Rating: Summary: not what i expected Review: This book was not exciting. From the beginning it was slow and dull. The characters didn't seem to have much depth. I was unable to connect to any of the characters. The plot was weak and didn't appear until the middle of the book. It lacked descriptive words and it was hard to keep up with. This book was a slow read and I did not keep my interest. The topic was not interesting. There are better books like Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, they are compelling, exciting and keep the reader involved in the story line. I don't think anyone should pick up "Beyond The Burning Time" anytime soon.
Rating: Summary: This is a great book! Review: This book was really informative to read. I had never read a book about the Salem Witch trials before and I think that I really learned a lot. It gave an inside story on what it would have been like to live during those times in Salem. It was really neat to see the inside story and how the whole incident came about. They tell the story from a girl's point of view; she is about 15 years old. Many people were tried unjustly and her mom is taken away along with many other people suspected of witchcraft. Most people who were tried were sentenced to die so you get to see how it affected families and other people not only in Salem but also from many other parts of the country. I really enjoyed this book and I really learned a lot! I would really recommend it for people under 20 because they could get an idea of what it would have been like to live there, at that age, in that time!
Rating: Summary: i hate to read, yet i couldn't put it down!... Review: This book was so thrilling. It gave so much information about the witch trails, but it gave you a chance to form you own opinions. It was not from the point of view of an afflicted girl, or an accused withc, making it less opinionated, and more thrilling.
Rating: Summary: Awesome!!!!! Review: This is the best book I have read in a long time. I couldn't put it down. You definatly have to read this book.

Rating: Summary: FABULUS!!! Review: This was the best book I have read in a long time. It has great information on the Salem witch hunt, a tragic time in history, yet it isn't too factual. I give it five stars because it was soo interesting and not full of facts.
Rating: Summary: Kathryn Lasky was MAGNIFICENT!!! Review: This wonderfully written novel is a great way to show what life was like in Salem, MA in 1692. Although most of the characters are fictional, you will be surprised to find out who really lived in those times in this book. When you reead this book, you will feel as if you are Mary Chase on her quest to save her mother from being killed for the use of witchcraft.
Rating: Summary: Was very...confusing... Review: Warning:Do not read this if you have a tendency to become depressed.Beyond the Burning Time proves to be a deathly novel. The author, instead of explaining things in normal form, used such murderous words to describe everything. There are still some parts of the book that disturb me to this day. It was even revolting at times. But hey, witch trials are great! Mary, on the other hand, was a different story. She wasn't explained in a deathly manner. She wasn't explained at all. She had not one feeling that I could see. Once in a while the author would throw in some wanna-be poetic comment that she probably thought would discribe Mary, but it only resulted in being cheap, and totally irrelevant to the whole novel, since it was so far from being poetic. Anyway, the only thing I have to say is that from what I read, the author tried too hard to be...something...and ended up very murderous.
Rating: Summary: Beyond the Burning Time Review: When I read this book, I found it interesting, although it was confusing in some parts. Beyond the Burning Time by Kathryn Laskey is about a girl, named Mary Chase, that lives in the Salem Town area during the Salem witch trials. Many people in the community are being accused of being witches and many are being arrested daily. One person that is accused of being a witch is Mary?s mother, Virginia. The plot is that Mary and her brother, Caleb, are trying to get their mother out of jail before she is killed. I found the plot and the setting of this book very entertaining. I would recommend this book to 6th or 7th graders. It does get confusing at some points because there are so many characters. However, the further you get into the book, the more interesting it is, and it's also less confusing because many of the characters die. Even though this book is sometimes puzzling, the story line helps make the book a lot better. The background of the Salem witch trials also helps the book make more sense.
