Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This book identifies you with Jews during the holocaust
Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. It lets you see first hand what world war 2 was like for a young girl. I almost felt like I was there myself. It shows that it doesn't matter who you are, that everyone suffers and everyone deserves a chance to live. I recommend this to anyone who's interested in the holocaust or anyone who likes a good book.

Summary: this novel is about jews and germans that don't get alone
Review: this novel is very interesting because it is talking about how people hated each other and treated them bad because they were a different race. they didn't just do this to adults but teens and young children.i really enjoyed this book

Summary: One of the best books I have ever read.
Review: If I Shall Die Before I Wake is one of the best books I have ever read. It told the truth of what really happened to the Jews. It also gave you a look at the Nazi's side of the story, which most books don't do. I cried when I read this book and it really touched me deeply. I felt sorry for the girl in the book, haveing all these feelings and not really being able to express them. When you read it you will feel as if you really knew this girl. I recomend this book to everyone and I hope you enjoy reading it.

Summary: One of the best YA books on the subject
Review: Hilary, a member of a neo-Nazi group, is hospitalized after a motercycle accident. While in a comotose state, she is transported back to Poland in the 1940's and into the life of a Jewish teenage named Chana. Hilary's experiences (through Chana) in a ghetto and concentration lead her to greater understanding of the people around her in both the past and the present.

I first found this book while searching for titles for a WWII unit for my eighth grade English students. It became the most popular book in the unit. My students and I like this book both because of the detailed descriptions of WWII Poland and because of the connection with life in 1990's USA.

The language in the book, while graphic, is also very moving. This is a book that stays with you long after you read the last page

Summary: My New Favorite Book
Review: "If I Should Die Before I Wake" is now by far my favorite book. It is a sentimental story about a 16-year-old neo-nazi named Hilary and how her life crosses paths with the life of a young Jewish girl living in Europe during World War I named Chana. When Hilary gets in a car accident with her boyfriend Brad she finds herself in a coma at a Jewish hospital. As she struggles for her life she passes over from the views of her life to Chana's. As Chana, Hilary sees the many horrible and emotionally terrorizing things that the Nazis did to the Jews. Many of Chana's family members and friends are killed. This book gives a very descriptive, mind altering explanation of the concentration camps and the brutal deaths of the Jews. After seeing this Hilary realizes how wrong the Nazis were and changes her views about Jews. This book was very passionate and I recommend it for anyone who likes a good tearjerker because this book will definetly make you cry. Han Nolan did an excellent job of portraying the realities of the Holocaust.

Summary: Another Devil's Arithemtic
Review: As much as a person may say differently, this book basically follows the same plot and has the same point of view basically. Still a good book to read, but if you have read The Devil's Arithmetic youll probably only be disappointed.

Summary: If I Should Die Before I Wake
Review: I had some mixed feelings about this book. For one thing, I pretty much predicted the plot just from reading the back cover. Also, Nolan's language just didn't move me the way some authors can. That said, this is still an extraordinary book, and I know it would've amazed and inspired me had I read it at a younger age, back before I knew much about the Holocaust. So, if you are [or you know] a young adult reader with little knowledge of the Holocaust who might develop an interest in it, I'd certainly recommend this book.

Summary: well worth it
Review: My 11 yo daughter and I both read this book. It is a powerful treatise on our sometimes twisted perceptions of others and the shock of finding value where we thought there was none. Well written and hard to put down.
