Summary: BORING - for adults only! ...
Review: I usually like books by Gary Paulsen, for example the Hatchet, but I thought The Island was very boring. Wil Neuton moves to a new town and explores an island. The reason I thought it was so boring is because all he did was sit there and stare at different animals and then write about them. There was never anything interesting in it at all.

I think this book should be read by adults. This was definitely not meant for children!

Summary: IN TOUCH WITH THE NATURE.
Review: IMAGINE HAVING A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN RELAX AND GET OUT OF TROUBLE. THIS HAPPENED TO A FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD BOY, WIL. HIS FATHER WORKS FOR THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT AND THE COMPANY OFFERED A NEW JOB OUTSIDE OF THE CITY. HE ACCEPTS IT. ONE DAY WIL WAS RIDING ON HIS BICYCLE WHEN HE SAW A ISLAND THAT WAS LIKE A MAGNET TRYING TO ATTRACT HIM TO IT. HE FINALLY GOES TO THE ISLAND HE RELAXES, PAINTS, AND WRITE ABOUT NATURE THE MOVEMENTS OF THE ANIMALS AND FILLINGS.

IM A GARY PAULSEN FAN BUT I THINK THAT THIS IS NOT ONE OF HIS BEST WRITTEN BOOKS. I SPECIALLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE NATURE AND THE POWERFUL AND COLORFUL, PAULSEN WRITING.

Summary: Just might be the best book I've ever read
Review: The Island is a great story and it has more meaning to it than most books do. Wil Neuton's parents aren't getting along that great and they just moved to a new neighborhood and it might not be the last time they move. Wil befriends a girl before he takes a trip to the island and they become real close, but don't get me wrong, that's only a small part of the story. The main theme about the story is Wil finding an island a piece from his family's new house and becoming instantly attached to it. Wil likes the island because it gets him away from all the tension of his parents' fighting and the bullies. While there, he discovers himself a lot more and also many things about nature. He writes about and paints many scenes from the island.

For some reason, this island is nothing like any place he's ever seen before. The birds, fish, and everything about it are so good that they're beyond describing. But the best part about it is that it is real peaceful on the island. He does have some visitors from time to time. The girl he met comes to see him and lets him know what's happening around the house and especially some information on what the town bully who likes to beat up all new visitors is saying. Yes, the bully eventually comes to take a visit and have a little fight. But most important of all, Wil goes home one day and tells his parents about the island and tells them he wants to stay there indefinitely. His parents are worried so they hire a psychologist to interview Wil on the island.

All in all, The Island is in my opinion the best Gary Paulsen book I've read so far and one of the best books I've ever read period. Going through a divorce when I was 8 and now still seeing my mom suffer from my abusive stepdad, I understood why Wil would want to go to an island to get away from all the turmoil. I think everybody wishes they could just be alone and away from all the troubles in their life from time to time. After reading The Island, you'll wish you had your own island to go stay on. The Island tells a great story all the way through. If you're a nature lover, it'll be even better. It's hard to believe that a book this great is so cheap, I recommend everyone to buy it no matter what the price is.

Summary: A story in a story
Review: The Island, is mainly about 15 yr. old Wil's observations on the island. Wil's family, consisting of him and his parents move from Wisconsin to Minnesota because of his father's job. Wil goes out biking 1 morning which is when he first discovers the island, and 1 of his only friends in Munnesota, Susan. The book follows with Wil continuly going to the island and seeing Susan. This book is kind of like a story in a story because even thoug it was written by Gary Paulsen, there are little paragraphs at the beginning of each chapter that are supposedly written by Wil, also as he starts spending more time on the island, he writes storys about things that he sees, and that can get kind of boring. All in all this book has many insights on nature, but lacks the excitment that books like Hatchet, and The River have.

Summary: The Island is a enjoyable, but slow book about nature
Review: The Island

This book is written by Gary Paulsen. He is an award winning author who has written many adventure books such as Hatchet and The Winter Room . The majority of his books are written for people who love adventure and nature. The Island is a 202 page book that shows the magic of nature. From the patient and cunning heron to the busy ant-hill, the reader understands why the main character wants to stay on the island indefinitely. In The Island the main character, Wil, and his family move to a town near Pinewood, Wisconsin because of Wil's father's job. Wil finds an uninhabitable island in the middle of Sucker Lake and decides to stay there for a while. Wil likes to study the different animals and clear his mind to write about memorable times in his life. After his encounter on the island Wil, meets a girl named Susan and builds a strong friendship with her. As he visits the island more frequently, his parents think that Wil has gone crazy and needs help, but Wil doesn't think so. Mean while Wil confronts Ray Bunner, the bully. How can Wil handle the real world and enjoy his fantasy life on the island? This interesting book on nature gives a complex insight of the world around us . Understanding things for what they really are and concentrating on the intricate visions of memories makes this book seem like a daydream. The Island lacks interest and action.

Summary: I liked this book even though it was a little slow moving.
Review: The setting is in the summertime. The protagonist, Wil Newton who is 15 years old has just moved to Minnesota from Wisconsin. Wil doesn't like the moved but to make matters worse his parents aren't getting along. Every morning Wil leaves home and goes to an island. On this island he watches the loons, and the fish. He also writes and paints. But Wil has a problem--Ray Bunner, the bully. Wil decides he wants to live indefinately on the island. Wils parents become concerned because they begin to think he is crazy. During his stay on the island Wil discovers two things: nature and himself. Paulsen may be a little slow moving in this book but I think he did a great job. There is a line in this book that I have thought about a lot and that is when Wil says "if I can learn a fish, I can learn my father." I recommend this book to people who don't want a lot of adventure and action but a book to learn important lessons.

Summary: A very entertaining and fruitful book
Review: This book was a wonderful book about a boy named Wil Neuton who lives in modern times, and anybody who has had to move to a different town due to the parent's job, can relate to him; I can. He moves to the country from the city, which is a huge change for him. He meets a girl named Susan, a boy named Ray Bunner what a bully, a strange man named Emil Acht, and finds an Island in the middle of Sucker Lake. Wil goes out to the Island more and more, and keeps learning things about nature, his new home, the lake, the island, his family, and himself. Soon he starts camping and refuses to leave until he is finished. Ray Bunner comes and Wil beat him up in a fight. Susan visits almost every day, and she brings him food, pencils, and paint. He writes and paints of many things, and finds the island as a paradise. News spreads of him, a reporter for a newspaper comes, and soon even some TV news reporters come. His parents don't understand and Wil thinks that they never will, and they send a shrink to help him and he doesn't understand any more than his parents do. Then his parents see the newspaper, and all of the things he wrote and painted, and the his he brings his father up to the island, and they talk for a while, and the book slowly ends. I would definently recomend this book to any body that likes Gary Paulson's books and is in tune with nature. It will make you laugh, it won't let you set it down, and I hope you enjoy it just as much as I did.

Summary: The Island, A Great Book
Review: This book was very well written, I'm not finished with the book; but so far it is very intruiging. Gary Paulsen is a very distinguished author who has written other superb books such as the car, hatchet, dogsong, etc. I hope the end is as good as the beginning of the book.
