Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: This was a quick and easy book to read and I enjoyed it. I really felt that Parr was a little removed emotionally from the problems of his sister Evie, and Evie's family went to extremes trying to avoid the issue of her sexual preference. The book does an excellent job challenging the sterotypes about love and what is considered normal. I would recommend this book to anyone who may be facing a similiar issue themselves, however this is not an action packed book and may be a little slowed paced for anyone other than an avid reader.
Rating: Summary: Not so much about Evie Review: While the title would imply that this novel was about Evie, it really is about Parr, a young man struggling with his desire to get off the farm, have a girlfriend and deal with his family. Evie is really a secondary character, and one that is pretty one-dimensional. Evie and her girlfriend fall into the butch femme stereotype and never grow past it. As far as being an accurate portrayal of what it is like to be gay in a small town, I don't think so. Both sets of parents took the affair between the girls pretty mildly and seemed to give up protesting all together when they "proved" they really wanted to be together. If you are looking for a good, realistic depiction of lesbian relationships, read something else.
