Rating: Summary: Dark, but not bright Review: The first time I saw this book, I didn't buy it. Later regretting that decision, I searched for it and after a long time found it. I bought it, expecting a thrilling read about a disturbed teenage girl. The girl, Lisa, was disturbed, but the story didn't thrill me. I learned nothing new about mental illness, except that many times even adults handle the situation like children.(which wasn't really all that new to me before, I just never thought about it) Plus, three of the four girls involved in the story had similar names: Lisa, Elizabeth, and Betsy. Some parts of the book were interesting, but for the most part it disillusioned me. Don't rush out and get this book.
Rating: Summary: Read Reality Review: Lisa Bright and Dark is the story of a girl named Lisa who slowly drifts into a world of craziness. Her friends try to get help from teachers, their parents, and Lisa's own parents; who stupidly don't want to realize what is really happening to their daughter. .... The book shows how cruel and cold a person's own parents can be because inside themselves, they are not strong enough to admit or to deal with the fact that their child really has a problem...it opened my mind and perspectives to new areas. It also opened my heart to help others, as her friends did in the book. I believe the book is very relistic, and true to the things that can happen when people refuse to accept reality....
Rating: Summary: This book was okay, but..... Review: Lisa, Bright and Dark was an okay book. It was about a girl, struggling with drugs. If you really want to read a better book about the same kind of thing, read Go Ask Alice, i read it 3 times.
Rating: Summary: Interesting book! Review: I have currently just finished the book "Lisa Bright and Dark" as a project in my grade 12 english writing class. I found the book quite interesting and also how the girls friends would help her. Lisa wasn't the easiest person to get along with since she was going crazy. I would like to know how the author thought of such Idea to make betsy like Lisa Shillings Ex boyfriend and how he decided if she was going to be alright in the end because when you are reading the story you sometimes get the assumption the Lisa was going to kill herself. I didn't especially like the role played by the parents because I think when your kid is "telling" you that she/he is going crazy they are telling the truth.....
Rating: Summary: english 7 Review: This book was about a girl named Lisa Shilling who was losingher mind. She would have light days and dark days. On light days shewould act like she normaly did before she contracted her illness, fun and active. But, on her dark days she would dress in all black, and not talk to anyone. On those days it was like she wasn't there at all. The story is told by a girl named Betsy Goodman. In my opion she would be the last person telling you about Lisa. Three of Lisa's friends, Mary Nell, Elizabeth, and Betsy know early on that there is something wrong with Lisa. But the weird thing is no one pays attention to them, not even Lisa's parents. The girls try everything to get help for Lisa. They ask everyone, Lisa's teachers, her guidance counseler, and their own parents. But, every try ends in defeat. Meanwhile, Lisa is getting worse and worse and her parents still won't admit something is wrong. Will the girls get help for her in time, or will her whole life turn into one dark day? This book was not very interesting or in some parts wasn't even realistic. The author writes that Lisa's parents never realize what is happening to her. But, you would have to be totally oblivous to not know what is going on. Also you never really read about her illness, you never find out what it is or it never actually tells you clearly what is happening in Lisa's head. Another weird thing is that one day Lisa just says she is going crazy. It seems like she just picked it up like a common cold. It's very strange. When you are reading the book it sometimes doesn't even seem like Lisa is the main character. It tells a lot about the other girls life's too. Which I pesonally didn't want to know about. I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone, but if I had to pick a age group I would say thirteen and up. Reading this book was really a waste of time.
Rating: Summary: It was okay.... Review: The book was okay, but it wasn't great. I was really interesting on how Lisa acted, but besides that there really wasn't anything else. I didn't like how it was in another character's point of view. I think it would have been better if Lisa told the story. I didn't like the ending either. It was a good read, but I won't read it again...
Rating: Summary: Poor Point of View Review: In my opinion, I simply hated this book. I'm into the whole mental illness scene, but this book was poorly written. It's not even written from Lisa's point of view. We just get to hear about her feelings and actions from the friend telling the story, Betsy. Betsy, the narrator, is concerned for her friend, yet she talks about her life too. I really didn't care about her family or about who she thought was cute. That has nothing to do with Lisa and her illness. And Lisa's parents are the most blind people, which is the point..but its hard to think someone's parent would ignore such cries out for help. Quite a disappointment.
Rating: Summary: CRAZY GIRL Review: LISA, BRIGHT AND DARK WAS A GOOD BOOK.LISA BRIGHT AND DARK WAS VERY INTERESTING WHEN IT WAS INTERESTING, BUT WHEN IT WASN'T IT WAS DULL. THE EXCITING PARTS MADE ME ALMOST SICK WITH WORRY AND SORROW, BUT THE UNEXCITING PARTS MADE THE BOOK NOT WORTH 5 STARS. ( WHICH IS WHY I GAVE IT 4)I THOUGHT THE BOOK WAS VERY GOOD BECAUSE IT HAD A GOOD THEME, AND WAS WRITEN VERY WELL. LISA, BRIGHT AND DARK GRABBED ME BECAUSE IT WAS SO REAL.THE BOOK IS SOMETHING THAT I WOULD RECOMEND TO MOST OF MY FRIENDS. THE BEST PERSON TO BUY THIS BOOK FOR WOULD BE FOR SOMEONE 12+. I AM TWELVE AND USUALLY REALISTIC FICTION DOES NOT SCARE ME...... BUT THIS ONE DID.
Rating: Summary: A Look Into A Different World Review: Lisa, Bright and Dark is a haunting true life look at mental illness in a teenage girl. Although it was a slow read, the realness of it kept me reading. I feel it accuratly depicted all characters...especially the want-to-be-affluent parents in denial...that happens more often than we would all like to admit. Overall I feel this was a worthwhile story...but I did find it quite tedious in a lot of places.
Rating: Summary: This book touches too close to home base Review: The book Lisa, Bright and Dark wasn't written very well. The story line is a little thin and the same with the characters, except Lisa. It's true that an adult would have gotten through and tried helping Lisa after the first incident under Mr. Milne's desk. I normally wouldn't recommend a book as thin as this one but it really meant something to me. It scared me, actually. I think it reminds me of myself( excluding the English voice, of course). I feel I'm going mad in the same way. I too have "bright" days and "dark" ones. I don't think they are as extreme. I feel like I connect with Lisa. Like I'm starting to go through what she wen't through. I still haven't finish the book, but I have to for an assignment for school. This book freaks me out so much. I advise that if you feel like you might be going a little crazy yourself, then do not read this book. It just might be enough to make you believe it so much that you will always have it in the back of your mind. Letting it make you crazy. I think this book has enough information to show how someone might be crazy. I'm sorry to say that I regret ever picking it up and reading as much as I did. For those who don't take these kinds of story lines too seriously, I still don't recommend this book to you. Books like this one make our society crazy. We have no true sense of ourselves until we read about other people's personalities, making our society whatever anyone else preaches. Thank-you, Heather <amlapura@goplay.com> END
