Rating: Summary: Worth The Wait... Review: I am a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks and I have been waiting for this book for months. Once I read it I realized that his gift for storytelling has not been lost. Though there were parts in the beginning that made me think Landon was a selfish, self-absorbed unlikable creep, his relationship with Jamie and his complete growth as a person made the entire book worth those few pages. The prologue says Landon's is a story that will make you smile and make you cry and he's right...but you're still smiling when you put A Walk to Remember down. If you liked The Notebook, you'll love this one.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the last two... Review: Still worthy of sitting down and enjoying it in one, uninterrupted sitting, though. Unlike The Notebook or Message in a Bottle, the path is clear throughout the book. Not as long, not as well developed, but still an enjoyable escape.
Rating: Summary: Don't sit down without a big box o' tissues! Review: Nicolas Sparks has the artistry of using words to paint emotions on paper. While his books are short, they contain within them the power to make you experience emotions in tandem with his characters. This is his best of the three! Can't wait for the next.
Rating: Summary: A novel to "REMEMBER" Review: A WALK TO REMEMBER by author Nicholas Sparks stands alone when compared to the 2001 movie starring pop sensation Mandy Moore and ruggedly handsome Shane West, who grace this bestseller's cover.A WALK... takes place in 1958. Landon Carter is a typical teen - shallow like his friends, yet meaning well all the same. He seems to fear the impending responsibilities adulthood will give him - he's responsibility-phobic, you could say. This fear of responsibility is the main reason he ends up stuck where he doesn't want to be, the school play. There, he better gets to know Jamie Sullivan, the epitome of a perfect little goody-two shoes. Landon lives in a small, sleepy town where not much happens in terms of excitement and fun - crime rate is low. Still, all throughout the town, mostly everyone is church-going. And everyone knows that Jamie Sullivan is the minister's daughter. She fits her part of their religious two-member family - her mother died when she was young and her father has remained a single man ever since. Jamie totes a Bible wherever she goes, helps at the nearest orphanage, heals hurt animals, and takes care of her father. She lives a life none of her other classmates seem to live - or understand. Yet Jamie seems content and oblivious to their scorn, nonetheless. Jamie's lifestyle makes her totally different from Landon and his gang. Though he has only dated 2 girls, he does suspect he loved one of them. And never in a million years did he expect Jamie Sullivan to be his third girlfriend. Somehow, she's opening his eyes and his heart, helping him to see the world for what it is. Thanks to Jamie's guidance, Landon will not take the earth he walks on for granted anymore. This new awakening has spawned another. Landon finds he is in love with Jamie. Still, we wonder, will her deep and dark secret keep them from their true love, seemingly what fate wants for the two teenagers? Who knows? Read and see for yourself. Sparks' novel manages to find a comfortable balance within both sentimentality and humor without being mushy and overly sappy. His story of two teens in love who must face challenges in their relationship is sure to make you both laugh, cry, and question the strength required in relationships.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful Love Story Review: Ok, I won't say this book sucked, but it was a romance and romances are supposed to be sappy and stuff like that. I kinda liked this book actually, better than the notebook. The notebook kinda got on my nerves a little because Noah and Allie love each other and stuff like that, but...the man has a thing with diseases, people! I'm serious! In the notebook, she gets some sort of memory disease that mad eher forget he ever existed and in this book now, ( spoiler ) Jamie has cancer that cannot be helped and she dies in the end ( end spoiler ) and then in the notebook, they decided to go and do it for the whole day, making up " lost time. " I'm a Christian. Give me a break. It's all my mother's fault. Anyways, in this book, he only kisses her and holds her hand. I understand that one. Jamie is a little fragile throughout the whole book and I'm not saying that's wrong but...This book was a sad romance and I liked it. Better than the notebook once again.
Rating: Summary: A walk on the path we will all remember one day Review: Get a tissue... no a BOX of tissues handy with this one. "A walk to remember" is a stunningly beautiful tale of transformation. In just one day i consumed this truly stunning story. It was one of the most heartwarming experiences ive had with a book, it is a story that i shall always look to when I am feeling at my worst.
