Summary: There's a girl in my hammerlock
Review: I enjoyed this book and even went back to read it a few more times. This was a few years ago, and now I foud this site because I was looking for it again. I hope that every girl gets a chance to read this book at some point because it deals with the real consequenses of taking a risk. The main character is a strong girl who is able to stand the ridicule of her teamates and eventually earn their respect. The book is also about changing friendships. Although she loses an old friend she gains two new ones. I am not a sports person, and I never have been, but I loved this book because it was not only about sports, but about people.

Summary: It depressed and imbarressed me.
Review: I gave this book only two stars because it depressed me, It made me feel like if you are brave enough to try something new, then only negative cosequences occur. Well I have to admit she did strengthen her relationship with her mother which is more important than losing the people you thought were your friends. But it is extremly depressing.

Summary: 2 thumbs up to Spinelli!
Review: I read this book soley for the reason I needed someone to related to. I'm a female wrestler (last year was my first year) and I was never so happy as when I found this book! It was such a great book! It dealt with the real problems of a young teen, without getting to soap oprahish... I recommend all young girls and guys read this book. It kind of helps put an end to stereotypes.

Summary: Suprisingly touching reading aimed at preteens
Review: I read this several years ago, and I still regard Maisie Potter as one of the best female protagonists of our time. She is deliciously defiant, taking on her school, the boys, the town, and even other towns as well. With memorable characters including a sleepover-ready mom and Bernadette the Rat, There's a Girl in my Hammerlock is wrought with truly exceptional writing that is paradoxically accessible to the kids' reading levels. Parents should definitely grab this book when their kids aren't looking and give it a read too. True to life, and not always happy. Really solid stuff.

Summary: HAMMERLOCK
Review: I thought this wasn't really that good of a book because it was boring. It was about a girl wrestling on a boys team. I'm a 12 year old boy and I don't like wrestling. The only reason I read this book is because my teacher made me.

Summary: There's a girl in my hammerlock
Review: In the book There's a Girl in my Hammerlock, a girl wants to go out for the wrestling team. Her teammates make fun of her and treat her extremely badly at first. Then toward the end of the book she gains the respect of her teammates, and makes lots of new friends. It is a good book except that in my opinion, a woman would rather read this book over a man. I say that because the book deals with women's rights. A women would like to read about a girl beating all odds in my opinion, and a guy would rather read about an exciting book about murder or something like that...

Summary: There's a Girl in my Hammerlock
Review: In There's a Girl in my Hammerlock, many exciting things happen. First, Maisie Potter tries out for the cheer squad because Liz's boyfriend, Eric is in a way part of it. Maisie wants to get closer to him. Then she finds out that he is on the wrestling team so she tries out too. She gets embarrassed, and worse she has to do monkey rolls by herself. She gets tortured, kissed and wins her first wrestling match. I would reccomend this book to anybody who likes page turners.

Summary: Theres a girl in my hammerlock
Review: Maisie is an 8th grader in Jr. High, she realizes that she has a cruch on one of the most athletic boys in her grade. So to get him to notice her she decides to cheer for him, but when that doesn't work out she decides to join him in playing one of his sports. Therefore, Maisie tries out for wrestling. But is she really cut out for all the pain, both phyically and emotionally, that will come out from wrestling? I liked this book because it was different from the types of book today. Although it was about something that would never happen to me, it gave me an insight to how some people look at girls v. boys.

Summary: there's a girl in my hammerlock
Review: Maisie Potter starts out for cheerleading try outs. The coach says that she wasn't stiff enough. Maisie decides that her toughness can work on the wrestling team. She makes the team. There is a guy on the team that she likes. She also wins the championships. I GIVE MY BOOK A FOUR STAR RECCOMENDATION. It was a realistic story that I believe any 14/15 year old girl can relate to. The plot was profoundly good. It shows what can happen when you stick with what you wanna do. Regardless of what anyone says.
