It has anything you could want in a teen book, magic, mystery, romance, suspense, horror... you'll love it trust me. I reccomend this to fans of teen supernatural fiction. I can't wait to read the next two books in the trilogu, The Captive, and The power.

Rating: Summary: Makes you say "Wow" Review: This book really made me say "Wow" when I finished. It was such a GREAT book and a wonderful way to start off a trilogy. At first I was kinda turned off by the cover. So basically it was sitting on my bookshelf for about two or three weeks. Until one night I got real bored and decided maybe it would put me to sleep. But it did the exact opposite. I stayed up ALL night reading and nearly finished at daybreak! I should have already known it would be a great book I mean it was written by L.J Smith! I think Ms. Smith is a brilliant author who never ceases to amaze me with any of her books that I've read so far. So if you are a true L.J Smith fan (which you should be) PLEASE don't be like me. Get the WHOLE trilogy as SOON as you can. Because now I am sad to report that I cannot seem to get my hands on #2 The captive. Which is driving me utterly INSANE! So save yourself the aggravation and your sanity and get your hands on the WHOLE trilogy.
Rating: Summary: Beginning of a great series Review: I liked this series a lot. It's about a group of teens who are the descendents of the real Witches who escaped the Salem Witch Hunt. A young girl moves to this lonely town, and discovers her ancestry and awakening powers. When I first read the series, I thought part of the plot was too melodramatic and unbelieveable. It would have all unravelled if the character had used her head and been honest. Then I realized, this is EXACTLY the way kids at this age think and how they view their life. As an adult, I wouldn't make the decision she did, but looking back to when I was younger, it's exactly what I would have done. It's nice to see an author knowing how kids think and using it for the plot.
Rating: Summary: Hereditary Witches In New Salem, Massachusetts Review: During her summer vacation in Cape Cod, Cassie Blake meets a mysterious young man (Adam). Their meeting lasts only a few minutes, but Cassie finds herself unexplainably drawn to him, as though "they were connected by a silver cord". Once he leaves, Cassie is sure they'll never see each other again. But then news of her sick grandmother drags Cassie and her mother away from their home in Reseda, California, to New Salem, Massachusetts--Adam's hometown. But before Cassie can reunite with him, she meets a dangerous pack of girls (Faye, Deborah, and Suzan) who belong to an exclusive club of about nine other New Salem teenagers. One of the members (Diana) befriends Cassie and gradually tells her about The Club. Although there are a few decent members, Cassie still feels uneasy around them, especially when Kori (a cousin of one of the members) is killed before her initiation into the coven. And now, The Club wants Cassie to take her place. If she joins, will she share the same fate as Kori? "The Initiation" is the first volume in The Secret Circle trilogy, followed by "The Captive" (#2) and "The Power" (#3). Both are worth reading if you liked "The Initiation". This trilogy is perfect for young adult readers who love suspenseful occult fiction. If you're looking for similar books about witchcraft, I'd recommend the following novels: "Wither" by J. G. Passarella, "Cat Magic" by Whitley Strieber, the Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy ("The Witching Hour", "Lasher", and "Taltos") by Anne Rice, and "Witch" by Christopher Pike.
Rating: Summary: Welcome to your destiny... Review: I love L.J. Smith's stories. She writes so beautifully. I've read this novel several times and absolutely adore the characters. Several of the characters reflect greek gods and goddesses which is a nice touch. Cassie comes into New Salem as an outcast, she's considered an outsider by half of the witch kids. While the other students think she too is a witch. It's only after the death of Kori Henderson that Cassie learns she is a witch and she was brought home for that very reason, to realize her destiny. She falls in love with her best friend/foster sister's boyfriend which leads to her being blackmailed. Which sets up the story line for the second installment of the trilogy. I loved this novel, especially Nick's character. I'd like to find a real guy like him.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: this book and the ones that follow are amazing!! when i start the book i can't put it down!! i'm onto book 3 right now.......wow!
Rating: Summary: Are you a good witch or a bad witch? Review: Are you a good witch or a bad witch? That is what Faye wants to know! Diana is a wonderful, loving, caring witch. Faye well likes to have her way. Sometimes you will hate Faye and other times she can be funny. The other witches in the circle fall somewhere inbetween good and bad. Some follow Diana and some follow Faye but they all have to work together because they are the last of the generation of witches in New Salam. The good witch Diana has control of the Circle however Faye is slowly trying to change some of the groups minds as she would love to take control come November when they vote for leadership. This book is great. I just could not put it down. L.J.Smith is a great writter and knows how to keep you interested and wondering. I went to the bookstore today and got the next 2 books and I have started the second book today. It looks to be even better.
Rating: Summary: Powerful writing but the ending didn't quite come together Review: Shy sixteen year-old Cassie is the new girl in the creepy small town of New Salem. Her mom has brought them there to move in with grandma. Now Cassie must start high school where she immeidately lands on the bad side of a psychotic trio of girls who seem to have supernatural powers. Everyone, including the teachers, fears these girls. Mom is remote and fragile. Grandma is taciturn and unhelpful. Cassie must evade real danger on her own without understanding why she is a target. It's as relentlessly grim as Cormier's The Chocolate War. Then some nice girls rescue her. The complication? The nice girls AND the mean girls are all witches, bound by kinship and shunned by the townsfolk. It turns out Cassie is also descended from witches and is entitled to a place in their coven. But the good and evil members are locked in a power struggle. I found the writing powerful and the story involving. But I didn't quite buy the situation shaping up at the book's end. It's supposed to be a no-way-out trap for Cassie. But a sensible and tough person wouldn't find it such a problem. I liked this book better than both Ravenwolf's Witches Night Out and Bird's So Mote It Be. But it didn't match Cate Tiernan's books.
Rating: Summary: The Initiation(Secret Circle, Vol1) Review: I own every series that LJS has ever written, and I'd have to say that the Secret Circle trilogy is the best. I'm now 23 and I still periodically go back and reread this trilogy. Mixed in with the fantasy are true feelings on how pre-teens and teens really feel. I enjoyed how Cassie started out as the underdog and how you really wanted to root for her all the way. It just goes to show that nice guys don't always finish last. I really enjoyed the inner struggles she went through and how in the end she eventually remained true to herself.
