Summary: good discription of the time period
Review: The book came alive to me because my grandfather was also 15 during this time period and left his home for the very same reasons (not enough to eat and a father that became increasingly angry at not being able to provide for his family). I think Irene Hunt did a great job at capturing the psychological state of people during the depression years. I found the book a good read. The middle part about the circus got a little dry and I didn't care for his awkward thoughts for Emily but other than that, it was good.

Summary: No Promises In The Wind, By: Irene Hunt
Review: This was an excellent book written by Irene Hunt. It was truly entertaining and a real page turner. The characters are superb and the plot is dynamic. This is the first book that I have read by Mrs. Hunt. It is about a boy named Joey and his brother who have decided to move out of their house and live on their own. The setting of this well written novel is in the depressing 1930's were food is scarce and jobs are minimum. Harry, who is Joey's friend decide to journey along with them. They embark on a hunt to try to survive by playing music which they are good at.

Many suprising elements arise in the story as an result. The three find it hard to live, they are own the street begging for money and they are trying to survive.

Luck turns when they find a job, and Joey meets a beautiful lady who is 30 and he is 15. Her name is Emily and she works as a clown at the circus, which is Joey's new job.

All in all, the story turns out magnificent as the climax at the end of the story begins to unfold. Truly a magnificent and entertaining account of Irene Hunt's wonderful writing skill's...

Summary: No Promises in the Wind
Review: I thought this book was wonderful. It was writen with wonderful style. It gave me a detailed look at the deprestion and what it was like. I had to read this book for school and then we had to write a review. This was the easiest book to write a review for. the words just came to me. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a book that is touching and fun.

Summary: No Promises in the Wind
Review: I disliked the book "No Promises in the Wind". It was about two kids, Josh and Joey, as they tried to live off the land during the Great Depression. I think it was way too unrealistic. Two kids who still had a roof over their heads and food to eat during that time period had it good, and would not be so foolish as to run away, even if they didn't like the way their father acted sometimes. It's not just that though. Josh and Joey ran into too much good luck. It seemed that every time they were hungry or in need of a job, something would happen and they would get what they needed. I think it is interesting reading about the Great Depression, but this story is just too unrealistic for that time period.

Summary: Four Stars From Memory
Review: I had to read this book for English class in seventh grade - about nineteen years ago! It was definitely the only assigned reading I deemed worthy of my time back then. It is one of those books with parts that linger in your mind forevermore. I am looking forward to reading it again - unforced and without a quiz afterward!

Summary: Eye opening look into the Great Depression
Review: I thought this was an excellent book! This book was about the great depression and how it affected the lives of the charcters. Josh and Joey are the main characters in this book. They leave home at very young ages because of the depravity around them. How difficult it must have been. Just realizing that these children were trying to to make their own way in the world was an eye opener. They encounter many difficulties and always look out for each other. Looking out for each other and love went a long way. I knew little about the depression, and since reading this book have developed a great sense of respect for any one who might have lived through it. I highly reccomend this book, not only for the history lesson but also because it keeps you glued to it from beginning to end.

Summary: Alright For Readers
Review: I had to read this book for school, and I REALLY like to read, so I enjoyed it. I personally read ahead of everyone else, and they're finishing up right now as I'm typing this. Though I enjoy reading, a lot of kids in my class don't, I think they found this book to be fairly boring. The book shows what it was like to live during the Depression very well. Howie getting killed by the train is just one example. That happened a lot during the Depression when people hopped trains, and a lot of times it was a kid that got killed. It shows a lot ot of detailed writing with the flash backs and the details of describing characters. The descripition about the rail-side towns towards the end of the book was also very detailed. The end makes you want to read a sequal, or an epiloge that describes what happens afterward.

Summary: I Sort Of Enjoyed this book
Review: This book was good. But some parts were streched out a little. We read this book in class and it took us about two and a half weeks to finish. I would recemend that you read this noval

Summary: one of the boringest books ever
Review: I have to read this book for school. The two kids always have a magical stroke of luck that gets them through the depression. The boys run away only because there father has a some-what of a bad attidute. This kid is totally stupid and unrealistic. Don't read this book unless you are forced to. Actually, don't even read it if you are forced to.

Summary: No Promises in the Wind- A great book
Review: I would just like to say that this is one of few books that I really enjoyed and never got tired of. It teaches you about life, and that even though there are lots of twists and turns down the road, you've always got to walk them one day. Also, I never really knew how hard the Great Depression was until I read this book, I thought that this book was very moving and can connect with people about facing there emotions.
