Rating: Summary: A Dream of Freedom and a Heart of Fire Review: Trapped in a world of darkness and slavery, under the rule of a cruel master who call themselves The Chosen of God. One day a young girl singing to her cabbages, another in a line of other 5-year-olds, headed for a life of slavery, mining for the precious fire-stone. Branded for the rest of her life as Quelled, Elsha had an unusual love of fire, and of the man she'd never met. A great man honored as the Fire Lord. The only being alive who could locate the precious fire-stone that kept the people alive.
On the morning after her 16th birthday, up earlier than everyone else to make up for the work she didn't do the day before, as a private celebration of her birthday, she meets a man in the service of the Fire Lord, sent to take her to him, to be his hand maid, the highest honor a woman could get.
Finally able to meet the Fire Lord, Elsha learns about a secret he has, something that will help her along her way. After being taken a secret place so full of love, Elsha fights all the more for her people. When the Fire Lord falls deathly ill, Elsha stays by his side, giving him sweet dreams of warmth and and comfort. Together the two of them head off to participate in the Great Fire Festival. It is an event Elsha has longed to be a part of it since she was a child, watching the excitement from her tent in the camp where she grew up.
Still shunned and beaten by the Chosen, Elsha fights to make a better life for her people. When something goes terribly wrong, Elsha goes on to the end of their planned journey and breaks laws going into a place only the highest of all men, the Fire Lord, was allowed, fulfilling her dreams, and helping her people.2
Rating: Summary: the best book i ever read Review: well it seems a little exagerated but it's not. winter of fire i picked up by accident at a book fair. well, it was no mistake. it ruely is my favorite book. i've lent it to friends who loved it and sent it to family members but most book stores don't have it. it is inspiring and moving. it made me feel like i could do anything i wanted. the sky is the limit and don't be afraid to break the rules it they're unfair.
Rating: Summary: I am elsha. Woman. Review: Winter of Fire has been one of my favorite books since I was nine years old. I'm 16 now and have read it like a million times. Elsha is so awesome! I want to be her! Winter of Fire would make a great movie! You haven't lived till you've read this book. It changed my life.
Rating: Summary: Beware of Subject Matter Review: Winter of Fire is a captivating book with an excellent overarching theme - equality for all people. However, some subject matter seems a bit "R-Rated!" Almost every time the heroine meets a young man, the young man wants to have sex with her. At one point the couple, that barely know eachother, are half naked before she stops. She does stop the young man every time, but only because of her dream that she must make come true. Her dream stops her, neither respect for her own worth or furture nor moral convictions. These scenes were unnecessary and could have easily been editted out. Two unresolved inconsistencies remain in the book: 1. The lesser position of women in society and 2. The worship of God and the abuse of His Name.
Rating: Summary: Wow! This is so Good Review: Winter of Fire is so cool! (no pun inteneded)It is about a furtue world where there is no sun, and everything is cold. The Quelled, a race that mines firestones to keep the ruling race, the Chosen, warm, is close to rebellion. Elsha, A Quelled, sets out to the mines one day and is chosen to be the Firelord's handmaid (the king). Even though this new job is full of honor, it comes with a price. The Chosen will not except who she is. To them, she is Quelled, and therefore has no mind. You have to read this!
Rating: Summary: A young slave girls battle towards freedom and a better life Review: Winter of Fire tell the sad but triumphant story of Elsha of the Quelled as she fights for a better life for all of kind against the Chosen. Elsha dicovers that life has many battles, big and small, painful and painless, but every one counts.
