Rating: Summary: Voight Review: I have long remained a fan of Cynthia Voight's work, and this book stands among my favorites (On Fortune's Wheel, Dicey's Song). I've re-read it several times over the years, and each time I gain a greater appreciation for Voight's thoughtful and meticulous style. This sensitive novel focuses introspectively on the nature of love and pain, loss and discovery, family and solitude. The style seems relatively simple-- the language unassuming and familiar, like conversing with a close friend--, yet the author gradually draws the reader into the mind and soul of one young boy dealing with love and loss and healing. The character and plot development is flawless and strengthens the underlying "moral" lesson without shoving it in the reader's face. The conclusion is short, but leaves one thoughtful long after glimpsing the final words. Children and adults both will appreciate and cherish this timeless story.
Rating: Summary: Years later, this book still sucks me in Review: It has been over 15 years since I first read A Solitary Blue, and I'm now on my third copy. As a young girl it helped me understand lonliness and depression, as a teenager I would read it to remind me that boys were people too, and could be experiencing pain I might not understand. And now the simple beauty of the language and flow of the story still cause me to stay up all night reading. Please give this book a chance, it contains a lot of truth, and tells a wonderful story.
Rating: Summary: Truely Outstanding Review: This boy, Jeff Green has been to hell and back and doesn't realize this till his mother shows up from out of no where and wants to start a relationship with her son again. Jeff at first was blinded by his mothers sweet smile but later comes to see that she's a bunch of balonie. When Jeff's grandmother dies he inheirits his grandmothers dimond ring and his mother is jealous. Here is when his emotions kick in and he comes to reality that his mother doesn't love him and pours all of his emotions to her about when she left when he was small and still in first grade. It is truely an outstounding book so you must READ IT!
Rating: Summary: getting inside people's heads just a little too much Review: the saga of jeff, torn apart by his mother's leaving him with the professor, his elderly father, is one that could make the hardest of all readers cry. but still, it is just a little too much for me. like-hey, thanks for letting me jump inside his mind, but now what's the point of finishing this book? but it does tie in perfectly with 'dicey's song', which is better. not only shorter, but much better.
Rating: Summary: Touching. Something you will keep on coming back to. Review: I read a few of Cynthia Voight's book and this is one of her best works. You see Jeff, how he loves his mother, then she just broke his heart which left him in a deep depression. You finally see him come out of his shell. This book has numerous meaning. I loved every bit of it. I couldn't put it down. I encourage you all to read it, you won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Joltingly realistic and emotional Review: This is my favorite book. Jeff's feelings are so real that when I read it I often feel as though I am inside his mind. I love every word of the story. I wish the characters were real people, because I would like to meet them.
Rating: Summary: I recomend that every teen read "A Solitary Blue" Review: The book "A Solitary Blue" Is based on a boy namedJeff that had no one there to show him affection because. Jeffs mothermoved out when he was seven an a half. His father which he called the"Professor didnt show him any kind of affection and was very impasive toward everyone. Jeffs dad was a professor at the university where they lived. Then he met this man by the name of Brother Thomas which was a cathlic minister. Brother Thomas showed him quite a bit of affection. Then when he was twelve he went and visted his mother and she showed him a lot of affection and loved him very dearly. She met this guy and kind of let their relationship get farther apart. I encourage you to read the book to see what happens next.
Rating: Summary: 2 excellent novels in one. That's it's necessary problem. Review: Cynthia Voigt has created a world through her Tillerman novels. These different novels often go over the same events but from different points of view considering which character is telling it. The problem is to tie each character into the saga of the tillermans. Voigt was successful but obviously had a problem with the break in the novel between Baltimore and Chrisfield. The character of Melody is truly facinating because her motivations are at cross purposes. The Proffessor is a quiet, man who shows little emotion. How these two ever fell in Love, married and had Jeff is a shadow over the novel. Part I helps explain it so it is more interesting. Part II is trying to connect us to the Tillerman family. I hope Voigt writes her next novel about how the proffessor and Melody became involved from Melody's point of view.
Rating: Summary: A realistic book about one teenager's life Review: 'A Solitary Blue' is a book for any young adults who like realistic fiction books you can't put down. The reader is sure to enjoy the characters and how easily they connect with real people. Though 'A Solitary Blue' is not a true story, it is very similar to many people's lives. I rate this book with five stars simply because you can't rate a book any higher (though this book truthfully deserves about 50,000 stars). This is a Newberry Honor book. If it's adjectives you're looking for, here are some that definitely describe this book: Gripping, compelling, exciting, realistic, and original. Thank's for reading this review and be sure to check out 'A Solitary Blue' by Cynthia Voigt.
Rating: Summary: "Poignant, touching, a joy forever" Review: I loved the book, first I read On Fortune's Wheel and then I found a Solitary Blue. I love the book as it made me think more about things, life. It was poignant and touching, some parts made me want to cry. I really liked Jeff, he was so brave and so strong mentally. I also liked Dicey - those two matched well. I recommend to anyone to read this book. It pulls at your heart strings.
