Summary: Lard love!?Love hard?!
Review: "Havd love" is a novel for a teenager. the author use an unblanced young boy's mind to show love, friendship and the relationship with parents for teenagers. I am impressed by the lesbian girl because she knows who she is and even though people around her don't accept this fact.(even her best friend did not in the beginning) I like it's setting in the real world, as this makes me feel familiar and I can see the author cares about teenagers and really wants to do something to help young adults to go through this period of growing up. This is a coming-of-age book for teenagers. I have seen books of this kind for little kids and for adults but only a few people write these books for teenagers. I will read her books and enjoy her satire again.

Summary: Amazing
Review: This book was absolutely wonderful. I really don't enjoy reading but I began reading this book and didn't stop until I finished. This book is good for mature teens. I'm 14, and like I said not a big reader but this book was amazing and I think that Ellen Wittlinger is a genius.

Summary: finally, some realness
Review: I have to admit, this attracted me because of the presentation of the text. (I don't judge a book by its cover, but it helps it the cover's nice. It attracts attention!) Thankfully, it went much deeper than that.

I read the book in one day, with classes interrupting my reading left and right. It's very interesting how the book is told from the point of view of a male, and how a strong lesbian is attracting to this male. The stories of the people around John, though they are not dived into, are just as interesting.

It was nice to find the ending quite realistic, although John gets a bit mushy. Come to think of it though, that's actually good--for a guy to face what he really feels, and think about it.

Overall, I encourage all teens to buy this book. (And a few adults, too, to keep up with what's going on inside out heads.) It's worth all 8 dollars.

Summary: Hard Love- Easy sentiment
Review: Well, this is definite biased opinion. I have read and re-read this book at least 11 times. I instantly loved it, it's easy to relate to as a teen who has divorced parents. The whole book is funny, had me laughing out loud, and crying like a baby. The storyline of a guy-meets girl and falls in love is not surprising, but the author adds a nice twist in the fact that the main character's first love is a lesbian. Everything about this book is good, except that fact that we are left at the end with the realization that Marisol will never love John in the same way he loves her, although it is obvious that they do have some kind of connection. I was so pleased with this book. It's not a typical story, but that's what keeps it interesting. The song at the end of the book fits the story, I wonder if she based the book on the song, or just wrote it and found out about the song later. I can't wait for the sequel.

Summary: Almost, but not quite
Review: Good story. A few great lines- "And I knew I'd have to pay for the lies sometime, mine and hers, small and white though they were." Main characters- very good, and I appreciated the use of a "zine" look. However, Wittlinger slipped up a bit in a few of the "hip" parts- Birdie, the gay male character, made me cringe (and I've hung with a few flamers in my time) and I found some of Marisol's wisdom a bit too New Agey for me. On one hand John, the narrator, was nicely sarcastic- but he was also almost sappy when it came to the "hippie town" at the end. But a good read- distracted me from a highly overdue paper.

Summary: Fast, Yet Amazing, Read
Review: I read this book in a few days. School started or else I probably would have had it done in about one sitting. It was sort of slow at first, but as I got more and more into the book I just wanted to know more about those people. It's one of those books that ends when you don't want it to as well. I wanted to keep going and learn more about Gio and Marisol. It was and excellent book. I loved the zine articles that were thrown in there in various places and the fact that they went to see Ani Difranco!!! The best part is the song at the end. I was reading in class and wanted to start crying. The song is something all people could relate to though. We've all had a "Hard Love"

Summary: pretty splendid
Review: I read this book on a road trip with my family, and it did keep me amused. It's a good book for older teens as well as younger teens. I found it funny and humorous as this boy discovers who he really is and that love can come in the weirdest places. I found it a little offbeat and not the typical norm teen novel.
