Summary: Frightening Tale
Review: I had this gut of a feeling while reading this book. Although I have nothing against "alternatives" this book was just too much for me. I was surprised to find how disturbed about this book I was, I'm one who doesn't find Stephen King, Ann Rice, nor any of the bunch scary...but THIS, was scary.

Summary: GREAT AUTHOR, BAD BOOK
Review: I have a read a few other ME Kerr books and they have been great, but I am sorry to say that book was horrible. There were some good parts in the book but it is simply boring and 95% conversation. The book was lacking plot and excitement. I would have given it one star but I respect ME Kerr too much. Her other books are some of my favorites but this one is definitly her worst piece of work.

Summary: Deliver Us From Evie=amazing
Review: I just finished this book about two weeks ago. I thought it was amazing. It had a great theme. I loved it. It is one of my favorite books along with Cut by Patricia McCormick. M.E. Kerr is an amazing author. We had to read Gentlehands in school a few years ago, i loved it, so I decided to search through her books. Anyway, it deserves five stars, it's a great book!

Summary: Decent book, but nowhere near the best
Review: I picked this up from my school library on a whim. Curious to see if I could find a book that surpasses the hideous Truth about Jane movie. While this book did indeed surpass the movie..it wasn't that much better. The focus of the book indeed is Parr and not Evie. Which I worked well for the most part, considering that "Jane" had too much concentration on the lesbianism and was somewhat more exploitative than protraying them sensitively. There also is a big hint of reverse-discrimination in this story. Most of the truly bad things happen to the straight people in Duffington. Also, for a story that says it's about breaking stereotypes. This doesn't do much for it. The farmers act like typical farmers. The lesbian is the tough butch. The lesbian's girlfriend is sweet and feminate. While they at least do acknowledge that they're acting like the stereotypes, they do *nothing* to break it. It's short, good way to kill an afternoon. Just don't expect too much lesbianism in it.

Summary: Interesting...
Review: I read Deliver Us From Evie several years ago, and then I took it back to the library. Then I checked it out again... and again... there's just something there that sticks with me. I wanted to write this review because I've looked at other reviews here and wanted to add my perspective. Yes, Evie is definitly a secondary character in this story, but what a secondary character she is! She's strong, she's intense, she knows what she wants, and she goes after it. In a way, I think it's very important for her little brother, Parr, to tell the story- I don't know that there is a whole lot of literature about the siblings of LGBT people. Bottom line: I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about this book that's important to me.

Summary: Reviewer from KY shares her views
Review: I read this book as part of a homosexuality in adolescent literature review assignment to get my English education degree in IN. By far, this is one of the best books on this topic, at least from what I've seen. It isn't too happy-sappy at the end; it has a very "real" feeling. Parr and his super-religious girlfriend are excellently drawn characters, and their changing relationship is an excellent side note to the main storyline. I highly recommend Evie to anyone, regardless of sexual orientation. It has a lot to teach us. If anyone's interested, I also really recommend a collection of short stories called "Am I Blue?" It has some M.E. Kerr stories, as well as some other wonderful authors.

Summary: A very good, realistic book
Review: I read this book this fall in 8th grade English. I thought it was a very good book. It had a lot to think about- especially when I wrote a 3 page persausive essay about it. It discussed homosexuality from a neutral standpoint, taking neither side. Parr (the narrarator and the subject of my essay) was an intresting person himself. He seemed to be so purely the ordinary kid. Evie seemed like that at first. The town, Duffton, seemed like a town you might find anywhere. Some people in my class said it was "so realistic it was boring." I didn't agree. It's not centered on action, but if you're looking for an intelligent look on this topic, you'd like it.

Summary: lezbos
Review: I really liked this book. It was about this girl named evie that was messing up her family's life because she dresses like a boy and she becomes a lezi with the family's worst enemy. she never is home and the girl that she is messing with is under age and her father hates evie so the police get involed and then evie moves and patsy disapears! where does patsy go? I recomend this book to 10 graders becouse it is a very mature book for the younger grades unless their have had delt with people that they no that are lezie'z and had help them out with their problems.I really think that this was a great book.you should read it sometime.
