Rating: Summary: FINE PERFORMANCE OF THIS HAPPILY-EVER-AFTER Review:
Want a little romance in your life? Do you have a yen for happy-ever-afters? Then lend an ear to "Nicola and the Viscount" as stunningly read by Amanda Root. Having shared the stage with such luminaries as Joan Plowright, Glenda Jackson and Ralph Fiennes, Root has an outstanding background. She's well known to BBC audiences and delivers a blockbuster performance in this reading of Nicola and the Viscount.
Raised as an orphan, Nicola longs for love, true and lasting love. She believes she's found it with an incredibly good looking viscount, Lord Sebastian. Surely, she dreams he will soon propose. Well, her dream may come true but there are also clouds on the horizon in the form of hints from Nathaniel that her viscount might not be all that he appears or claims to be.
Of course, Nicola is infuriated by such disparaging remarks, but she's also curious. You know what curiosity did to the cat - will it also kill Nicola's romance?

Rating: Summary: Best Book in the Avon True Romance Series Review: "Nicola and the Viscount" is the perfect romance because it's believable! None of this "She was so utterly and devastatingly gorgeous that men fell into states of dilerium after being blinded by her radiance...," junk that begins the cliche romances that litter bookstore shelves. I loved this book because the heroine is a real girl - she's not perfect. The things Nicola says are things me and my friends would say. For example, Nicola insists Lord Bartholemew (sp?) is everything that is wonderful and great... never mind that she's never really talked to him before! I mean, honestly, don't most girls have infatuations with some guy they really don't know, and they idolize this guy in hopes that what's inside the head looks as good as what's on the face... Nicola is a very lovable heroine!
Rating: Summary: Not Quite Like Any Regency Romance Review: A fan of Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries, I expected to get the same or similar type of writing or style in Meg Cabot's other teen romances. But this is like reading a book by someone else. It doesn't have the bite or wit of the Princess Diaries, and sounds like any of the many regency romance novels sold at supermarkets. I hate to feel this way about any of Meg Cabot's books, but even as a regency novel for teens, it was not as good as other regency novels.
Rating: Summary: Frothy. Like chiffon. Review: Before I begin, I'd like to say that I LIKE THIS BOOK. Reading over what I've said, it sounds very patronising, but I'm a big Cabot fan. Love 'The Princess Diaries' 1-3. Was a little disappointed in the 4th, yes, but despite tone, I really do like the book. OK, I'll begin: I almost enjoyed 'The Princess Diaries: Mia goes Fourth'. 'All-American Girl' was disappointing. Luckily, Cabot almost simaltaneously releases a delightful bit of froth that does exactly what it tells you it will. A book cited as 'teen historical romance' isn't expected to be very deep, and because it's 'teen' there's got to be quite a few less 'heaving bosoms' etc than adult romance. The 'historical' part is a bit of a laugh. A nod to London society and a little history of the train is meant to warrant this at a guess. The romance is quite, quite charming, being quite, quite light and quite, quite predictable, which is always comforting. The plot is rather incredible (in the sense that it's not believable), although Cabot paints a mean hunk. Her male protagonists are droolworthy to say the least. Her main character, Nicola, is meant to appeal to us as the intelligent bimbo type, but is - generally speaking - just annoying. You get that though, and overall, this is a charming bit of froth that doesn't pretend to be anything else. Refreshing. If you want something heavier, try 'Les Liasons Dangereaux'. Or chocolate cake. Mmmmm. Chocolate. ...
Rating: Summary: Not Cabot's Best, but Not Bad Either Review: Being a huge fan of Cabot's other books (The Princess Diaries, 1-800-Where-R-U, and the Mediator - both written under pseudonames), I was tempted to check this one out too. It isn't as great as her other books, because of it's setting (1810, London) it lacks Meg's funny, pointed sarcasm.Nicola Sparks is an orphan, but she thinks it's okay (because she never met her parents, she can't feel as bad about missing them, as she puts it). Her and her best friend Elenor both think Lord Sebastian "The God" is dashing, and Nicola gets to meet him during a stay at his familys house. Soon enough, Nicola and Sebastian are head over heels in love. But Nathaniel, Elenor's brother, feels that he's up to no good, and tells Nicola so. Even though she doesn't believe him, she checks things out for herself, and sure enough, he isn't who she thought he was. This book's good, but I recommend The Princess Diaries or When Lightning Strikes more than this book.
