Rating: Summary: This is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book is really cool. It is definatly one of her best. I really liked the Time series, (you know, WRINKLE IN TIME, A WIND IN THE DOOR, and A SWIFTLY TILTING PLANET) I like the way she uses the same families for her books. I really like Vicky's poems. Especialy the one thaat goes- "I've made myself vulnerable, I'v let myself care." that one's really good. It's touching, or at least, I thought so.
Rating: Summary: A Great adventure and Love Story Review: This is the continuing story of the Austins' and their lives. Vicky a stable but very unstable teenager finds comfort in her family, her friends, and more recently Adam's wealthy Great Aunt Serena. For Vicky's 16th Birthday Serena gives Vicky an all expense paid trip to Antarctica where Adam is working. When Vicky's family agrees to let her go, strange notes appear on her locker at school she gets a little worried but she pushes it aside for the time being. Vicky get escorted by Serena's cook Cook who is going to Antarctica to see his brother. On the way Vicky meet strange but interesting people. The first stop is Vespugia a country in Southern America. She meets new people that are going on the trip including an Prince who seems to be smitten with her. Vickey feels quite safe traveling with Cook but interesting things are going on. When finnally reaching Antartica Vicky is hopefull for some fun but also to learn. Suddenly Vicky gets "cool it" letters from Adam and she doesn't know what to think, because she and Adam had been very close and personal friends for some time and this came as a complete shock to her. Vicky overhears and oversees things she knows she is not supposed to see and she doesn't know who to tell. Cook is off with his brother and can't be reached, and she could tell Adam but what would he care? He has nothing to do with Vicky now. When Vicky feels she can't trust anyone, things happen she knows aren't supposed to happen but she just keeps on going. She found some comfort with the people she had met on the boat, but is it really enough comfort? Vicky doesn't feel safe anymore and the things she overheard and saw could cost her her life. Vicky finds herself in a lot of cold situations but fortunatly gets out. I really like thins book and I think it is a great book to read again and again! This is an adventure, mystery, and part love story which is great because it shows how different life can be if you look at it in 3 different ways. I would reccomend this book to anyone who likes adventure, Madaline L'Engle and, of course the Austins! I also liked this book because of the authoer! I think Madaline L'Engle is a great writer with a special gift and she sowed it off in not only this book but the whole Austin family series. This book might not be for young children but definitely for young adults!
Rating: Summary: Majestic Review: I thought this was a very good book. I liked the way it followed in the tradition of A Ring of Endless Light. It's about friendship and trustworthyness on the majesty of Antarctic ice. So colorfully written and life like. Even me, though just a child, couldn't help being captivated by it.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: As a teacher I am constantly reading children's books. Don't let the length of this scare you. Whether you are a longtime L'Engle fan or not you will not be able to put this down. I am very fond of 16 year old Vicky Austin and have read and reread all of the Austin stories. One of L'Engle's better books!
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Review: I could not put this wonderful book down. It kind of interupted with my sleeping, though. It brought tears to my eyes, thoughts to my head and excitement to my reading. I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I can't wait to read it's prequels.
Rating: Summary: This book was amazing! Review: This book told me a lot about Antarctica and Penguins. This book was very hard to put down, I loved it. Adam and Vicky don't know what their geting into when they go to Antarctica.
Rating: Summary: one of the best books ever written Review: I loved this book. I'm still in the last chapter, but I love everything i read. from reading others reviews, it seemed like it was a bad sequel to "Ring of endless Light" if those people say that this wasn't a really good book, then i must get around to reading Ring of endless light. I loved this book so much, that one time I woke up around 12:00 am and I decided to read to get myself to sleep. and i didn't sleep at all the rest of the night. I read and read and read. it is a very exiting book, and I love the way that Madeleine went into the future in the begining of each chapter. in my mind. there isn't a better book. a friend reccomennded this book to me, and it has changed my life. this is a great book.
Rating: Summary: Absoloutely excellent Review: This book is the best book I have ever read. I think that this book was a tear jerker. I couldn't help staying up all night reading it to see what happens. Just when you thought that it was getting boring a new exciting thing happend. My friend and I both absoloutely loved reading this book.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: I think it was a great book. I styed up till 3:00 A.M reading it. I think it matches well with all the other Austin books. Adam and Vicki are fun to read about. If you think this book won't be any good because some people say Vicki is boring, READ IT ANYWAY!
Rating: Summary: Madeline L'Engle: PLEASE read this! Review: TAS was the 2nd best book I have read yet. Of course no one can really compare " A ring of Endless Light" to anything because it far exceeds everything else. Vicky Austin is my favorite charecter of all that you created. I really hate critisim, and I'd like to see those other people write a book better than "Troubleing A Star". My personal opinion, to you Ms. L'Engle: the story was wonderful. I love books about Vicky. Keep writing and i'll keep reading.
love, LyNn
