Rating: Summary: Chrestomanci triumphs! Review: This book is wonderful! It is basically two books in one, which is great because the two stories go very well together and right after you finish the first, you'll want to start the second."Charmed Life" is about a boy called Cat, or more formally Eric, who becomes an orphan when his parents drown in a boat accident. His older sister, Gwendolen, is a witch, and when the two move in with their neighbor, Gwendolen begins to take magic lessons. Cat has no magic at all, and is often pushed out of the spotlight by Gwendolen. Then they go to live at Chrestomanci Castle, home to the great enchanter Chrestomanci. After waging a private war on Chrestomanci, Gwendolen jumps into another world and leaves a double with Cat. Cat and Gwendolen's double have to figure out how to save Chrestomanci and the magical community when Gwendolen and her friends on Coven Street try to take over. "The Lives of Christopher Chant" is about the present Chrestomanci in Cat's time 25 years earlier. This gives you some background on Chrestomanci and is even better than the first book. Christopher Chant is a spirit traveler who can bring things back from his travels and is quite solid on his travels, and this has never happened before. Christopher's Uncle Ralph sees a neat way to exploit him and has him carry back tremendously expensive and rare items such as dragon's blood back from other worlds. It all ends up great. I would recommend both of these books very highly.
Rating: Summary: The Chronicles of Chrestomanci v.1 Review: This book was great! My favorite story in it was THE LIVES OF CHRISTOFER CHANT , but I liked CHARMED LIFE to. I recomend it for fans of sorcerery + magic. Diana W. Jones can realy bring magic to life.
Rating: Summary: The Chronicles of Chrestomanci Review: These books, "Charmed Life" and "The Lives of Christopher Chant" were wonderful. The writing is powerful, yet simple and easy to read. The plots are engaging and the characters are well drawn. Overall, a nice series for people who like fantasy books. I recommend them.
Rating: Summary: Harry Sustenance Review: The words at the bottom of the cover sum up this book entirely, "Mad about Harry? Try Diana." If you are an avid Harry Potter fan, as I am, and are longing for the next to come out, this is a very good sustainer until then. Though I felt this book was written at a slightly younger projected reader than Harry Potter, it is still a marvelous book for all ages to read. Readers will be fascinated by the developing tales of two young enchanters destined to be the next Chrestomanci. Their tales entertwine slightly, yet each has entirely different circumstances by which they learn of their destiny. This book should easily entertain all who read it and is destined to become an instant classic.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: This is one of the best series i have read in my whole entire life. great for all ages. The first is about a young boy, who lives in a world where whitches and humans live together. The young boy is Cat Chant. Cat's parent died and he clings to his sister, Gwendolen for protection. Cat is to be the next Chrestomanci, because he has 9 lives. The second is about the Chrestomanci before Cat, and how he lost most of his 9 lives. Both are thrilling tales, and so are the series, The Magicians of Caprona and Witch Week. I suggest you read them all
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I have ever read. Review: The Chronicles of Chrestomanci is a fast moving, intriguing tale. Cleverly written in two stories, Charmed Life takes place later in the time line that Christopher Chant, so the questions you had about the first one are answered in the second. This book is like Harry Potter because of its interesting characters and distinct British writing Style. It is also appropriate for all ages, and would keep a small child or an adult interested. It takes place in an alternated world that is similar to ours, but magic. This makes it fun, because you can relate to things in it. If you are looking for a good fantasy, I would definately read this!
Rating: Summary: A Very Good Book Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was written very well, and both the stories had interesting plots. The first story, Charmed Life, was about how a boy named Cat goes to live at the Chrestomanci Castle with his sister after his parents died. His sister, Gwendolen, is a witch, and uses magic to try to get Chrestomanci to notice her. When he doesn't, she runs away to another world. The second story, The Lives of Christopher Chant, takes place about twenty-five years before Charmed Life, and tells about Chrestomanci when he was a boy. Christopher can travel to other worlds in his dreams, and can bring back objects. His Uncle Ralph decides to perform experiments on him. Both of the stories were excellant. I would reccomend this book to anybody who likes fantasy.
Rating: Summary: A Stunning Piece By Diana Wynne Jones Review: Beautifully crafted in every way; Miss. Jones has created yet another enchanting world, where reality gets a run for its money. It is easy to get lost in the charming mood of this book, and should keep you captivated until the last word--at that point you'll need to plan an emergency trip to the library to get the next book in the Quartet. Simply wonderful!