Rating: Summary: Really romantic story with a twist Review: I love the Princee Diaries series very much and I have read all of them (volume I to IV and The Princess Lessons. At first I found this book Nicola and the Viscount boring and stopped reading it, but after reading others' reviews about how good it is, I started to read it again. Then I got so involved into the story that I had to finish it at once(in one day)! It's quite different from the style of writing in The Princess Diaries, because Meg Cabot used more difficult words in this book but not writing in English and slangs in a diary style. I don't think Nicola is 'annoying', she is a quite intelligent lady indeed! I think girls can relate to her because most girls like to romantizise love like Nicola does. She finally realizes that the very handsome guy she has a crush on is not her true love, but should be an other guy she really loves. The climax is a twist because I didn't think the 'God' is so shallow, although he is so gorgeous and always talks honey to Nicky. He really disappointed me. I would like to read Victoria and the Rouge too but I couldn't see it in the book shop! And I am looking forward to the new Princess Diaries book which should come out in July ! I strongly recommend you to read The Princess Diaries series and Nicola and the Viscount! The latest one is called The Princess Lessons, which is quite interesting and you can actually learn how to be a princess.(princesslike lady) I hope you find my review helpful!
Rating: Summary: Nicola and the Viscount Review: I loved Nicola and the viscount! it was totally believable and enjoyable. It all starts when Nicola Sparks, an orphan, goes to live with the Bartolomew's. SHe already has her heart set on Lord Sebastian Bartolomew, for whom she wants to marry. But Nathaniel Sheridan, her friend Eleanor's elder brother, warns her that Lord Sebastian is not all he seems. So Nicola does a little investigating. When her uncle, the Grouser (as Nicola and Eleanor call him), wants to run a train through her home, the abbey, and his son, The Milkstop (as Nicola and Eleanor call him) offers a proposal of marriage to Nicola. Then Nicola searches around Lord Sebastian's dad's desk and finds more papers about the railway. Will she marry Lord Sebastian, her idea of the GOD, and let the railway pass or follow her heart? Read the book to find out! I highly recommend it! If you love Meg Cabot or the Princess Diaries read the book.
Rating: Summary: Great ! Review: I loved Nicola and the Viscount. Meg Cabot did a great job through and through. Nicola Sparks is a spunky orphan engaged to a god, Lord Sebastian. Lord Sebastian is very handsome and Nicola has dreamed of marrying him for so long, now she is going to !! Then a very good friend, Nathaniel Sheridan, begins to hint to Nicola that Lord Sebastian is not the perfect god she always dreamt he would be. After a horrying discovery, Nicola is unsure of what to do. Marry Lord Sebastian? Break the engagement? Run away? You must read this book to find out, its a great addition to Avon Romance!
Rating: Summary: Not one of the best Review: I recently got interested in Avon True Romance books by my best friend, who's quite a romantic. She recommended me Anna and the Duke, Emily and the Scot, and Victoria and the Rogue. I bought this book because, when I read the back, it sounded quite good and also because it is written by Meg Cabot, author of the Princess Diaries series and Victoria and the Rogue. I personally thought that Victoria and the Rogue was one of the best books in the Avon True Romance series thus far, and because Meg Cabot is such a great writer I thought Nicola and the Viscount would be a good read, too. I was wrong. Nicola did not have a personality whatsoever, and the plot wasn't as good as Victoria and the Rogue. However, you may think otherwise. Buy Nicola and the Viscount (if you have not already done so) and read for yourself. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Ummmm.... Review: I was really disappointed with this MC book. I loved all her other books. And I love historical romances. So naturally I was thrilled to her about this book. 1st: Nicola is annoying 2nd: She's always romantisizing 3rd: I felt that this book had no real depth to it. Oh, well!
