Rating: Summary: a little masterpiece from an expert author Review: The first McKinley book that I read was "The Hero..." after that I was hooked. Ordered all her books when I finally put "The Hero" down. I must say, "Beauty" is one of the finest Fantasy/folk lore book I have ever read. The writing style is smooth, attractive and completely readable. The heroin and the other characters are well developed--the subplots are interesting. A must read!
Rating: Summary: Beauty is the perfect heroine Review: I really have found it hard to believe that all princess are beautiful and kind. Beauty was so believeable and down to earth that it made the story much more interesting. I really felt what she was saying and doing. It is my favorite bok and I will always read it to my children! _RUTH
Rating: Summary: The Definitive Version of the 'Beauty and the Beast' Legend Review: I remember buying this book in the sixth grade from a book-order catalog. When it finally came in I was in the middle of a nasty cold. I began to read the book anyway, and totally forgot about my illness because I was so absorbed in this enchanting novel. I am now in the tenth grade, and have enjoyed many happy readings since, my one copy becoming very worn in the process! 'Beauty' is definately the definitive version of the 'Beauty and the Beast' legend, better than any other. I highly, highly recommend it. A beautiful novel based on a beautiful fairy tale.
Rating: Summary: Excellent!!! Review: I first read this book when I was 15, but I still remember staying up way past my bed time with a flashlight under my covers to get a few more pages of reading in before my parents caught me up at 11:30pm. I just re-read it, and it was still as enchanting as it was all those years ago. A truly marvelous piece of work.
Rating: Summary: This was a great book that is hard to put down. Review: Beauty is a book that is a good romance novel that is good for boys or girls. It shows that you should look what is inside of aperson rather than whats on the outside. great book.
Rating: Summary: A funny, book that had nonsense happening all the time. Review: This book is funny in a serious way. Young childern would not understand the nature of this book. The humor in this book is more of the fansy nature in some of the things that are brought up in this book. All together, this book mixes fantasy with reality to from wonderful humour for ages 13 and up.
Rating: Summary: I love this!!!! Review: I have to have read this book over a hundred times (every time I get home from college and go to the public library - time to get my own copy!) and I still love it dearly. I'm so happy to have found it in print. It's a wonderful new twist on the Beauty and the Beast legend. Oh-also check out Mercedes Lackey's The Fire Rose (which I just finished) if you like Beauty and the Beast retellings - lots of enchantment there as well.
Rating: Summary: The best!!! Review: The first time I read this book, I read it in one day. The way McKinley described the castle and everything else was engrossing and I truly enjoyed the book. Beauty was a character who I could relate, too, being insecure. The Disney character was just some perfect girl, but this Beauty is a true person.
Rating: Summary: Warning....very addictive! Review: Unlike many versions of this fairytale...McKinley's retelling beats them all. Little and suddle events between the Beast and Beauty in the story won't let you put the book down!
Rating: Summary: This is even better the second time around! Review: I first read this book when I was in the seventh grade. I loved it and incidentally, I hadn't even read the original story, but I digress...I'm now a junior in college and I found an old copy in one of Purdue's libraries, so I read it again. It was twice as good as it was the first time. Don't miss this magical story by Robin McKinley, it's better that the original and the Disney Movie.
