Rating: Summary: A really great book!! Review: When Cassie Blake moves to New Salem, an island off the coast of the infamous Salem, she discovers a coven of witches that have been ruling the island for years. She is accepted as a half-witch by the Secret Circle, but soon realizes that the boy she met and fell in love with on the coast that summer, Adam, is really the lead witch's boyfriend. What will happen?? Well, I guess you'll just have to read the book, won't you? This is the first book I read by L. J. Smith, and it's how I found out about all the other great books she has written. I really loved this book, and the rest of the series, too. I know you will love it if you just read it!!! ~Sunn

Rating: Summary: AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! Review: I am going to tell you to read this book, because it is really a great book, but I'm warning you, the other two are hard to find, and it really ends in a cliffhanger. I've looked around in 2 states for the 3rd book, and I STILL haven't found it yet. I'm beginning to get REALLY mad! Well, a book this good can kind of do that to you..
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: Out of all her (Smith) books, I find this one to be my personal favorite. The story is about a girl name Cassie who finds out she is the last of a long line of powerful witches. She must use her power--along with the rest of the coven (The Circle)--to battle evil that could destroy them all. Even though the plot is excellent, what makes this one my personal favorite is the main character, Cassie. Cassie is a girl who goes from shy and weak, to an independent, strong character. If you like a little romanance--yes, they are some mushy scenes, but I find them well done--colorful characters, and a great plot then I suggest you read ALL the books. In my opinion, the trilogy has A LOT to offer.
Rating: Summary: This book is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! Review: If I was to ever become stranded on a deserted island then this is the book I'd wish to be stranded with, along with the other two books that finish the trilogy, of course. A friend of mine gave me the first book, "The Initiation" a couple of years ago and I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I took it and read it. I wasn't able to get the other books right away, and I was like a mad-woman searching high and low for these books. I finally got them and they delivered just as much entertainment as the first one. Cassie has just moved from sunny California to the an east coast city (perhaps 'city' is a stretch) called New Salem. She soon realizes that the people who live on her street and form a clique called 'The Circle' in her school are more than just a bullying gang, they are witches (yes, even the guys are witches)! Now as a member of this powerful Circle she begins to see life, nature, and love in a whole new aspect. But come to intrude upon her awakening is a dark force which has come back from the past. A past which is closer than any of the Circle could possibly imagine.
I highly recommend any and all of these books to anyone who loves a great story with very well developed characters. 'The Initiation' is a great start to a wonderful set of books!
Rating: Summary: Well done Review: This book is *great*. It's pretty obvious that Ms. Smith did her research on thisone - as a real witch, I recognized many of the spells and little tricks the kids did from my own Book of Shadows.Though the bits about Cassie's love for Adam, and guilt over Diana, were *so* sticky-sappy I practically had to wash my hands after reading it, the realistic info and non-demonizing view of witches was wonderful. And the bits about the outsider's feeling about witches, their hatred and fear, were unfortunately also well-portrayed. Cassie herself frankly isn't the witch "type" at *all*, but I'll forgive it. Read this book! - Twilight
Rating: Summary: Witchy, Fun, Adventurous, One Word Can't Describe It!!!!!!!! Review: I bought this book in the fifth grade for my birthday (Actually, I wanted another of L.J. Smith's novels, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES). I didn't read it until a year ago when I was in the seventh grade. It took a while to get started (The first and half of the second chapter were kind of boring; I wanted to get straight to the witchy stuff!), but when Cassie was driving into New Salem with her mother and grandmother, I was hooked! You'll love this book if you enjoy to learn about witches and if you just hate the "in" crowd at your school; it will make you think twice before talking behind their backs. Not REALLY what I call a horror novel, more of a "coming of age" or a more grown up BABYSITTER'S CLUB book (Except the Club members are from a long bloodline of witches!). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Rating: Summary: Delicious, traditional L.J.Smith Review: The Secret Circle carries LJS's mark all the way. You've got the strong female lead ... the beautiful (and wicked) enchantress ... the equally beautiful "good fairy" type ... the dark, brooding bad boy (the highlight of every LJS book). You just can't get enough of the woman's work - even if some of it sounds awfully similar to her other books. In The Initiation, it is exactly as the title suggests: Cassie is initiated into the Secret Circle, a coven of witches in New Salem, after many trials. Then she realizes that the guy she'd been obsessing over for the entire summer it seems like is her new best friend's boyfriend. Worse, the real "witch" of the witches - Faye, reminiscent of Blaise and Maya - finds out that Cassie's messed with her almost-sister's guy - and she starts to blackmail her. Meanwhile, an old evil has been released... For some good old-fashioned LJS delight, read this!
Rating: Summary: Witchy Review: This starts out w/ Cassie Blake as the main character. She's being forced to move to a new town her senior year of HS and doesn't even get a good reason. From her first day she notices there's definitely something off about this town and the students at her new school but she wants to fit in. She starts to do a pretty good job but there's something that makes her different from most of the others which she doesn't even know about herself.
Cassie thinks she's pretty normal in every way possible which I relate to perfectly, and all the friends she makes within the circle have their own unique difference so everyone can pick one of the characters and totally relate to them.
I love the way Cassie starts out in this novel very shy and whimpy and by the end of this book she's discovers something new about herself that gives her a little more confidence.
I first read this book in my early teens but own the complete trilogy and all three are just amazingly awesome - even 6-7 years later.
