You'll laugh, and cry granteed. I difinetly recemend this book to anyone who has a friend that means everything to them.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book Review: Sam and Jules have been dance partners and best friends for years. Then Jules is diagnosed with cancer. This book explores the way this affects each girl and their relationship. It is the best book our mother-daughter book discussion group has read. My one warning is to not read it in front of other people if you would be embarrassed to have them see you cry.
Rating: Summary: The best book I've ever read! Review: It was such a good book! If you are looking for a book to read, read this one! I read it in one day. It is very good! END
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER WRITTEN! Review: I was in fifth grade when I read this book. It is sad and has many cuss words, but overall is an A++. I am now in sixth grade and read it again. It is still real good and you can't read it too many times.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book! Review: I've read A Time For Dancing probably 20 times and still everytime i pick it up, I want to cry. THe characters are very real, they could step right off the page. I was very impressed and am waiting for another novel from Davida Wills Hurwin. If anyone knows of another, let me know!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book about life, love, and death. Review: Ever since my best friend's mother's death of cancer when I was five years old I have been facsinated with the subject. When I heard an excerpt of the book at a speech tournament I decided that I had to read it. It was a truly wonderful book. It dragged me in. I hardly could finish the book for fear that Jules wouldn't make it. I sat on the roof the last several chapters with tears streaming down my face. This is a truly inspirational book. Ms. Hurwin is a wonderful author.
Rating: Summary: Hooman P. says A Time for DAncing was very emotional. Review: This book was good, but sad. A personal look at how terminal illness affects the lives of best friends and those around them. Juliana (Jules) and Samantha (Sam) have been dance partners since they were nine years old. The summer before their senior year holds promises of good times and hard work at the studio. Then Jules is diagnosed with diffuse histiocytic lymphoma and needs massive doses of chemotherapy immediately. Despite everyone trying to act ``normal,'' Jules faces greater and more difficult choices each day. And Sam becomes increasingly confused as to how to live her own life and stay true to her dying best friend. Each girl take turns narrating a chapter, and family and friends' reactions to the crisis are genuinely portrayed. The impact of illness is accurately balanced with the rising crescendo of impending death. While the ending is not powerful, the closeness that the two teenagers feel and their bonding that transcends the body when death occurs come through clearly. Samantha and Julianna are best friends who spend almost all their time together. They even planed to attend the same college or pursue professional dance careers after they graduate from high school next year. The pair's plans are changed forever when they discover that Julianna has cancer and could die. That's what makes the story very sad. The book shows how people who know a person who has cancer or threatening disease can effect the people around them very emotionally. You get effected emotionally mor thn the person who has cancer. If you cry easily I wouldn't recommend this book to you.
Rating: Summary: This book is a great example true Friendship Review: A Time For Dancing is one of the best books i have ever read. Both the story line and the way it was writtten was so interesting and beautiful. Each chapter was written form the girls point of view. Ever other chapter was titled Sam and Julie. The author would take a situation and give both of the girls oppoin in frist person. I had never read any book written like this and thought it was so neat. It was about two young girls Sam and Julia who have grown up together and have been best friends for 6 years. They are practicly like sisters. Now that they are teenagers they are experencing normal teenage things like boyfriends and school. When they aren't in school they are dancing. The grils want to base their carear on dancing and practicly send their entire free time practicing and preforming. One day while Julie was preforming her hip hurt her. After that it keep getting worse and worse. She finaly got it checked out and she found out that she had cancer. It was such a shock and so devistating to everyone. She was only 17 and had so much ahead of her. I think the main reson I liked this book so much was because it showed the value of a true friend. Through everything Sam and Julie stock together. Even when Julie was so sick of being sick and pushed Sam away. Sam never gave up and never forgot about her. For a while they didn't talk, Sam went on with her normal life and Julie got jeliuos and only pushed away more. Through out the book it shows the struggles Julie went through with her family, friends, and school. The book shows even through the worst of situation if you have a true friend by your side you can make it through anything. As a teenager I can relate to alot of the situations, not like cancer but i can feel the pain of loosing someone so close to you. This book had one of the best endings because it shows that not everything turns out the way you want it to. This is the only book that has touched me so much I cried. I think this book is best for teenage girls and I think it will deffently be on their top tens list of the best books they have ever read.
