Also, Ms. IbbostonAuthored other books like, “The Secret Platform 13” wich was named the best book of the year by school library journal. And “Wich Witch?” wich was given a runner-up for the Carnegie Medal. She also made another book called “Island of the aunts” wich by the way, was very interesting. The book was about three aunts that lived in an island and take care of it. They know that soon, they are going to die. So what do the aunts do? They go and look for three children to kidnap, so the children can now take care of the island. The mysterious thing of the book is that you don’t know what’s going to happen next. Theres even a lot of mysterious animals. Like a half man half seal animal called Herbert, he is a selkies, a mermaid family, an enormous bird that’s called a boobrie, and theres a big mysterious animal that’s called, THE KRAKEN. This story is so mysterious it will make you want to hold on to it.

Once again, I was not dissapointed. Island of the Aunts is about three aunts who take care of all kinds of mystical sea creatures. However, they are growing older and need some people to take care of their "residents" when they are gone. With this in mind, they kidnap two children that are named Minette and Fabio. Minette and Fabio, are two extremely wonderful children that come from horrible families. At first, Minette and Fabio are frightened, but they soon grow to love and adore the aunts. Later, all the animals as well as the aunts are in danger for horrible people who are trying to find them, and it is up to them to save the aunts and creatures they love.

Review: Aunt Etta, Aunt Coral and Aunt Myrtle are getting old and can no longer keep up with all of the magical creatures of the island like they used to - after all, mermaids, selkies, and boobries take a lot of work. However, they know that they cannot trust other adults to take care of the island the way they do so they decide that they need some children. There is only one problem - they don't have any children to train. The aunts decide that the only way is to resort to kidnapping. After all, some children just plain need to be kidnapped. So the aunts set of to mainland England and start sorting through children. They quickly learn that most children are horrible, nasty, selfish creatures who don't know how to work at all. The aunts are ready to give up when they discover Minette and Fabio, two children who are clever, hard workers, and, most especially, underappreciated at home. Aunt Etta and Aunt Coral arrive back at the island, having successfully kidnapped their likely candidates and are quickly followed by Aunt Myrtle, who panicked and kidnapped a totally unsuitable monster of a boy. What happens next on the island will surprise and delight young readers as amazing and wondrous events take place...This is an absolutely enchanting fantasy book for children. It is always fun to hear about normal people triumphing over great odds, and even more fun when those normal people happen to be normal children doing extraordinary things. Eva Ibbotson has a very nice, easy writing style that is quite simple and makes everything easy to understand. She is very attentive to her audience and always introduces new creatures with a bit of background information so that everyone is clear on what her view of a selkie/mermaid/boobrie/kraken/etc is. The type font is larger than usual and so perfectly suited to younger children. I think that this book is a marvelous option for those younger readers who are not quite ready to dive into Harry Potter. Although The Island of the Aunts deals with some serious subjects, Ibbotson treats them in such a way that they are very light and nonthreatening. A perfect book to read with your children or to offer to an older child as a longer alternative for their own reading time.

This isn't any ordinary island though. This island has some very strange creatures on it such as a bird the size of an African elephant. Aunt Etta is a very skinny and tall woman with a pointed nose. Aunt Coral was a rather large woman with a fat nose and huge lips. Aunt Myrtle is between her sisters. They are getting very old an need help when they die for some one to look after the island. They decided to kidnap some children and put them to work but its not really kidnapping becausee there's no ransom. The father of one of the children comes to rescue him but he sees all the special creatures. He finally gets talked in to thinking they aren't real. When the children go to trial the aunts are found not guilty. I liked the book because it was filled with adventure and its one of those kinds of books that you want ot find out what's going to happen next and you keep reading and reading to find out. It has a twist to it. The unusual creatures are cool. I think if your commited to reading it would be an interesting book for some one.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: One of Ibbotson's best! Review: Etta, Coral and Myrtle are three eccentric aunts who dwell on an island where they take care of the creatures who live there, including some very unusual ones: selkies, a boobrie (a sort of cousin of the dodo), mermaids, and a stoorworm (an Icelandic wingless dragon). Since the aunts are getting old, they need some younger people to help out and take over when they're gone, so they decide to kidnap, or "choose," three children who are unappreciated by their families. As usual with Eva Ibbotson's books, the story is filled with idiosyncratic characters, likable and unlikable (and the latter, of course, are hilariously obnoxious!). There's a kraken who's not at all like the usual sea monster; he's the Soul of the Sea, who patrols the ocean with his Healing Hum, the Song of the Sea. This is one of Ms. Ibbotson's best (and they're all very good!). Note: This was originally published in the U.K. under the title "Monster Mission."

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: A Story Just Right for All Ages Review: Every once and a while, I come across a young adult book that I just can't pass up and "Island of the Aunts" is definitely one of those stories. Eva Ibbotson has a style unlike anyone else, and she can spin a great story. Many years ago, several "aunts" became stranded on an island that no one else knew about. But that was just as well, because it was inhabited by mermaids, selkies and many other strange and beautiful creatures. Well, the aunts were getting on in age and decided they needed someone who would love and care for the island like they did. And who better then a couple of young children (kidnapped, I might add), who are unspoiled from the world. Read Ibbotson's "Island of the Aunts" and you will be in for a great story, with twists, turns and lots of laughs.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: What a shame! This doesn't even deserve 1 star Review: How absolutely dreadful that a book with talk of drinking, nudity, smoking, and killing could make it into an elementary school library. I am currently working with our school librarian, principal and district to have this book removed from all of Arizona's school libraries.
After an 8 year old reads this, can you imagine why they may think that "killing the headmaster" (actual statement from the book!!!)would be an appropriate act?! Heaven forbid this same child goes into the library to find any books on Christianity!!!!
