Rating: Summary: Great book Review: it just sucks you in, you cant put it down. a great weekend read
Rating: Summary: Not just a kid's book! This is a novel for everyone. Review: K.M. Peyton's writing, her characters, and her plots are spare and precise, riveting because they always seem real. Here, as in Peyton's other books, such as Darkling, The Team, and the as-yet-unpublished in the U.S. Small Gains (look for it on Amazon.co.uk!), the world of the book is far from easy. Tessa struggles with abandonment, abuse, and loss, but so do we all. Tessa and Buffoon make their way in life despite the difficulties, but there is never a rosy, pat ending in a Peyton book, and there is not one here.
I recommend this book for anyone wanting an excellent, thoughtful novel, and I hope that young readers will try it as well. It's truly wonderful!
Rating: Summary: An amazing tale of fate... Review: The fiction novel, Blind Beauty by K.M. Peyton, is an amazing tale of how fate brought together gangly and clumsy horse Buffoon, and rebellious teenage protagonist Tessa, to change the world of steeple chasing forever. When Tessa was a young girl, she lived on a farm with her mother Myra, her father Declan Blackthorn, and their wonderful broodmare, Shiner. Tessa loved Shiner like a sister. Unfortunately, Declan and Myra began to fight, and eventually divorced. Tessa never saw Declan or Shiner again. Tessa went into a deep depression. Things only got worse when her mother married a horrible, cruel rich man called Maurice Pleydell-Morrison who treated Myra like a dog and was just plain nasty to Tessa. Having been kicked out of every school in that region of Ireland for her behavioral problems, her new stepfather forced her to take a job at one of his racing stables to "earn her keep." Tessa was miserable. Just when Tessa thought things couldn't get any worse, life redeemed itself. An ugly klutz of a horse shows up. When his papers are delivered, she comes to find that the horse, Buffoon, is Shiner's boy. Tessa and Buffoon became the best of friends. They went through many ups and downs to escape the evil plots of Maurice, and to achieve their dream of winning the Grand National, the greatest steeplechase in the world. I discovered this book to be a wonderful story of love and determination, sure to touch the heart of any reader. Peyton's writing is so definitive and heartfelt. I could feel Tessa's sorrow of losing shiner, her rage at Maurice, and her love for Buffoon. This is a detailed account of how love can overcome any odds in the universe, and this novel is sure to be a favorite among horse lovers, but will over joy other readers as well. Filled with Tessa's pain and hatred, this story can be depressing, but in the end, her life is perfect. This story proves that impossibilities are just a myth. You will not finish this book empty-handed. I highly recommend Blind Beauty.
Rating: Summary: My favourite Book Review: This book is my altime favourite, because being a lover of horses I liked it that way as well as a lover of fiction stories that are about peoples lives being difficult, which tessa and Buffoon's definitely were. Reading this book was like being in a dream, I could imagine myself in the story watching it all happen, I read it non stop, in the car, walking down the road, at home and at school. An exciting book with many twists and turns, you never quite know what happens next. When I finished the book it was like coming to the end of my life, I cried when I finished it because I enjoyed it so much. When I did a book review on it for school and you had to give the book a rating out of 5, I gave it six with hearts all down the margin. I am ten, but this book will enhance a reader of any age, I can promise. I can tell you this is the most gripping book and will pull any reader into its traps and turns and you too will cry when it is finished because you won't find a better book anywhere. So take my advice (I promise it is true) and buy this book!

Rating: Summary: one of the greatest horse books I have ever read! Review: This book starts out with the main character, Tessa Blackthorn, being four years old in Ireland. Her father, Declan, bred his old mare Betty and she finally gave birth to a foal after three years of trying. The foal has no eyes. Tessa names the foal Shiner, and they are inseperable. Then, Tessa's mother, Myra, tells Tessa that she can't take this arguing anymore and they are leaving to England. Tessa is brokenhearted. When Tessa is five, Myra gets married to a greedy man named Maurice Morrison-Pleydell. He is a racehorse owner who only cares about how much money he gets from the bets. His appearance in Tessa's life throws her into a state of depression and hatred at the world. Myra and Maurice send Tessa to a bunch of different boarding schools, but she keeps getting kicked out. When she is twelve, they can't find any boarding school to take her to. So Maurice forces her to work in a small racehorse training stable called Sparrow's Wyck. At first Tessa hates working there, because Maurice is forcing her to. But then a horse arrives that will change her life forever. His name is Buffoon, and he is the son of Shiner. Nobody knows this except Tessa. Nobody especially cares about Buffoon besides Tessa because he is very ugly and unproportionate and no one thinks he will become a racehorse. But Tessa dreams of becoming a jockey and winning the Grand National on him. This story follows Tessa until she is 22. It is a story of suspense, action, greed and finding out who you are. If you are not much of a reader, don't be put off by the thickness of the book. This is definitley worth the read.
