Summary: Why doesn't the boy has a name.
Review: I think Sounder was a sad book, because at this time Afican American didn't have the right to do what they wanted. Overall it was a great book. It had good descriptions of events in the book.I think the author wrote fantastic book, but there is something I don't understand. Why didn't the author tell us anyones name, just Sounder's name. However, I think the author had great ideas. He made this book seem like it happened to someone. I give Sounder about 4 stars for the action, sadness, and good descriptios. I hope other people will give it a try.

Summary: The Anythings
Review: 'The pine trees would look down forever on a lantern burning out of oil, but not going out.' The book is like the lantern. It never goes out and never flames up. The book just keeps on going and going and going. You just can't get hooked. There is only one climax in the book, and that is when the boy's dad gets arrested which happens in the first twenty pages! The only character in the book that gets a name is Sounder. All of the other characters in the book are named Boy, Father, Mother, or Children. It will take you dog years to get through one page. Sounder stinks like a wet dog!

Summary: The Sounder Story
Review: ...Sounder is a book about a boy who has a dog named Sounder. This boy loves his dog so much, he wouldn't trade it for anything. Anyways, one day a white sheriff comes into the boy's house to take his dad to jail (prison). While the sheriff dragged the boy's dad to the wagon to take him away, Sounder runs after the wagon. The sheriff shot sounder until he fell to the ground while the wagon ran over him. Sounder fell dead. The boy was very sad and hurt. The boy buried him. Days passed, later the boy found that sounder was gone from the grave. The boy and his mom think Sounder is alive. Keep reading to see whether or not he's still dead or alive while other interesting things are going on."Suddenly something crashed against the fence in front of he boy's face. A jagged piece of iron tore open the skin and crushed the fingers of one of his hands against the fence." I didn't like that part because all the boy was doing was looking for his dad who was in jail. The sad thing about it was that after the white man threw the iron at him the man started laughing. The boy kept picturing himself throwing that piece of iron right back at the white man, but he didn't. He just walked away. I would want to throw it right back at him also. "There on the cabin porch, on three legs, stood the living skeleton of what had been a mighty coon hound. The tail began to wag and the hide made little ripples back and forth over the ribs." I like that part in the story because, I like the fact that Sounder was alive. I don't understand how Sounder could survive that injury. First, he got shot, and then he got ran-over by a wagon. Even through Sounder can walk only on three legs, has one ear a bloody shoulder, and he almost lost an eye, it's a good thing he is still alive. I don't have another favorite part or another part I don't like. This book was OK. Some parts were interesting while others were boring. The most interesting part that kept me reading was the part when Sounder ran after the wagon and got hurt. Even though it's sad that it had happened to him, it still keeps your reading. I would say that the majority of the people who read this book would like it. I'm sure that the next person who read it will like it.

Summary: Sounder is OK
Review: At first I didn't like the book Sounder at all because it was boring. I just couldn't get into it. Now I liked the book a little better. It is about an African-American boy in the racial early times of America. The boy does not have a great education because the school is far away. So one day his father gets accused of stealing a pig and was sent to jail. When they took the dad away, Sounder, the boy's dog, got shot in the side of the face and shoulder and then he ran away. Later on, the dad gets sent to hard labor and the boy searches for him. Before the boy went to search for his father Sounder came home. The boy sees a quarry and is looking for his dad and the guard throws a a piece of iron at the boys hands. Then the boy gets invited to attend a school and stay at a teachers cabin. Read on to see what happens.

Review: I would give the book Sounder, written by Willam H. Armstrong,a rating of four stars out of five.I liked the compassion that the boy had in his family, and the bible.I liked how hard he worked in the feilds and looked for his dad. I liked how the boy tried hard to read an get an education.I really admired the boy because he lived his life to the fullest, even though his life was full of sad things.I did not give the book the extra star because it had so many sad parts. It was sad that the boy missed having his dad around. There were many more sad things that happened in this great book.

Summary: 4 Stars for Sounder
Review: "Sounder raced after the wagon. No one yelled after him. The mother stood still in the doorway. The deputy who wasn't holding the reins turned on the seat, aimed his shot gun at the dog jumping at the side of the wagon and fired." This moment changes the life of a young, African-American boy and his feelings toward others. He undergoes the hardship of racism toward him and the family. The boy is determined to find his dad, who had been arrested because of stealing a ham for the family. He also continues to look for Sounder, the dog who had been shot and ran away. Then his luck changes. I give this book four stars because the subject matter did not catch my attension but still is a great story told from the eye of a African-American boy who didn't give up.

Summary: Sounder
Review: The boy, his father, Sounder. There once was a boy who lived in a cabin with his father, mother, brother, and sisters. He also had a dog, Sounder. Sounder would always go hunting with his master for food. One day they bought home a ham, and thats when all the trouble began. As you can see, the boy's life was pretty hard, with all the hunting. It was hard in the beginning, and got worse toward the end. I think this book is great. I would give this book four stars out of five. I also think you should give this book a try, and read it!
