Summary: My Louisiana Sky
Review: My Louisiana Sky is a fantastic book! As you dive into the life of Tiger Ann Parker, you can fall in love with her and all of the other characters. The rich narrative Tiger gives allows us as readers to know what she is experiencing. Even greater, we grow with Tiger and her family through their struggles to find themselves. We find wonderful discoveries and life-long lessons through Tiger's eyes.
This compassionate and heartfelt book takes us through the story of Tiger Ann and her family. When we first meet Tiger she feels different from everyone else. She has not grown up in what others call a "normal" family. She is raised by her strong, independent grandmother who cares for Tiger and her parents, who are mentally slow. When Tiger's grandmother passes away, she is faced with many life-changing decisions. We are able to go through everything with Tiger Ann and watch her grow as a young adult. Most importantly, we are able to grow and find ourselves with Tiger.
This story is a great and enjoyable book that is highly recommended to young and older adults for so many reasons. The characters are rich, the southern setting is warm, and the plot is tremendous with appeal.

Summary: My Louisiana Sky
Review: My Louisiana Sky is a heart-felt drama that spotlights a young teenage girl who is faced with many life-changing decisions. These decisions cause Tiger Ann to mature into a young lady more quickly than she had planned. She is faced with an unusual family circumstance: a very strong, independent grandmother who carries on most of the responsibilities, and a mentally slow mother and father. Although the Father possesses many handicaps, he is a big help around the house; however, Tiger's mother depends on the Grandmother heavily. Tiger Ann's role in the family is reversed when the Grandmother is faced with sudden death. She must fill the shoes that her grandmother had once filled in order to keep her family together. Tiger Ann is torn between moving to Baton Rouge with her aunt and making a new life for herself, or staying in Saitter, LA to fulfill her obligation.
We highly recommend this book to junior high age students who are finding out who they are and who they want to become. The characters and setting draw you into this book as if you were actually there. My Louisiana Sky will surely tug at your heart, and the realness of the story will make any kid evaluate his or her own life decisions.

Summary: Her Shifting Sky
Review: My Louisiana Sky is a heartwarming story of acceptance and love. With each page I am intrigued by an influential message of family and strength. The author of this book made a superior choice of having a pair of mentally retarded parents intertwined with the rest of this powerful book. Without making the theme obvious, Kimberly Willis Holt, the author, created a book with a strong message for the reader to seek throughout the book.
In my opinion, the theme may be acceptance. Throughout the book, Holt reminds the reader, me, of Tiger, the main character, and her difficult life, living with mentally retarded parents. In Tiger's case, many of the dilemmas she faces involve embarrassment by her parents or the cruel work of supporting their household. Eventually Tiger learns the meaning of acceptance and learns to cope with her parents and their different learning ability.
Through the uneven and blissful times, Tiger is constantly looking for adventure. Through every problem and every consequence she seeks good, which makes the book exhilarating and gratifying. A pro of this book is that there are only three main turning points and a wonderful resolution. One of the three, and my favorite, is when Hurricane Audrey blows through Saitter, the small town in which Tiger Ann lives. At this point in the story, Tiger and her family sense that there will be a dramatic change in the weather. It so happens that they are absolutely right. A hurricane reaches their small town and destroys its surroundings but not its dignity. During the time of recovery, the town discovers a new hero and accepts this new hero and his differences.
Overall, this book is an inspiring tribute to accepting differences. Although this book was a bit under my reading level, it was intriguing and a wonderful read. Each exciting event made me anxious to read on and find the twists to the story. The author paints a wonderful picture of a small town girl living in an unaccepting world, trying to cope with her fears and the challenges that she faces.

Summary: My Louisiana Sky
Review: My Louisiana Sky is about an un-wealthy thirteen-year old girl named Tiger who has two 'slow' parents. Her grandmother lives with them but when the grandmother dies the family does not know what to do. I loved this book because it had so many cliffhangers it kept me thinking about the book even after I finished reading it. This book made me realize how lucky I am and it made me cry for Tiger and Tiger's mom. I do not know what I would do if anywhere I went I was paranoid of my parents making a fool out of me. Throughout the entire book I was scared Tiger would loose her relationship with her mom and dad. I was also scared Tiger would blow up at her mom, which she did a couple of times. I would recommend this book to all girls who feel bad for themselves. Maybe when they see how bad Tiger has it, they will see how lucky they are. I would also recommend this book to all tom-girls who are deciding on becoming one of the followers who follow the girly popular crowd, just like Tiger.

Summary: My Louisiana Sky
Review: My Louisiana Sky was a great book. I loved it. It was about a girl, Tiger Ann, who had parents who were mentaly ill. Her father had a low intelligence and her mother acted as if she was a six year old child. I felt really bad for tiger throughout the story because everybody in Saitter made fun of her and her parents. But I also felt bad for Tiger's mother,Corrina, when Tiger's grandmother died. What would Tiger do without a person to watch over her?! But then, Tiger's aunt gives her an offer for her to move to Baton Rouge with her. I'm glad that she didn't take this offer because her real family was in Siatter and her mother would be heart-broken if she left. But, the most touching part in the story was when Tiger's mother went out in the Hurricane to look for Tiger. It shows that Corrina really loved her daughter even though she was slaow. It was really sweet. I really liked this book and definintly give it 2 thumbs up. I recommend this book to everyone.

Summary: Her best book ever!!!
Review: My Louisiana Sky written by Kimberly Willis Holt is the best book of all time. One reason I love this book is that it takes place in the 1800`s. Almost everybody was poor and were called folk. This book is like a girl's fairy tale, except for the end. No one will want to read the end, but they have to because the agony is killing them. There is one more very important reason, the genre of this book is family. I have learned that family books are good to read not to mention safe. Here are a couple more reasons why you should read, My Louisiana Sky. It is like your life; neighbors, family of a mom, dad, grandma, and aunt. There is at least one television in each neighborhood. Every one in 1853 went to church every Sunday morning. Now in 2002, hardly any one goes to church. I really think that you should read this book. In all it's very educational, interesting, and entertaining, so I think that you and all your friends should read it. I'll be sure and tell all my friends about this book.

Summary: Great characters...
Review: My Lousiana Sky is a great book about a girl in the 1950's. Tiger Ann comes from an unusual family situation, and as she grows older, she has to decide what *she* wants out of life. This book was very entertaining and well-written, with strong characters and a good storyline! I'd recommend it for ages 10 and up.
