Summary: Tiger Ann Parker's Personal Stuff
Review: "My Louisiana Sky" is a great, exciting book about a 12-year old girl! She isn't just some goody-goody two-shoes though. You can tell my her name that she is tough! She is great at basball and doesn't care about her looks. Of course, she has some problems at home. Her parents are, well, slow in the head. It's ok though! Tiger's strong and smart grandma can take care of practially everything. Until she's dead as a doornail. Tiger is really having a hard time until her Aunt Dorie Kay comes and offers Tiger a way out of this mess. If I were you, I'd want to grab this book right away! If you like adventure and good charaters, then this is most definitely the book for you! Believe me, you won't dislike this one. It's good from the very beginning. I'm telling you, GET THIS BOOK!!!!

Summary: Most exciting book of the season!!
Review: A middle aged girl has a tough time growing up. Along with her mentally slow parents, she has to deal with many other challenges. Suddenly her grandmother dies leving her with a whole lot of responsibility. She has a way to get out of it but will mean leaving her family behind. What will she do?
I loved this book because the fact that Kimberly has so many troubles at the same time. I had to read to get into it at first, but it became so good I suddenly couldn't put it down. Her grandmother is one of my favorite characters with her silly ways, and love for her family. I almost cried with Kimberly when the tragedy struck, and couldn't believe her huge decision. I loved this book and reccommend it for all ages!

Summary: Nice first effort
Review: A sensitive and well drawn story of a young girl torn between her love for her mentally imparied parents and her need for social acceptance. The underlying theme of tolerance is nicely presented and not heavy handed.

The first person narrative is usually a little disappointing and this is true in this story. Also, the parents are too good, as though mental impairment is accompanied by strength of character which is not always true.

All in all, a good, easy read with some valuable messages.

Summary: My Louisiana Sky
Review: As the daughter of two mentally slow parents, Tiger is accustomed to living a different life compared to her peers. Her grandmother, who is the stronghold of their family, provides Tiger with the guidance and support that she needs while growing up. However, the summer before 7th grade proves to be a life-changing time for Tiger when she faces the sudden death of her grandmother. As a result, Tiger must decide whether to begin a new life in Baton Rouge with her aunt or remain in her hometown of Saitter, Louisiana to care for her mentally retarded parents. This book captivates the reader's attention through the maturation of a thirteen-year-old girl who is forced to deal with adult responsibilities and decisions. This book would be interesting for 5th, 6th, or 7th grade students. Parents and teachers can use this book to promote the subject areas of Social Studies, Language Arts, Health, and Art.

Summary: My Louisiana Sky
Review: I am 11 years old, and I don't think this book was very good. It was a very slow book in that it didn't have many events in it. If you're like me, and you like books that are very adventurous or mysterious, I wouldn't suggest this book. I would reccomend this book to girls the ages of 9 or 10 because it isn't hard to follow what is happening.

Summary: My Louisiana Sky
Review: I am a girl who's 12 years old who really enjoyed this book, but thought that a boy my age would not have enjoyed it as much as I did. This book really deals more with girls' emotions rather than boys'. It goes through things that a girl who's 12 years old might be experiencing in real life ... such as teasing and knowing that someone was having a party that you were not invited to, but everyone you knew was invited. Boys might be experiening these same things, but probably would not think they were as big of a deal as girls would, or would handle the situation in a different way. I enjoyed the book becuase it showed how difficult life can be even if you are only 13 years old and how many decisions some kids have to make at such a young age. It really made me think about how lucky I am that I have a "normal" family and do not have to make life decisions. As I said earlier, I really enjoyed this book and think that any girl my age would, but I do not think that boys my age would enjoy this book as much as a girl.

Summary: You MUST read this book
Review: I can totally relate to Tiger's experiences: Not being accepted, confusing boy problems, and being embarrased by your parents. Then Tiger has the oppurtunity to change it all like her aunt did. It was definately one of the best books I ever read. If you've ever been to Louisiana in the summer, that is exactly what it's like! The book has a great ending and the climax is excellent. I couldn't put the book down!

Summary: My Louisiana Sky
Review: I had the opportunity to see and hear Kimberly Willis Holt when she came to Guam to speak at an International Reading Assn. meeting. It was wonderful to hear how she got started and where she got the background for her story. As I read the book, I felt I was a part of it. I could picture the things Tiger would do, say, and even feel. Great book for kids of all ages.

Summary: I found out why this book is special.
Review: I know Kimberly. We're in a writing group together. I got this book and read it and it was a good read, but why all the awards? A simple little book, good story. Then I realized it was more, it was a sutdy in beautiful economy of words. She takes a few exactly correct words and says what most of us try to do in paragraphs. This is a must read for all those who want to learn to say what they mean, then quit.

Summary: Something is Missing
Review: I liked this book at first. But as I continued to read, I became very disappointed. The plot is not fully developed. i was waiting for something to happen, something to complete it. But nothing ever did. There is not fulfillment to the conclusion. "My Louisiana Sky" just does not measure up, despite its realistic characters.
