Rating: Summary: Good, but not her best Review: Being a huge L'Engle fan, I was very excited to read her most recent book, but was disapointed by it's quality. The story was excellent -- a cross between mystery, romance, and adventure on the high seas. The writing itself, however, seemed to be lacking. Unlike her other novels, Troubling a Star seemed to be written in a much simpler style, yet with the same young adult content. The dialogue was trite and made the protagonist, Vicky, seem like a very foolish child. I would recomend it only to the most avid L'Engle fans. To everyone else -- try Ring of Endless Light or Moon By Night.
Rating: Summary: Troubling A Star is A Must Have! Review: Troubling a Star was just as great as A Ring of Endless Light. I love all the old Characters and the new ones make the story all that much better! I hope Madeline L'Engle writes more books focusing mainly on Adam And Vicky's relationship! You have to read this book!
Rating: Summary: A lovely L'Engle Mystery Review: Although not the best of her works, I thourouly enjoyed this read. Some of the Vespugian topics may be over younger L'Engle fans heads, but it is still marvoulous. I loved the new characters, and the old ones. Its a great book to fantisize about. Traveling to Antartica, and participating in a mystery, are great day dreams. This is a must read for any L'Engle fan!
Rating: Summary: Definitely a good read! Review: This is the second Vicky Austin book I've read. I read Ring of Endless Light first. I really liked Troubling a Star, but it could be confusing at times. If you read this book, make sure to pay attention to the details. But it is really great. I'm glad Vicky and Adam are still together. I hope Ms. L'Engle writes more books with Vicky and Adam in them.
Rating: Summary: A Big Fan Review: I really think this book deserves 4 1/2 stars but their wasn't a option for that. I loved this book! I started reading this book because I love the O'keef family and I had just finished The Arm Of A Starfish where Adam makes an apperance. Although their where no other conections to the O'keefs I am now interested in reading more about the Austins. This book was fun to read because like in all of L'Engles books the unexpected happens. This book also made me want to do something I had never thought of doing Going to Antartica! For first time readers I recamend that you read the books in the order they were published so that you can keep track of what is going on in each family. If this book does not sound interesting to you then you should read the other books I garenty you will like them.
Rating: Summary: I Loved It Review: Simply I loved the book. But I am confused about Vespugia. I have never heard of it before and the book calls it a country in South America. I have looked on maps and can't find it. I'd like to know more about Vespugia. Thanks!
Rating: Summary: Different-but Good! Review: This book is very different from the other Austin books. First of all, the whole family is not very involved. Vicky is sixteen and just got a birthday present from Aunt Serena, Adam Eddington's aunt. It is a ticket to Antarctica! While she is going there she gets strange letters from Adam and meets a prince! The descriptions of Anarctica are stunningly beautiful. But there's something wrong. As in all her books, Ms. L'Engle makes you feel something strange is going on. And there is.
Rating: Summary: great girli book Review: This book has mystery, suspense, and romance. I recomend this book to young teen girls because of the point from which the story is written. Vicky gets a birthday present of a trip to Antartica. She meets a prince and some men who aren't what they seem.
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I thought that this was a great book. Though it might seem obvious that the author is trying to make Vicki seem unaware that many boys like her, it was a suspensful and intriuging book. It was written in the same style as the other Austin books, the style that I have come to love. If you are looking for a great read, read this book!
Rating: Summary: Troubling a Star Review: This was an awesome book! It's one of my favorites. It has everything that makes a book great : mystery, suspense, even a little romance. This book is about a naive teenager named Vicky Austin. She receives an amazing gift from the great-aunt of a good family friend, Adam Eddington : a trip to Antarctica. On the way, Vicky makes some new friends. Some are good, true friends who are on her side. Others are not what they seem. She ends up involved in a struggle for money and power. Vicky's life is in danger, and she can't get out of it without help, which comes from a source very welcome by the readers. Throughout the book, Vicky grows up, and learns much about herself and about the other people in her life. Like I said, this is a great book, really fabulous. Give it a try. You might just enjoy it.