Landon Carter transports us back to the late 1950s when he was growing up in Beaufort, North Carolina. He is a selfish teenager, who is more concerned with good-looking girls to snatch up, than his College Application. When his senior year starts, Landon decides to join the Drama class - something easy to sleep through and a class full of girls sounds like the good life. But then a twist of fate lands Landon as the male lead in the annual schoolplay along side Jamie Sullivan - a devoted christian who spends her spare time looking after the unfortunate and reading her precious Bible. Such qualities makes Jamie the target of many cruel teenage jokes. But as Landon gets to know Jamie more, he discovers the pureness of her heart and most importantly, the beauty within and falls deeply in love. Then Jamie reveals a secret that will change both of their lives forever...
So as you can see by reading, the story isnt terribly original, but its whats at the essence, and the hidden message of this novel which seperates Nicholas Sparks' tale from all the rest. The innocence of young love and the final bridge from adolecence to adulthood is gripping and emotional. More importantly, teaches us that if you have true faith in something, it will guide you through. If you really listen for the signs the right thing will always come.
One of the things that got me about "A walk to remember" was (without revealing anything) even when Jamie is in her darkest hour, in Landon's eyes she is still undyingly beautiful. I think this is one of the messages that Sparks was trying to tell us. The story is essentially about looking past outer beauty. That is accomplished to absolute perfection.
In conclusion, "A walk to remember" is a is a simple story, however, locked within its pages are beautiful life lessons. But for me, this a wonderful glimpse at the traquility of first love, a walk we all remember one day.
Rating: Summary: Cry...for a walk to remember Review: This is a truly uplifting and hopeful story. I loved it just as much as "The Notebook" and "The Wedding". This is a different Nicholas Sparks, not one who is focused on the romantic love in his other works. Truly Beautiful. I highly recommend it to people of all ages.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever Review: I absolutely adored this book and for all those romantic book reading poeple out there this is the book for you. Since i like to read romantic novels but absolutely hate sex scenes it was hard to find a good book to read, so when i found this book i absolutely loved it. This book is definitely one of my all time favorites. It captured me from start to end and didn't loose me once. My mother always told me i was a picky reader because if a book did not capture my interest from the beginning i would have difficulty finishing it or just stop reading all together however i did not have a problem with this book. This book was very well written and i hope that Nicolas Sparks keeps up the good work.
Rating: Summary: "It was... In every way a walk to remember" Review: There are few books that are as full of joy, sadness, and love as A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. This book relays the tale of seventeen-year-old Langdon Carter and the girl who drastically changes his life.
The story is set in Beaufort, North Carolina, "...where the humidity rose so high in the summer that walking out to get the mail made a person feel as if he needed a shower, and the kids walked around barefoot from April through October beneath trees draped in Spanish moss." Langdon narrates the tale about himself and Jamie Sullivan. Jamie is the ultimate "good girl." She rescues injured animals, raises money for the local orphanage, and, to top it all off, she's the preacher's daughter. Jamie's life is sheltered; she doesn't have a boyfriend, nor does she attend school dances. Langdon is somewhat of the reverse- he sneaks out of his house at night, and is viewed as "rebellious" because of it. When the lives of these two opposites entangle, it transforms them both in ways they never could've imagined.
Nicholas Sparks' vivid imagery makes this story unforgettable; this book is for the romantic in all of us. Sweet, yet tear-jerking, this will be the novel you pick up to read again and again.
Rating: Summary: Awesome...simply awesome! Review: I didn't know what to expect as I started reading "a walk to remember". I had seen the movie, but since it was on network TV, and therefore, probably not complete, I decided to read the book and let it stand on its own merits. Hearing Nicholas Sparks read it made it that much more of a treat!
I've read some deep, even profound books in my time, but none that touched me in the way this book did. It takes a special book to make me cry, and this book is the first to do it. Seeing Landon's transformation was an awesome thing to behold because it was wonderfully written. Reading this book, and because a good friend saw the movie of "the notebook", I want to read more of Nicholas' books, and I eagerly await the chance to do just that.
Oh, by the way? All the other reviewers who have said you'll need Kleenex are right...have a box handy wherever you read this book!! I can't recommend it highly enough...even five stars doesn't do it justice!
