Rating: Summary: A Book Worth Reading Review: I loved this book so much. It was so wonderful, that I am begging Kimberly Willis Holt to write a sequel!
Rating: Summary: A heatwarming story Review: I loved this book! It's not really for people that like action packed storys but more for people that enjoy medium paced storys. I liked reading about the excitment of Tiger(Ann) When she visits her aunt. In the end Tiger learns faimly is the most important thing you've got.
Rating: Summary: Two Thumbs up for My Lousiana Sky Review: I rated Kimberly Willis Holt's My Lousiana Sky with four stars. The description of the scenes pulled me in, and I didn't want to leave again. I could feel the hot Lousiana sun on me as I floated down the river on a tube. I also felt like I was in excitment of the baseball game watching Tiger slide in for a homerun while Jesse Wade was cheering as he got ready for his turn to bat. The pain inside me was overwhelming when Tigers grandma died, and I was extremly suprised when I found out the real reason Tiger's mama is mentally challanged. The only problem with the novel is that it was very simple and did not make me think much. I would not recommond theis book to people who like to use their mind. Also, the problem Tiger's mom could really happen to somebody and it makes the story more realistic. I addition to that, I can realate with Aunt Dory Kay's guilt and realized why she moved away. This book was a fabulous type of realitic fiction and I would remond it to children of the ages 11-13 because the mechanics of the story were for that age group. Also, the main character was of that age group; as a result, it made it easier for me to understand the events she was going through. All-in-all, My Lousiana Sky was a great book!
Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever !!!! Review: I think Tiger Ann is a great character who gets by pretty well in a mixed-up life. She shares a great relationship with her parents even though they have mental problems, that make them seem like less of a person to everyone else.
Rating: Summary: My Louisiana Sky was a great book. Review: I thought it was a very good book. I liked Tiger because she always stood up for herself and her parents. She was smart and very dependent. I thought it was a funny and sad at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Your Nose Will Be Stuck In This Book! Review: I thought the novel "My Louisiana Sky" has a great plot. I should say it is in between historical fiction and suspense. The story is about a girl named Tiger that lives in Saitter, Louisiana. She's great in school but her parents are slow. For many years Tiger did not know what was wrong with her mother untill her aunt tells her the tragic news. Through this novel, Tiger deals with her problems very well and pulls through her goods times and bad times. I think that it would be hard for you to put this book down for even a minute! That is why i gave this novel 5 stars. Some people I know thought this novel was boring, but I say you would enjoy this book very much!
Rating: Summary: What I tought about the book Review: I thought this book was very good. I am close to Tiger age and so I could relate to what she was feeling. You dont have to be her age to understand her. She had to overcome a lot of obsatcles. Like the he one when she as to decide where she want to live. A nother exaple is when she gave up playing bassball with the boys. I like a book with drama and susppenc. The susppenc is what makes a good book. The other thing I like the way the aouther tells what she is thinking so you dont just get told what she is saying you hear both. I would reckomend this book to girls 10 and up and to any one that likes drama and susppence.
Rating: Summary: Southern sweetness Review: Ignorance is bliss for Tiger Ann Parker, growing up in rural Louisiana during the 1950s. She knows that her parents, who are mentally challenged, are a little different from other people's parents. Her feisty grandmother shields Tiger from the unkind comments of other people, and makes sure that Tiger's physical and mental needs are met. But things are changing for Tiger. Some snotty town girls begin to mock her family and ostracize her, while her best buddy Jesse is starting to view her as more than a friend. The sudden death of Tiger's grandmother sends her whole world toppling. Who will take care of her now? Her sophisticated aunt's life in Baton Rouge is tempting; Tiger even visits with thoughts of staying permanently. Yet she feels out of place in the big city, and realizes that her true home is back with her parents, who love her and who possess strengths that she has never known about. This novel includes great details of time and place, including TV as a novelty, Hepburn haircuts, and a pink tiled bathroom! And while some of the novel's turning points seem a bit contrived, there is a heart and a sweetness which make this southern story one to savor.
Rating: Summary: Strong characterization, realistic story. Review: Kimberly Willis Holt's My Louisiana Sky is an involving leisure read for teens. Spunky Tiger Ann is bright in school but is always teased about her parents, who are mentally slow. The entire family is cared for by a live-in grandmother: when she dies unexpectedly, it seems up to Tiger to hold her family together. Strong characterization drives this realistic story.
Rating: Summary: I love Tiger Ann... Review: My Louisiana Sky is a beautifully drawn portrait of a "real girl". Tiger Ann is as genuine a character as you'll find in middle-grade fiction these days--full of doubts and questions about where she belongs in her world; sometimes loving and tender, other times impatient and even unkind. Because she is so real and the book is written from her point of view, it's a convincing and memorable story. Reflective rather than fast-paced, there is still enough action the book to keep the less patient reader interested, such episodes detailing baseball games and a terrible storm. I enjoyed this book immensely, and hope it finds its way into the hands of many young readers!
