Rating: Summary: Under the Blood Red Sun Review: This book is definately one of the best World War ll books I have ever read. I do not really like books about history or war but I kind of liked this one. Under the Blood Red Sun is about Tomikazu, a 8th grade Japanese boy, and his Japanese family who live in a small house about the size of a large shed. Tomi's mother works as a maid for their neighbors who live in a mansion-like house. Tomi's father works as a fisherman. They all live in Hawaii next to Pearl Harbor. The only thing Tomi and his best friend Billy can think about is Baseball. When Pearl Harbor is attacked and Tomi's father is sent to Sand Island, his baseball team, the Rats, stick up for Tomi as people attack him and make fun him for being Japanese. Even Tomi's grandpa is taken to Sand Island. Tomi may have to get a job to support his family. Will Tomi be able to survive World War ll. You'll have to read the book to find out!

Rating: Summary: Under the Blood Red Sun a review by Ben Review: Under The Blood Red SunHave you ever wanted to read a book with lots of adventure, scary moments, and puzzling events? Well, then I guess Under The Blood Red Sun, by Graham Salisbury, is the right book for you. The protagonist of the story, Tomikazu, faces many challenges, including being discriminated for being Japanese. His family is also Japanese, and they also face many challenges. Will Tomikazu and his friends, the Rats, be able to help the town fight back against the Japanese who bombed Pearl Harbor? Find out as you read this fantastic book! An event in this novel that I really fancied was when Tomi, Billy. Papa, and Sanji went fishing in the beautiful and gleaming ocean. When everyone boarded the boat, Billy felt kind of nervous because he had never been on a boat before. However, when the boat arrived at their fishing spot, Billy felt pride instead of nervousness. After that, everyone went fishing, and their fishing poles were huge! Tomi, Papa, and Sanji were catching a lot of fish, but Billy hadn't caught any. Then, all of a sudden, Billy got a gigantic and powerful bite on his line, almost pulling his pole into the water. Will Billy ever catch the monstrous fish at the bottom of the ocean? Another event in the novel that I thought was really neat was when Tomi, Billy and the Rats played the Caaco Boys. The baseball game started out as a tie, 1-1 to be exact. Towards the end of the game, however, the Rats pulled ahead, making the game 3-1. After that, the Caaco Boys tied t11e game, and their star player hurt one of the Rats players. Who will win the continuous fight for being the team that wins? The last event in the story that explains the title is when the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor. The event starts out as Billy and Tomi are playing baseball at Diamond Grass, a sparkling place in the morning. Billy sees rising smoke from Pearl Harbor, and he quickly tells Tomi to get to the tall banyan tree. On top of the tree, the two of them see Pearl Harbor being circled by Japanese fighter planes, with blood-red suns painted on the plane's fuselage. Pearl Harbors' ships are ablaze and the smoke could be seen for miles to stretch. Thus, how the story got its name, for that day many people lost their lives from the Japanese bombing and destroying many ships in Pearl Harbor . The book, Under The Blood Red Sun, by Graham Salisbury, was really good. This book has a lot of adventure and dangers, and it told me that Japanese people were discriminated because Japanese people had bombed Pearl Harbor. I hope you read this fantastic book and find out about all of the "Secretive events!"
Rating: Summary: Under the blood-red sun Review: Under The Blood-Red Sun by Graham Salisbury is one of the better books I've read. It's about a boy named Tomi who has to deal with discrimination of Japanise-Americans after Pearl Harbor was attacked. Ths book only has a few exiteting parts in it but it is well written so you will want to read on. My favorite part is when Tomi and his friend Billy go fishing with Tomi's dad. Another good part is the epilogue that has interesting facts. I recommend this book to people who like history.

Rating: Summary: Under the Blood Red Sun Review: This book, Under the Blood Red Sun, is a book that may seem like it has many different meanings, but I personally think it is about racism. I think it is this because it takes place during WWII and many people are prejudice against Japanese-Americans because the country of Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. The story is about a boy, Tomi, and how his family survives during the war. The book starts out with Tomi always playing baseball with his best friend, Billy, and their baseball team they put together. Their team, the Rats, usually played another player-owned team from the ghetto. The ghetto is usually called the Ka'Kao, and the baseball team is called the Ka'Kao Boys. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, most of the Ka'Kao Boys have to get jobs and they break up. Tomi has to start doing chores and has less and less time to hang out with Billy. The story goes on with several interesting twists and will keep you glued to the book to find out what happened. I personally would give the book a 4/5 star rating because I thought the story got a little slower later in the book and, if it doesn't get more exciting, I tend to lose interest. I would have given it a 5/5 rating but because of the 'slowing' of the story. I would encourage anybody who enjoys historical fiction books or just fiction books to read this book.
Rating: Summary: This a great book that tells the story of a historical event Review: Under the Blood Red Sun was a very good book and I think the author told the story very realistically. He also did a good job of keeping the book going. For example he had 13 year old Tomi play baseball and that kept the book going in between main events. The actions of him and his mother when Sanji died and when his father and grandfather got taken away seemed to be something that an average person would do.The book told a great story of the Pearl Harbor bombing and the Japanese Internment.
Rating: Summary: Under the Blood Red Sun is a great book! Review: This novel was very well written by Graham Salisbury. One important reason this book is so interesting is Salisbury's use of literary devices. The greatest of these literary devices used are round character, flat character, and symbolism. These three literary devices really bring the story to life. Character development is extremely important in any novel. Salisbury gave each character in Under the Blood Red Sun the right character to strengthen them in the story. Tomi is classified as a round character. Throughout the story, we became more understanding of Tomi and his complete lifestyle. Papa, on the other hand, is a very important character in the novel but is known as a flat character. Salisbury does not go into detail about him at all until the end when he is taken away. Symbolism is slightly used in Under the Blood Red Sun. To represent Tomi's family's Japanese pride, they had a picture of the Japan emperor and also a Japanese flag. Even when they are being bombed by the Japanese, Tomi's grandpa continued to symbolize his pride in his native country. Although they still had pride later on, the fact that they had to hide their stuff does not mean they are not symbolizing their devotion. Graham Salisbury did an excellent job using literary devices in this novel. By his use of these devices, Under the Blood Red Sun was strengthened. Salisbury's character development and symbolism really helped to improve the features of this book.
Rating: Summary: WAR! Review: A Review by Jon This book is about a Japanese boy named Tomi and his family, including his grandparents, sister, and mother. They all live together in the same home in Hawaii. Tomi plays on a baseball team called the "Rats" with his best friend, Billy. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese come in the early morning and bomb Pearl Harbor. Tomi's family lives near this harbor and they get into trouble with the U.S. army because they are of Japanese descent and follow Japanese traditions. The reason they got into trouble is they were seen hanging a Japanese flag at their home and were reported by their neighbors. They try to deal with the attack on the harbor by trying to stay alive as best they can each day. One thing I liked about this book was the characters. Orr portrayed each character in such a way that it was very clear to know what each one was thinking throughout the story. Another thing I liked about this book was the clear descriptions and details. For example, the basic sentence "The sky turned black," was replaced with the descriptive wording "The sky turned jet black and the smell was like burned rubber and gunpowder." These words painted a clear picture in my mind about what was really happening in the story. The thing I liked the most about the book was most of the information was true. To me, that is what makes a good book. The only thing I didn't like about the book was it was kind of predictable since the reader would be able to foretell the future based on the words and actions of the characters. This story is a good read for people who like history, action, and adventure, and like to sit at the edge of their seat.
