Rating: Summary: A very heartwarming book Review: I read a lot of Beverly Cleary's books as a little girl and loved them. As an adult, I loved her autobiographies. This book not only described her college life, how she met her husband, and became a writer, but what life was like during the Depression and WWII. She described her battles with a difficult mother without being overly resentful. I am amazed at how well she gets along with kids and how she can write so well for kids, considering her own mother didn't really express her love for Beverly when she was growing up. From this book, I could also see little anecdotes in her autobiography, which showed up in her books. She described how when she was a librarian and when kids applied for library cards, one kid mentioned that her dad mowed the lawn when asked what he did. I remember reading this as Ramona's response in one of the Ramona books. Is Beverly Cleary still alive? She must be up there in years. At any rate, I loved her autobiographies, and when I have children, I will not hesitate in encouraging my kids to read her books.
Rating: Summary: A beautifully written autobiography Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this true account. It was interesting how her life began unraveling from the first page to the end. It took a lot of courage for her to tell what she thought about her parents. I would love to meet her someday. This was a fantastic book!
Rating: Summary: My Own Two Feet A Review Review: My Own Two Feet Review This book is very interesting. It tells people about Beverly Bunn's (Cleary's) hard time getting through school, her marriage, and World War II. The story also tells about her disputes with her mother. I enjoyed that she told how she had gotten into writing and being a librarian. I also think it is interesting that she tells why she married, whom she married and whom she did not marry and why. I do not believe I disliked anything in this book besides it being around two hundred sixty pages long.
Rating: Summary: Beverly Cleary is a remarkable woman Review: This book was very well written. Beverly Cleary recounts with amazing detail her college education during the Depression. Beverly was determined to get her college education despite having no money and an extremely difficult mother. I had a hard time putting down this book and stayed late trying to finish it. A must for everybody -- kids and adults -- who grew up reading Beverly Cleary's wonderful books!
Rating: Summary: Highly enjoyable window to the past. Review: This is a terrific book. I particularly liked that so much of the story took place in places I am very familiar with, like Chaffee College in Ontario and UCBerkeley. The photos are fascinating too. This a wonderful book for anybody who has been a college student, or who wants to write, or who has had a difficult relationship with a parent. I thoroughly recommend it!

Rating: Summary: If you read Beverly Cleary as a child, read this Review: This is my favorite of all her books---I read it at 18, going off to college to major in creative writing, and was happy to relive her wonderful writing, observations, and characterizations. I reread this book when I need motivation and sympathy! Her memoirs read like a novel and are gripping and heart-warming. I reccommend it to everyone, from Ramona's age up.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful addition to Beverly Cleary's writing. Review: This is the second volume of Beverly Cleary's autobiographical
series. The picture of college life in the 30s evokes a time
that is lost to most people today. Such wonderful writing and honest, forthright expressions; too bad it ends.
