Rating: Summary: A Wonderful and Sad Book Review: I have read all of Lurlene McDaniels book. Not because she's a really strong writer, I never thought that, but because she writes about topics that are still kind of taboo in Young Adult fiction. Her works are always powerful. I definitely think A Rose for Melinda is her best book. It really moved me. I felt for absolutely everyone. The characters weren't one-dimesional. I loved how she got inside everyone's head. The format of the book really worked for her. Sometimes e-mails and letters and IM convos get hard to follow and boring to read through for a whole novel. But this ran very smoothly. Her book showed how a horrible disease like cancer affects everyone. All in all, I really enjoyed it. Especially the romance between Jesse and Melinda. It was so perfect, no wonder Bailey was jealous. I reccomend reading it. I guess that's why I gave it five stars. Two thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Review: I just bought this book yesterday, and so far, it is the sweetest book! I have gotten to the parts which turn sad, but it is still adorable! I absolutely love it! A must for any LM lover! It's written with journal entries, and phone calls, and notes, and letters and, etc, and it's just soooo cute!
Rating: Summary: Good, but flaky. Review: I love Lurlene McDaniel's books, I've read almost all of them, and I was definately not upset with the book "A Rose for Melinda." It's a very good story, very touching, and very sad. I really like the format it's written in - all letters, journals, and memos.A Rose for Melinda starts off with Jesse Rose and Melinda Skye in first grade. Jesse and Melinda have a great friendship, and always look out for each other. The friendship stays strong and great throughout 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. grades. Jesse moves away when his parents get divorced, but Melinda and Jesse are still best friends. Then, when Melinda is living her dream (taking professional dance classes in Washington D.c.), she faints. So, Melinda goes to the hospital, has some tests, etc. But, when the test results come back, the Skye family is shocked: Melinda has lukemia. Melinda's friends Bailey and Jesse are there for her all the way, and both Bailey and Jesse become friends too (with each other). In the end, will Melinda survive? Or will she need a bone marrow transplant? And if she does get a bone marrow transplant...will her body reject the marrow? This story is really good, but it's a lot like a Lifetime movie. I reccommend it, but this is one of McDaniel's flakiest books. Hopefully, her next one will be better. Overall grade: A-

Rating: Summary: ATouching Story Review: I read this book in one day. You just can't put it down. It is about a litte girl named Melinda and a boy named Jesse Rose. Melinda really loves ballet. Her only dream is to become a professional ballerina. She was in the Nutcracker when she was in first grade an Jesse came to watch her. Afterwards, he brought her a rose and the card said 'A rose from a Rose'. She had a crush on him. When they were in the sixth grade, Jesse's parents get a divorce. He has to move to California with his mom. Melinda lives all the way across the country from Jesse now. Melinda auditions for a summer ballet program in Washington D.C., and she gets accepted. It is a two month camp. All of sudden, she gets bruises on her legs very easily. She doesn't think anything is wrong. One day at ballet class, she falls unconscious on the floor. She is taken to the hospital in Washington D.C. Her mother transfers her back to a hospital in Atlanta. The doctor soon finds out that Melinda has luekemia. She gets through many hours of chemo-therapy. Later that summer, when Melinda's cancer is in remmission, Jesse comes to see her. She gets her first kiss and everything feels great that week. Then, weeks after Jesse leaves, Melinda's cancer returns. The doctor's tell her that she needs a bone marrow transplant. This is a very risky procedure an Melinda might not get throgh it. hey have to kill your immune system and you have to stay in a little room all alone. When Jesse hears this, he comes to see Melinda. He can't go into the same room with her so they are just looking at eachother through the glass walls. Melinda struggles greatly. She wants to talk with Jesse. To find out the ending, read A Rose for Melinda.
Rating: Summary: McDaniel Scores Again With Another Heartwarming Novel Review: I started reading Lurlene McDaniel's books last year, in 7th grade. The first one I read was Don't Die My Love. Ever since my first spoonful of McDaniel's novels, I couldn't get enough of it. In A Rose for Melinda, she uses a very different unique writing style, with a mixture of journal/diary enteries, conversations, letters, e-mails, instant messages, doctor's reports, etc. and writes with such passion and love. I started reading the book about 2 hours ago and couldn't put it down, and I finished it within an hour and a half. McDaniel makes you feel a part of the story, and makes you feel as if you were one of Melinda's closest and dearest friends. This book is now my favorite book of McDaniel's and one of my favorite books of all time. This novel started out making me giggle, then started to make me smile, cry (a lot), smile more, and fall in love with each character, especially Jesse. I wish all guys were as sweet as him! I recommend this book for anyone in general, but to be specific I recommend it for anyone with friends or family with any serious illness or a friend or family member who has died from one. Trust me, you'll never be able to forget a story such as A Rose for Melinda.
Rating: Summary: My Thoughts on Lurlene McDaniel Review: I started reading Lurlene McDaniels books last year in 7th grade because, for some reason, all my friends seemed to be very interested in them. So I figured I'd check 'em out. Once I started reading them, I couldn't stop! She has a way of touching people's hearts. Almost all of her books make me cry. I just bought A Rose for Melinda and I share her books with my friends, and they share theirs with me. McDaniel is an AMAZING author and I think ANYONE of ANY age should read her books!
Rating: Summary: Not her best Review: I think I've read all of Lurlene McDaniel's books, and I thought this was not one of her best books. I've enjoyed her books for years and feel she is an excellent author. But this book just didn't cut it. The story line was good, I just didn't like the way it was written.
