Rating: Summary: a great book Review: I have absolutely no clue as to why others are so reluctant to give this book 5 stars; it definitely deserves it. Contrary to some other reviews, I really liked it, better than Homecoming. The only problem I had with "The Runner" was that I read it during finals and couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: Among the best books I've read Review: I have read many many books by Ms. Voigt. She is a very complex writer. It's obvious that she's experienced some of the things she writes about herself. She doesn't write with the viewpoint of many authors, treating kids like they have more to learn. Her main characters are almost always kids, and she simply tells things through the character's eyes, not her own eyes. I love this book, and all the others. However, I suggest reading Homecoming, Dicey's Song, and A Solitary Blue before taking on this one.
Rating: Summary: LOVE IT! Review: I have read many many books by Ms. Voigt. She is a very complex writer. It's obvious that she's experienced some of the things she writes about herself. Rating: Summary: another great tillerman book Review: I read the book after having read Homecoming and Dicey's Song, and I loved it, too. It's great to see how Grandmother was when she was younger, and how Liza was, and most of all, Bullet Tillerman is a very good main character. He's not that likeable, however, but with a family like that you can't really blame him. He's like a more extreme version of Dicey, not wanting to have any friends, not caring about school or politics, just wanting to be left alone. Again, that's a great book. Homecoming is slightly better but not much, and you should read both.
Rating: Summary: review on the runner Review: I think this book did a great job showing the way a person reacts to things in there life. Bullet shows us how boxing a person in will only cause them to drift farther away. It did a good job of showing how Bullet wasen't sure how he was going to get out of his house, but he knew he would. He used running as away to escape many of the things that bothered him. Bullet soon would see war as his way out of the controling house his father ran. He watched his brother and sister leave, he saw no reason to why he couldn't do the same. Bullet was a strong and independent boy, and he died trying to gain more. From his father and i think from life in general. i don't think he liked many things in his life. the war seemed like away to escape that life and start a new.
Rating: Summary: the book Review: i thought it was a good book and it was educational book i could not put the book down but the end was pretty different so i would not read it again so yeah
Rating: Summary: The Runner Review: I thought that Cynthia Voigt did a very good job of showing how any normal teenager would act during the mid 1960's. She showed how the predigest of the blacks at that time. She made bullet seam one thing but when he was really a combination of many different groups. The reason that I did not rate this book higher than I did was that to me this book was very hard to read. I had trouble trying to understand what was happening. Over all I think I got the idea, this book was trying to get across. I would tell everyone to at least give this book a chance.
Rating: Summary: The Runner Review: I thought that the book The Runner was a exelent book. I couldnt put the book down. It was good to see Bullet over come all the obsticles that he faced. It was a great book the whole way threw and the ending was somthing you didnt expect but it was good.
Rating: Summary: the runner Review: I thought the runner was an alright novel. Cynthia Voigt is a good author but this book was hard for me to understand. Due to the fact that you have to be in bullets position. I personally can not put my self in his position so I was confused. But even though it confused me she did a good job writng it. It is a book for people that can put themselves in oter peoples position. If there is any body that can do that than I would highly suggest to read this book.
Rating: Summary: First read it in junior high Review: I was about twelve when I first read this book. At the time it was very confusing and seemed really stupid to me. Now, I'm in college and I've read it again and again. I never figured out why it was essential to the Tillerman series, but it was good to learn about Dicey's grandmother when she had her family. Now, a reader can see that there was someone who knew about Liza and Dicey living on Cape Cod. I was proud of Bullet for not telling his brutal father about Liza's whereabouts. Like I said, it seemed really stupid when I was twelve, but now that I'm older, I really appreciate it.
