Rating: Summary: Dogsong Review: First off I recommend to never read this book because it is very bland and boring to me at least, I really despise books that are slow moving and there is not much suspense and excitement!! Un fortunately I had to read this book, but I don't want you to have to go through the misery of reading this book so am trying to write you a good excuse not to read it. 1st part This book takes place in a modern Eskimo settlement and it is about a boy who lives with his dad, and one day he has a feeling that something is amiss, so he goes to visit the wise old Eskimo called Oogruk. Oogruk tells the boy (Russel) about the old ways, and about the dogs, and about how everybody had a song. So Russel leaves with Oogruk's dogs and to see what it was like and to try to discover his song. This brings in the title of this book "Dogsong", and as you can guess Russel's song has to do with the dogs and his relationship with them. Later Russel moves in with Oogruk, and Oogruk thinks his time has come, so Russel and the dogs take Oogruk out to the ice and leaves him there to die. 2nd part Oogruk tells Russel that to discover himself he needs to leave the village and just run with the dogs for a long time. So Russel leaves with Oogruk's dogs and every time he falls asleep Russel has this dream of when he is older, and all of the things that he will have to deal with. So this haunts him the whole time he is traveling. Along his journey he finds a pregnant woman-girl who is about to die from freezing, and he realizes that this is the woman in the dream, and that he has to save her so she doesn't die like the woman in the dream. At this time Russel also realizes that he has come to a point in life that joins with the dream. Now Russel has discovered himself and is ready to come face-to-face with life. This is Russel's song: Dogsong Out before me They go, in the long line to sea. Out they go. Come, see my dogs. They carry me into all things, all things I will be; all things that will come to me will come my dogs. I stand on the earth and I sing. Come, see my dogs. See them, see them in the smoke of my life, in the eyes of my children, in the sound of my feet, in the dance of my words. I stand on earth and I sing. Come, see my dogs. My dogs are what lead me, they are what move me. See my dogs in the steam, in the steam of life. They are me. Come, see my dogs. I was nothing before them, no man and no wife. Without them, no life, no girl-woman breathing no song. Come, see my dogs. With them I ran, ran north to the sea. I stand by the sea and I sing. I sing of my huts and of Oogruk. Come, see my dogs. Out before me they go. Out before me they curve in the long line out before me they go, I go, we go. They are me. This song means a lot to Russel because not many people had songs when he was living. It is sort of his self-identity.
Rating: Summary: Dogsong by Gary Paulsen Review: Gary Paulsen has many very good books such as the hatchet series, but there is one very specific book he wrote that was really good it is called Dogsong. If you haven't read this book you are really missing out. It is about A guy named Russel that lives in the arctic he is just starting to live with a man named Oogruk who teaches him about how it used to be in the arctic. One day Oogruk tells him to take him out to the sea on a dogsled and asks him to leave him there to die, Oogruk also told him to go as far north as possible and make a song and live off the land, so he does as he is told and goes far far north and I can't tell you the rest of the book so you just have to read it.This is one of the very best books I ever read and I hope you have fun reading it

Rating: Summary: DogSong Review: A boy named Russel goes out to be a man. While he is on the journey, he has some dreams. The dreams are about a man and his family. While on his journey, he meets a girl named Nancy. Nancy is pregnant, when she has the baby, it is dead. I disliked this book because, all the chapters have the same name. Another reason I disliked this book was because I don't like survival stories. The reason I liked this story was because it was quite interesting. The part I liked the most was when Russel killed the bear. He took the lead dog offthe line to find the bear, then he let off all the other dogs. the dogs went running, then all of the dogs jumped on to the bear. Then the bear saw Russel, and wentfor him. Russel then shoved the killing lance through the bears neck, just before the bear fell he got Russel in the side of the face. I would not reccommend this book to someone. my reason is all the chapters have the same name. I personally don't like survival stories. I would also reccommend this book to someone. My reason is because many parts of the book where quite interesting.

Rating: Summary: DogSong Review: It was about Eskimos that live in a cold place. They use animal fur to keeep warm. Oogruk the main character is the only one that dogs. He is very wise so every one goes to him for advice. I didn't reallylike this book cause it was boring. I wasn't really into it. I didn't really know what they were talking about. The book needs more adventure. I didn't really like reading that they were eating raw meat. It was gorss reading how they describe a peice of raw meat. I didn't really like it cause we do stuff different. I wouldn't really get use to their lives. I didn't like the book. So why would any one else read it. I don't recommend this book cause if i'm not into it know one is. If people like this book then that's what they think. I don't like this book that's my opinion.
Rating: Summary: most boring book ever Review: The book Dogsong is about a boy named Russel, who wants to go out and see the world. He is trying to survive out in the middle of nowhere. Russel is also helping a pregnant girl and a team of dogs. He wants to be a man too, while he is out seeing the world. Towards the end of the book, he realizes that he should have gone back to his village. I hated this book, because it was very nasty. I don't like survival stories, and itd doesn't make sense at all! I didn' like the part where Russel's grandfather, Oogruk eats the eyeballs. I don't like the way they describe the part where Russel kills and eats the bear. When Russel urinates on the sled, they don't need to be so specific. The only part that is not too bad, is when the "woman-girl" gives birth to the dead baby. I would not reccommend this book to anybody, except for the prople who like survival books like this one. If I reccommended this book to any of my friends, thye would just say, "Oh, this book is boring, it doesn't make any sense at all, and it's nasty!" The only part I don't understand is Russel's dream. It doesn't make any sense.
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: Russel Susskit hate where he lived and his father tolf him to go visit Oogrukm the shaman. His father agrees to let him stay with Oogruk. As time passed Russel beacme fond ogf Oogruk's dogs. Oogruk and Russel set off with them and go onto the ice to catch seals. Oogruk tells Russel to leave because it was his time to go and to set on towards a journey. On his way North he finds hardships like, no food and letting the dogs starve, plus storms. He has weird dreams on his journey and learns many songs. Three reasons why I hated the book would be because it was boring. There was nothing really interesting about it. I was mostly confused because I would mix up when it was in a dream or back to the story. I fit were more exciting I think I would have liked it more. The part I hated most in the book was after alot of time Russel spent with Oogruk and the dogs, Oogruk asked if he could come along to help catch seals with Russel. Russel thought this was odd because all Oogruk does was, sit, sleep, and give advice because of old age. So he comes and then he tells Russel to go North and become "a man" and to do that would be to go see the world. Then Oogruk also tells him to leave him and let him die and at first Russel hesitated but then headed off. After two minutes Russel headed back and found Oogruk lying on the ice. Dead! It was shocking. I guess he did know when his time was about to end. I would not reccommend the people read this book because it was way confusing.Plus if you don't like books that are like "struggle to survive" books then this is not for you. It was an ok book but I have read a whole lot better...
