Summary: A Sweet and Spiritual "Walk"
Review: This was a pleasant book to read, though the entire story was quite predictable. From the moment the Landon begins describing Jamie....well, most readers will know that this "bad boy" will soon lose his heart to the "good girl." I don't want to say anything about the ending, so as not to spoil it, but most readers will see it coming. This novel lacks any tension or mystery. We know what will happen -- the pleasure lies in watching it unfold.

The story is spiritual with a Christian message. This is the first Nicholas Sparks book that I've read, so I don't know if all his novels are oriented towards religion. I was expecting a love story, but the emphasis on church and religion surprised me. I think the book will probably be most meaningful to Christians. As a Jewish person, I found it somewhat unreal. The "bad" characters were revealed to be quite harmless and good at heart. The "good" characters were beyond human good - Jamie is described as angelic, and so she is.

It is a sweet book, though. And I read it quickly, in one day. It is not at all suggestive or sexual, and is appropriate reading for all ages.

Summary: The meaning of lasting love -- for teens
Review: This is pure schmaltz, a genuine tear-jerker written for impressionable young teenagers to outline a more serious approach to love than the usual "let's hit the sack and have some fun" approach.

The story isn't nearly as good as "Love Story" by Eric Segal, but that's a minor quibble. Segal dealt with college students; Sparks has written a book that relates to high school and junior high students who have not yet begun to date seriously. The theme of the book is very simple: true love is based on the content of a person's character, not on chest size or the willingness to engage in sex play.

It's a favorite theme of Sparks, the idea of an enduring love that overcomes and outlasts all obstacles and setbacks. He used it well in "Message in a Bottle," dealing with two middle-aged adults who are old enough to have sex. In this book, it's two kids who barely hold hands and share only a few chaste kisses, which makes it clearly designed and suitable for the teen and pre-teen audience. Any normal teen will appreciate it; and parents can feel safe the book is as tame as a Donald Duck cartoon..

One brief excerpt, near the end, nicely sums up the whole approach: "We kissed again, too, though not every time we were together, and I didn't even think of trying to make it to second base. There wasn't any need to. There was something nice when I kissed her, something gentle and right, and that was enough for me. The more I did it, the more I realized that Jamie had been misunderstood her entire life, not only by me, but by everyone."

Think of the movie "Titanic" without any hint of sex or nudity, and you have this book in a nutshell. "Titanic" made millions of innocent young girls weep copious tears for a love that was snuffed out by the disaster to the ship; "A Walk to Remember" will appeal to the same girls who want such a love to come into their lives.

If you're a parent of a teen child, buy this book. Read it yourself, it deals with a fate and feelings that many adults carry through their entire lives. It is a warm reminiscence of a long lost love that might have been, and it tugs on those adult heartstrings.

Then let your kids have it, it relates to them on their level and it is one of the best introductions you'll find to the meaning of love in contrast to the shallow sensual emphasis that dominates so much of today's movies and novels. Kids who read it will grow into mature sensitive adults with an ability to understand that true love involves more than chest sizes and hot pants; it will help them become true adults instead of perpetual teenagers.

Summary: A beautiful story that truly makes you smile and cry
Review: A Walk to Remember, was the first book I've ever read by Nicholas Sparks and he has immediately become my favourite author. The plot of his book was simple and predictable, yet it was the way he wrote it that truly captivated me, full of feeling and passion. It made me smile when Landon and Jamie's love blossomed and cry when I found out how their love was doomed and how they were never going to be with each other. And the ending of the book was just so powerful that i couldn't stop talking about the book for months and even now i remember it, for A Walk to remember is truly a memorable book that is absolutely worth reading and crying over.

Summary: A Story to Tug on Your Heartstring
Review: This book was recomended to me by a close friend (who was still crying when she gave it to me by the way). "It's just the best book ever!" she said with tears running down her cheeks. I asked her what it was about. When she told me it was about a popular teenage boy falling in love with a nerdy girl, I thought to myself, "Oh great, this sounds like another one of those badly written teenage romance novels!" Still, I decided to read it. I took it home and that night. By the end of the first chapter, I was hooked. It is totally different from any book I have ever read! It is from the perspective of a 17 year old boy named Landon who must have had a GREAT sense of humor, because within that first chapter, I found myself laughing out lound by the little interesting thoughts of his added into the story (who would have guessed by the end I would be crying my brains out!) Landon finds himself falling for Jamie, the overly-perfect(not to mention over-religous, nice, and cheerful) minister's daughter. Landon finds himself as he falls into a deeper love than some people will ever know. By the way, the endng is REALLY good and gets you thinking. This novels pulls on your every emotion. I laughed, I cried! Sparks has outdine himself again!

