Rating: Summary: My thoughts About Girl In Blue Review: I thought the book Girl In Blue was a fascinating book. It really gave me a good description of what times were like during the Civil War. I think the author could have been a little more clear about where some events took place. The author really showed that Sarah ( the main character) was a very brave couragous girl with lots of will power so she would not blow her cover as a spy. This should definitely be an award-winning book and I hope Mrs. Rinaldi knows that she is an exremely talented writer!
Rating: Summary: Really Interesting Review: I thought this book was one of Ann Rinaldi's best books! The dialoge was really great. One thing that bothered me was that none of the characters from the army half of the book were in the spy part of the book. I still reccomend this book to people who like the Civil War.
Rating: Summary: A 16-year-old girl becomes soldier and spy during in 1861. Review: Sarah Louisa Wheelock grew up on a run-down Michigan farm with a domineering, abusive father, a timid mother unwilling to protect herself and her children, a crippled older brother, and two sisters, Clarice, who found her escape in marriage, and flirtatious Betsy, who could do no wrong in their father's eyes. At sixteen, Sarah longs for freedom even as the country is engulfed by the beginnings of the Civil War. Her father would have her married to their repulsive neighbor Ezekiel Kunkle, a man twice Sarah's age. But Sarah has her own plans. She runs away from home disguised as a boy and enlists in the Union Army. When her identity as a girl is discovered, Sarah is given two options - go to prison, or become a spy. Sarah chooses the latter. And undercover as a maid to Confederate agent Rose O'Neal Greenhow, Sarah becomes caught up in a dangerous conspiracy that could claim her life. Ann Rinaldi has written another thrilling historical novel. I reccomend this, her newest book, to all her fans.
Rating: Summary: Civil war history comes alive Review: Sarah runs away from home when she learns she's to be given in marriage to a hated older neighbor, and she joins the army disguised as a man and becomes part of the Civil War and its battles. When she's eventually discovered, she moves on to become a spy in a household where information smuggling is taking place even while under occupation. Civil war history comes alive under Rinaldi's hand in this fine story, based on real events.
Rating: Summary: Girl in Blue Review: Sixteen-year-old Sarah Louisa Wheelock is determined that she will live her own life and that no man will ever control her. However, her father has other ideas. He has promised Ezekiel Kunkle, whose wife has recently died, that Sarah will marry him. Sarah knows that she then can look forward to caring for Ezekiel's children and slaving from morning to night trying to keep up with the work of a farm and home; her life will be no better than it is with her abusive father.
Before her father can carry out his plan, Sarah takes matters into her own hands. Disguising herself as a boy and calling herself Neddy Compton, Sarah joins the Union Army to fight against the Confederates. Living in such close proximity to male soldiers, Sarah has a hard time hiding that she is a girl; and it is a woman who ultimately betrays her. After she is found out and can no longer continue as a male nurse, Sarah's life takes an entirely new direction.
Once again, Ann Rinaldi has written an exciting and adventure-filled novel about a young girl living in historical times. The book is full of well-researched facts and believable fictional characters. In addition, she has included in her Author's Note the source of her characters as well as women's roles in the American Revolution and the American Civil War.

Rating: Summary: MORE LIKE 10 STARS! Review: There are two particular Ann Rinaldi books that I was sorry to finish: The Fifth of March, and this! I loved this book so much! It's about Sarah Louisa Wheelock. She lives in a family with a cruel abusive father who wishes for her to marry a terrible man who is at least twice her age! So, Sarah runs away to join the Union army, pretending to be a young man. After a couple of months of being with it, she is discovered to be a girl! Sarah is placed before the choice of possibly going to jail, or becoming a Pinkerton spy. Read this completely amazing book to see what happens next! I guarrantee you'll soon be adding it to your favorite book list! Who couldn't?! Just read it!
Rating: Summary: Girl In Blue Review Review: This book is about a girl who lives on a farm with her family, and leaves to go fight in the war. She has to disguise herself as a man, lie about her age, and try to not get caught by her family.I really enjoyed reading this book because it had so many parts that were unpredictable. It seemed like the whole time the book was at its climax. However, I think it could've ended a little better. You are stuck wondering what happened in her future? Other than that though, it was a really good book. I remember always going up to my room and I read almost all of it in one day, because I always wanted to know what happened next. This is definitely one of the top 10 books that I've read, but probably by just a little bit. If you normally read books that have good beginnings and good endings, then you wouldn't read this one because during both of them I found myself getting bored and my mind was wandering. But if you are a person who just likes the climax, this is just the book for you. Also you would probably read this if you enjoy historical fiction books. Another thing that I didn't like about it was the fact that it was really short. I could read this book in a day if I wanted to (and I did), and everything went by really fast. But there are a lot of details, so I always had a mental picture of exactly what it would be like. I personally enjoy books that you would be able to read twice and still enjoy it, but this wasn't one of them. However, I enjoyed every minute of it, and it wasn't too confusing, so it would be a perfect book to read as a class, but if you were doing independent reading, I wouldn't recommend it to you.
Rating: Summary: Girl Finds True Self Review: This book is about a girl who runs away from home and joins the Union Army. She works in a hospital until she has to go and fight. She sees lots of bloody and disturbing things that leave her stunned. She goes back to the hospital to help there and does lots of other things. She ends up becoming a spy and working in a home spying on a spy for the South. I liked this book. It showed the courage and spunk of one girl to run away from something she didn't like and do something she wanted to do.
