Summary: Future TV Show
Review: I must admit, I was a little reluctant to check this book out of the library because it was in the young adult section. I thought I'd be reading something like a Judy Blume book. Fortunately, this novella was a wonderful, quick read (too quick--I wish it had been longer). Each character (Tyree, Lafayette and Charlie) was well-developed and dynamic. The story of these three young men trying to find their place in the world after their parents' deaths was believable and endearing (did I mention I actually cried while reading this?). I was very impressed with Ms. Woodson's work and I'm so excited to see the mini-series based on the book; it airs in February on The N and features some great actors. Both kids and adults can love this book.

Miracle's Boys
By: Jacqueline Woodson
Reviewed By: Nate Calloway

Have you ever had both of your parents die, and your older brother or sister had to take care of you? This book is the most down to earth and real book I have ever read. Miracle's Boys by Jacqueline Woodson take's you deep down inside the life and mind of a young teenager named Lafayette.

When Lafayette parent's die, his older brother Ty'ree makes a huge sacrifice for the good of his family. Ty'ree gives up the opportunity to go to college, to work full-time to support his two younger brothers. Thru a curious and smart boys eyes we see the troubles that he goes thru with his older brother Ty'ree and his troubled and hard-headed brother Charlie.

Jacqueline Woodson's novel Miracle's Boy's take's you deep inside the life and mind of Lafayette, the main character. For example there was a time when Lafayette asked his brother Ty'ree a question, How did mom and dad really die? He also had some questions in his mind. Why does Charlie hate me so much now? When did he become a stranger? These questions that Lafayette has shows that he cares about his family, and he also cares about how Charlie treats him deep-down inside his heart. Or other wise he wouldn't have all these questions to show that he really cares about his family.

Miracle's Boys can really help family's that parents have died and teens that struggle a lot with different issue's. This book really made me appreciate the fact that I have parents and other family members who look out and support me to the fullest, because we can overcome our struggling together. This novel teaches you how to overcome issue's that are against you, if you stick together as one. If you read this book you will see that you can overcome obstacles with your family and it can bring peace to those who's parents have died.

Summary: Mircales Boys book review
Review: I found mircales boys written by Jacqueline Woodson to be an enchantingly epic drama. It is the tale of three underprivliged African American brothers living in a poor New York City apartnment. the brothers are struggling with the tramitic death of both there parents. Lafayette the youngest brother found his mother laying lifeless in her bed and since that day the middle brother Charlie has blamed him for not doing anything. Now it is Tyree the oldest brother who must support his two brothers by not going to college and working full time in a mail room. charlie was in a correctional facility at the time of his mothers death and has never been the same since he got out. Now he is a problem child and if he gets in trouble again Lafayette and himself will be forced to live in a foster home. the inevitable happens in the end and charlie is caught in a stolen car and Tyree has to go down to the police station and bail him out the cop let him off because it wasnt his fault. the next day seemed like the first day that the broters started to return to normal.

Review: I found this to be a powerful story. Woodson carefully unfurls the story of three brothers who must make a life together after losing both of their parents. The story takes place during a two day time period with flashbacks to bring us to the present. A must read for teens dealing with the death of a parent.

Summary: GREAT BOOK!!
Review: I think this a GREAT book for all ages. The boys have experienced and learn so much throughout the book. It is especially a good book for children that need to cope with the loss of a parent. It also helps people to understand the different situations and experiences different people go through, to become better aware of everyone's experiences. I really enjoyed reading this book and would have loved to read it when I was younger.

Its about three boys named Ty'ree, Charlie, and Lafayette, they lost their father when they were really young and then Charlie the second oldest boy got put away for three years in a correctional center for robbing a candy store, he was 12 years old. After third month that he was gone their mother died and Charlie blamed it on Lafayette. Summary: Miracle's Boys
Review: In the book Miracle's Boys Lafayette, Charlie, and Ty'ree are three brothers living together. Two years ago Lafayette was watching TV on the couch when he saw his mother collapse to the ground. She later died in the hospital. When this happened Charlie was in a place called Rahway. It's where people go if they are too young for jail. Before he went to Rahway he was happy and really emotional. Ever since he got back him and Laffayette can't get along at all. Also, now Lafayette calls him New Charlie because he has changed so much. He's out at night now and isn't emotional at all anymore.
Ty'ree is pretty much the father figure for Charlie and Lafayette. He pays the rent and buys the food for them. Their father died earlier before their mother. Though when he died Lafayette was still in his mother's stomach. She hadn't had him yet. In the book Lafayette is trying to find his spot in the family.
I think Jacqueline Woodson did a wonderful job describing and getting inside the characters thoughts and points of views. He made each chapter about someone else, which I liked. He could have told about Charlie a little more, though. I needed to know more about his backround. Jacqueline Woodson and the Miracle's Boys are in my top ten favorite books!

Summary: Very beautiful.
Review: Lafayette never got a chance to meet his father; his dad died before Lafayette was even born. Though he misses having a dad to do boy stuff with, Lafayette didn't know the man enough to miss him personally. When his mother dies, though, Lafayette is crushed. He misses her terribly --- every day, with every thought.

Lafayette's oldest brother Ty'ree misses their mother just as much. With both parents gone, Ty'ree is now responsible raising Laf and also looking out for middle brother Charlie who has just returned from doing time in a juvenile detention center. In addition to being full of sorrow, Ty'ree is bitter: If he didn't have to look after his younger brothers, Ty'ree would have been able to attend college. Now, he works like a dog in the mailroom for a big company and is tired all the time from trying to make ends meet. Laf tries not to ask too many questions, or cry too much, or to want things they can't afford. On top of it all, Charlie just keeps acting out and getting in trouble. If he caught by the police again, Charlie and Laf will be made wards of the court.

Author Woodson has a wonderful talent for writing about kids in tough situations. You really understand how someone in Laf's position might feel. This is a touching novel about a family trying to stay afloat through some really hard times. Their mother, whose name was Milagro, (Miracle in Spanish) was the center of the family and held them together. Now they must rely on each other while learning to deal with the death of their mother. They already got their one miracle --- can they stick together without one?

This is a quiet novel that you can read quickly. All the action takes place in one day, but it never feels hurried or too busy. If you are looking for a book that makes violence, gang life, and fighting brothers seem dramatic or glamorous, this is not the book for you. But if you want to read a realistic story about how these elements of urban life affect a small, loving family, try reading MIRACLE'S BOYS. Laf has tremendous reserves of kindness and love, and the bravery to show his emotions when he feels them. This whole novel is sometimes very sad, but it ends on a hopeful note. And as is usual with this author's work, it's also very beautiful.

Summary: Miracle Boys Review by Terry Haugen
Review: Miracle Boys by Jacqueline Woodson. G.P. Putnam's Sons. 2000.133 pages. ( 0-399-23113-7 )
Miracle Boys begins with a sense of similarity to other teen books from the past but turns into a very lyrical story about three boys who have lost their mother to diabetes. Lafayette, a twelve-year-old, Puerto Rican boy suffers because his brother, Charlie, treats him miserably since returning from Rahway, a detention center for wayward youth. Charlie blames Lafayette for his mother's death. A soul-searching conversation with older brother, Ty'ree, reveals truths that help heal this sadly broken family. Compassionate and heart-rending writing make this a quick read for all.
