realize that. In general, I thought it was a good book with lots of details that give me a differnt perspective of life.
Rating: Summary: Somewhere in the Darkness Book Review Review: Somewhere in the Darkness is a different kind of adventure book. I expected the book to be about the main character, Jimmy, and the other main character, Crab, traveling cross country for some reason. As I started to read the book, I found out that it was a lot more than that. Jimmy Little is a fifteen year old dropout, living with somone he calls Mama Jean. He is living with her because his mother is dead and his father is in jail for a crime he did not commit. One day Jimmy decides to go to school. He walks there but only stays for half of the day. When Jimmy arrived at home a man was wating at the bottom the stairs. He says his name is Crab, his father. Crab was there to take Jimmy with him. when Mama Jean got home, they said there good-byes, and Jimmy and Crab left. Jimmy soon finds out that Crab had escaped from jail and was on the run from the cops. They travel cross country to try to find the man with Crab allegedly robbed a bank. Crab knows that the other man can tell the police that he did not do what the police think he did. They find him, but the man comes back the next day with the police. The policeman takes Crab to the hospital because he is coughing uncontrollably. Later that day Crab dies. I thought that somewhere was a great book and really fun to read. Insted of Walter Dean Myers just telling the reader what occured, he basically expressed his thinkig about what happpened. His attension to detail is amazing. it also seemed as if Walter Dean Myers wanted you to understand the book, not just read it. Somewhere in the Darkness is a good book, but it could have been better. At the end of the book Crab dies. He dies in a hospital room with his leg cuffen to the bed post. The author could have made this part much better. He could have it more dramatic; insted of Crab dying in the hospital room, he could have died in the police car ont he way to the hospital. If that had happened, there could have been a lot more more dialogue, like Jimmy yelling at the policeman to hurry and get to the hospital. If that happened, the book might have been a bit more intense and had a better endine to the story. All in all, though, Somewhere in the Darkness is a good book.
Rating: Summary: Somewhere in the Darkness Review: Somewhere in the darkness is a great book. I had picked it up to read as a class assignment thinking it was going to be a boring story, because I hadn't seen the title or the back cover of the book telling me what it was about. But when I started reading it, I found that it wasn't such a bad book, and that it was a wonderfully written with a great theme and a great plot. I could relate to this book in many ways and I know people that could also relate to this book. It was a book that was easy to understand, and easy to picture mentally, and I'm glad I chose this book to read. I would recomend it book to anyone that wants a book with a main character they can relate to emotionally.

Rating: Summary: Somewhere In The Darkness Review: Somewhere In The Darkness Walter Dean Myers This book is about a boy named Jimmy Little. His mom died and his father was in jail so he lived with his mom's friend. Jimmy called her Mama Jean. One day Jimmy's father comes to their house looking for Jimmy. Jimmy's father's name was Crab. Crab was telling Jimmy and Mama Jean how he got out of jail and got a job in Chicago. He also said that he wanted to take Jimmy with him. Mama Jean and Jimmy were very upset about this, Jimmy didn't want to go and Mama Jean didn't want him to go either. Mama Jean decided it was best for Jimmy if he went with Crab so he could spend time with him. They went on a long car ride from New York to Chicago, but Jimmy soon found out that they were not going to Chicago. It turned out that Crab escaped from jail when he was sick in the hospital with a kidney disease and that they were really going to Arkansas to straighten something out. Crab was in jail because he was accused of murder, he did not kill any body it was his friend Rydell. The police went to Rydell's house to arrest him but Rydell told the police that it was Crab. The police believed Rydell because he was white and Crab was black. When they got to Arkansas Jimmy got really close to Crab and they were both having a good time. They went to Rydell's house so that he could tell the police that Crab was innocent but he refused. Crab was really upset that he got him in trouble and left. That night Crab died from his kidney disease. Jimmy was very upset and he went to live with Mama Jean again. I really enjoyed this book a lot. It was one of those books that you thought something was going to happen and something else did. This book kept you aware of what was going on and you were looking forward to see what would happen next. In the first chapter I thought that this book was really boring and I would not get into it. By the third chapter I did not want to stop reading it. The author in this book is very descriptive and it made me feel like I was right there watching what was going on. My favorite part of the book was when Crab decided to take Jimmy to Chicago with him. This was my favorite part because the author described how Jimmy and Mama Jean were feeling so well that I almost cried too. The only part of this book that I did not like was that it took too long for the book to get exciting. If you like books from the early 1900's then I would recommend this book to you. This book was when there was discrimination and segregation of whites and blacks. I would also recommend this book to someone who enjoys social studies. In this book you learn a lot about what happened in the past and the geography of different states. I would not recommend this book for younger kids because it would be harder for them to understand it as clearly as some one older would.