Summary: Another wonderful story by Nicholas Sparks
Review: A WALK TO REMEMBER is the telling of a story of first love. Landon Carter reminisces back to 1958, when he was 17 years old and getting ready for college. His best friend is on the football team and he seems to spend a lot of time hanging out with his buddies.

Jamie is the daughter of the local minister, and spends all her time reading her bible. She is the butt of all the kids' jokes, because she sticks out like a sore thumb. Being a goody goody doesnt make one popular in highschool, and even Landon pokes fun at her behind her back.

Then, he finds himself roped in to be part of the christmas play with Jamie. Jamie's minister father had written this play years ago, based on the story of his wife (who died during childbirth) and therefore the fact that Jamie plays the lead role has important meaning to everyone.

the play transforms Jamie and Landon's relationship, and he finds himself falling in love with her. He is embarrased at first, but as he gets to know Jamie, he finds that he realy loves her.

Things turn for the worse, and as always it's a tearjerker in this Nicholas Sparks novel. I dont want to give anything away, but i think this book is one of those that you can't put down, especialy if you love romances.

Summary: A BOOK I WILL NEVER FORGET
Review: This is the first Sparks' book that I've ever read. I read the book twice in one week. I absolutely loved it, from prologue to the end. Sparks has successfully created characters that we can relate to. The story is very moving. There are pages that made me smile and laugh and pages that made me wanted to cry. I highly recommand this book to everyone whether you are a romantic or not. Can't wait till the movie comes out in early next year or later this year.

Summary: A Book You'll Always Remember
Review: What a journey in an era when "women wore dresses and men wore donned hats", when the Vanderbilts and Whitneys still ruled America, when the murder of the Lindbergh baby is still a byword ... so much for that! The story of Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, the story of a naughty rascal and a goody-goody soon-to-be-spinster is not an unusual one but very much common. Opposites are usually the best combination, even for a short time. Being in love with a woman you've always despised and the one you least expected to be intimate with? Why not. Not even his friends' non-stop teasing and a minister's daughter's worn-out fashion sense would stop Landon's pursuit of his long-sought-after-piece-of-the-puzzle whom he always wanted but never knew it until he took her to the prom, joined Hegbert's "soon-to-be-junked" drama, and walked with her every night to her home. It all changed everything, from Hegbert's stubbornness to Jamie's tight-bunned bonnie hair. Magic can happen, if only you believe it. A must-read for all who love fairy tales out there and a recommendation from somebody who hate goddam' love stories. Mr. Sparks created a masterpiece. Always have your kleenex when you start reading it, you can't avoid having one or two drops in the least.

Summary: a love to remember....
Review: A Walk To Remember was the first book I read by Nicholas Sparks. I am a very avid reader and I will say this is one of the best books I've read! It's almost as if he lived that story, that's how real it was. His writing touched me like no other before. I read the whole book in one night. And in that one night I laughed, frowned, cried, and smiled. It makes you remember the emotions you felt when you found your first love. And, for a moment, lets those more cynical believe once agian in true everlasting love....And MIRACLES.......

Summary: Wonderful Book
Review: I found that it was very hard to put this book down. It's probably the best book that I've read. A Walk To Remember is a definite reach-for-the-kleenex-box book. I should say that I don't think it deserves five stars but 4 and a half. The only thing that brings it down is that it seems a bit unrealistic at times. Especially through the middle of the book when one of the main characters "Landon" suddenly falls in love with "Jamie" the other main character. I just couldn't give it four stars.

I reccommend that you buy this book because it's a story that isn't like the others that are out there. Look for the movie of a "Walk to Remember" coming late 2001 or early 2002. It will star MANDY MOORE and SHANE WEST. This books brings you through so many emotions. It makes you laugh, smile, frown and more.
