Rating: Summary: HOW BEST FRIENDS HELP EACH OTHER IN NEED. Review: Davida Wills Hurwin beautifully composed the novel A Time for Dancing writing sad situations that most of us has had. The novel is about these two young girls, named Samantha (Sam) and Juliana (Jules), who have been best friends since elementary. They both share the triumphs and face the tears together. They both have the same dream, which is to be professional dancers someday. Samantha and Juliana are best friends that no one can break. Sam is the girl who likes to party and play with her love life. Sam's parents are divorced but she just took it easily. She doesn't care about what her parents are going to do to their life as long as she can still do what she wanted to do. She likes to solve other people's problems, especially with her best friend Jules, but she can't solve her own problems. Jules is the girl who has weak trust to own self. She easily cries even a small thing that hurts her. When she brakes up with her boyfriend Jack, she still couldn't take it. There is Sam that comforts her and trying to force her to forget the guy. Jules' parents, Sandra and William, are also divorced but she still sees them both. Everything goes very well until, suddenly, a bad news strike them. Juliana got a cancer called lymphoma. No one knows how and why it's her that got the cancer. Because of that, everything around Jules changes. Pressure between the two best friends built up. Sam's the One and only isn't her One and only anymore. Even with the cancer and all, Juliana still went to the dancing contest she dreamed of. She doesn't quit. The day Jules past away, Sam have to decide to free Jules from her. She has to let Jules go so that Jules' soul can freely go to outside world. And people that Juliana left behind have to go on with their life. A Time for Dancing is in the genre of drama. The book has moving plot, which will make you feel the way the characters feel. Most girls will probably like this novel because of how the story goes. With lines of desperation and separation, you will get the image of what is going on. Like when Jules tried very hard to perform her part in the dance in front of excited audience. Even with the cancer she has, those painful journeys she has been, like taking a lot of chemo but did nothing, and not talking and had fight with her best friend and her life, she still had the courage to perform. The novel teaches you how to fight challenges you going to have. It also gives you the meaning of real best friend when it comes to a condition with a lot of difficulties. So if you are the person who likes actions and adventures types, you might not like this book. But if you like drama or sad stories, I will recommend this book to you because it has mostly dramatic lines.
Rating: Summary: Semi-good story with a basic plot... Review: I never felt like I knew the characters when I read this book. Sam's personality was harsh, Jule's was timid and weak. I suppose a dancer would like this book more, and understand the role dancing plays in it more than I do, so a dancer might like it. Sam and Jules have always been best friends, and are entering senior year at high school together. Until something major happens. Jules gets cancer. This is the story of Sam and Jules, struggling to make sense of their changing world. Jules withdraws, and Sam gives up, and the friendship drifts. Jules goes to chemo, can't go to school, and won't go out in public. Sam stops working hard at academics, focuses on dancing, and tries to get away from her turbulent life at home. It wasn't awful, but I won't read it again, and only read it for school. Suggested for dancers or people who like "teenagers being teenagers" stereotypical books.
Rating: Summary: A Time For Dancing by: Divida Wills Hurwin (Faathyma Clark) Review: They say that friends are forever but "what do you do when your best friend is dying". A Time For Dancing is a touching and heart filled book. Every person that reads this book will feel like they are a part of the book. The book explains a story of two girls Samantha and Jules, who have been friends for a very long time. The summer before their senior year Jules finds out she was diagnosed with cancer. Jules has no choice but to take months and months of chemo therapy, to try to help fight the cancer, even though there is no cure. After almost a year of treatment Jules decides to stop the treatment. In the book the author uses many literary elements such as mood, metaphors, foreshadowing, suspense and many more. I Feel the authors point to the story is you don't realize how much you care for someone until their gone.

Rating: Summary: A Time For Dancing Review: This book is one of those that tugs at your heart. It is about 2 best friends, Julie and Sam. They became friends when they were 9 years old and have remained friends throughout highschool. The one thing they both share a tremendous love for is dancing. Right before their Senior year, Julie gets sick and is diagnosed with cancer. The book is written in alternating chapters. One chapter is through Julie's eyes. It tells the struggles she faces while battling the disease. The next chapter is written through Sam's point of view and tells how she is dealing with losing her best friend. I think this book is suitable for 13- 18 year olds. It is especially appropriate for anyone struggling with losing a loved one to cancer. The thoughts, feelings, and actions of the characters are very believable. THe other must have lost a loved one or done some extensive research. THis is not a book for those who like cheerful, happy endings!
Rating: Summary: Touching, sweet, and poignant book Review: This book is one of my all-time favorites. It follows the struggle of a teen as she tries to overcome cancer. The novel is told from two different viewpoints: the girl (Juliana Michaels) and her best friend (Samantha Russell). Juliana and Samantha are long-time friends who have gone through everything together from getting drunk and shaving for the first time to participating in their all-time favorite hobby, dancing. As Juliana fights her battle, though, both come to realize that this is the one thing that Juliana will have to do alone. Samantha, as much as she wants to, cannot be a part of it. Juliana and Samantha drift as Juliana gets sicker and loses hope. The two friends and kindred spirits connect once more at the end of Juliana's battle in a very touching and poignant ending. This novel expertly weaves friendship, cancer, love, and death in a most memorable way.
Rating: Summary: MY FAVORITE BOOK!!!! Review: A Time for Dancing is an amazing of two best friends. Their friendship is thrown for a loop by the appearance of a life-threatening cancer in one of the girls' lives. What will happen? Will the friendship survive? I highly recommend this book to all young readers. It sets you right in on the action. You laugh and cry with the characters. You live their story.
Rating: Summary: A Time For Dancing Review: This is the best, yet saddest, book I have ever read. Some parts, I have read and reread, and every time fresh tears form. It has really given me a perspective I didn't think an unimportant teenager could have. Life is too short. The dark humor in parts teaches you that, instead of dwelling on death, you should make the most of life while you still have it. If you can't take anything seriously or don't know jow to cry, I wouldn't reccomend this book. For the rest of us, I am sure you will love every last word! Jules and Sam are typical best friends. They insult each other, laugh, and dry each other's tears where necessary. Both are brilliant dancers, with hopes of college or professional dance careers in mind. A persistent and excruciating pain in Jules' hip begins a painful journey for everyone involved. After several misdiagnoses, Jules is diagnosed with the most severe form of diffuse histiocytic lymphoma, CANCER. Intense chemo is induced immediately, and Jules feels like crap 90% of the time. At first, they don't realize it, but the two friends are growing more distant by the day, both dealing with bottled up feelings of isolation and despair. As it becomes evident that Jules will die, the two are more seperated than ever, each angry at the world and at life. Luckily, a few emotional, yet nearly speechless scenes ease each other's fears about death. The day before her death, Jules slips into a coma, and Sam must say good-bye for the last time. After death, there is the funeral. This scene is only two pages long, but it was so profound and emotional-at least to me it was. in the sequel, The Farther You Run, i think it will explain Sam's life afterwards. You will definitely need a box of tissues, but this inspiring, thought-provoking story about friendship, death, and dying is one I assure you you will not forget!
