Rating: Summary: This is one of her best! Review: This is one of my favorite books. It was written in great detail and provided much information on Antarctica without getting boring. The ending was a bit disappointing, though.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT BOOK!!! Review: The headline speaks for it. About a teenage girl on a trip to Antarctica. There are many mysterious characters on the ship such as Otto,a prince from a foreign country! Action and surprise packed. Best for older children.
Rating: Summary: This was one of the best books I've ever read!!!!! Review: I found 'Troubling a Star' to be a truly well written story. The plot is filled to the brim with mystery, betrayal, and non-stop suspense. I absoulutly loved this book and especially the poems included in it.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED THIS BOOK!! Review: I really enjoyed this book. I read it because I wanted to know what happened to the characters in A Ring of Endless Light, but I enjoyed this more.
Rating: Summary: Bummer Review: I, too, was incredibly disappointed by this follow up to one of my favorite books, "A Ring of Endless Light." Vicky, who grew so much in AROEL, was appalling in this novel. I adore Madeleine L'Engle's work and hate to have to critcize her, but I feel she failed the character of Vicky. On the up side, there's always one's imagination, and Ms. L'Engle has certainly provided many wonderful characters and stories for her readers to continue to think about. Just don't count on this story for much help.
Rating: Summary: Stay-Up-All-Night Suspense Review: I found Troubling a Star to be a very enjoyable read. While I must concede that the character of Vicky tended to be rather dull and gullible, I was still quite intrigued by the plot. Though the Vicky of this book does not seem to have retained the depth of the Vicky of A Ring of Endless Light, I found her character in this book to be consistent with the Vicky portrayed in other Vicky Austin titles. For example, the Vicky that got involved with Zachary Grey was not exactly making wise choices! Despite Vicky's rather shallow character in this title, I found the book very suspenseful, and very full of important ideas. In this respect, Troubling a Star is more like The Young Unicorns, another immensely enjoyable book full of important ideas. For me, the most important theme of Troubling a Star, concerning the interconnectedness of all things, was well brought out. "That thou canst not stir a flower/Without troubling of a star."
Rating: Summary: IT WAS A WONDERFUL BOOK! Review: I loved this book. The information was very interesting. It was a really good thriller. It was exciting and I kept wanting to read more. I hope Madeline L'Engle writes more books on Vicky and the Austin family.
Rating: Summary: Extremely disappointing after Ring of Endless Light Review: I was so excited when I found this book, and so disappointed when I *read* it. The information about Antarctica was interesting, but Vicky's character seemed flat, dull and gullible. As a sequel to the incredible Ring of Endless Light, this is a failure.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BOOK!!! Review: This was a GREAT book!!It was everything I exspected and MORE! This is a book that you can not put down!! I read it in less then one day! It is like your fingers are glued to the pages! If you like penguins you will enjoy this book and if you do not like penguins you will enjoy this book. I think this is a book for the whole family to read!!
Rating: Summary: One of my Favorites Review: This book is one of my favorite L'Engle novels. I remember as a child loving L'Engle's books in the Time series. I am currently working on my PhD and realized several years ago that the most refreshing books to relax with (after reading hundreds of pages of expository text) were those classified as "young-adult" books. And L'Engle is one of my favorite "young-adult" authors! This book is set in the school year immediately following the conclusion of "A Ring of Endless Light." And for those of you who loved that book as I did, you will be happy to know that in "Troubling a Star" you will get to see what happens to Vicky and Adam. Adam has the opportunity to go study in Antarctica and Vicky soon learns she has been given a gift of her very own study abroad trip. While the two don't travel together, their experiences and the dangers they both face tie their two trips together in a wonderful way. Buy this book to find out more...
