Rating: Summary: wow Review: At first I was like," oh god another pregnency book." But after I read it, I was like ,"WOW" It was a wonderful book.It made you think about what could happen when you do just one stupid thing, make you realize the consequences. How your family may not accept it, but there are people that can help, and other girls just like them.
Rating: Summary: Great first novel Review: Don't Think Twice is a fine debut novel by Ruth Pennebaker. Pennebaker's narrator Anne Harper leads the reader through her weeks spent at a home for unwed mothers with a razor-sharp sarcastic wit and an increasing self-awareness. The cast of supporting characters allows Pennebaker to show teen pregnancy and its many effects, and the setting in the late sixties lets the reader know both how far we've come and how little we've progressed from the idea that an unwanted pregnancy is entirely the girl's responsibility.
Rating: Summary: Don't think twice Review: Don't think twice is an easy read, for someone who just wants something to pass time. Basically, what you see is what you get. The main character Anne is a 17 yr old girl, who gets pregnet by her boyfrind Jake. Throught the book, she finds herself. I think this book is ment for a younger age group, but still, entertaining none the less.
Rating: Summary: Great Story Review: Don't Think Twice, set in 1967, is an excellent read. Pennebaker gives an real feeling and entertaining novel. Anne, the narrator, is a genuine character that feels real to the reader. The narration in this story comes out smooth and full of life. What I love most about this story is the multi-layered look on teenage pregnancy. Peenebaker gives us story that could possibly be true. There are no heroes and no happy ending to it which makes it even more believable. What lies in the pages of this book is a complex look of a touchy subject even in today society. In between Anne's dark wit and sarcasm lies pain and uncertainty. The author cast a glimpse into a serious situation without point fingers at anything but reality. Don't Think Twice hits all the right key and is a enjoyable and thoughtful read.
Rating: Summary: The Best of the BEST Review: For any young adult girls, this is the best book to read. Not only is it about the main character, Anne, and her unwanted pregnancy, but it's about a girl, kinda like any other teenager, trying to find herself. Read it! I know you'll like it.
Rating: Summary: Don't Think Twice -WOW! Review: I absolutly LOVED this book! Although it started out slowly, the end had me gripping onto my chair for stability. I cried my eyes out. Don't Think Twice literally changed my life and my views on teen pregnancy. Anne's transformation as an expecting mother is what transformed me as a reader. Pushed into this place where she thought she had nothing in common with anyone else, this teen went through so many stages of pregnancy. Through rejection and depression, and then to feeling nothing, more or less, until she finally loved this person she had been keeping safe inside her. Ruth Pennebaker's book significantly changed my life and this is an amazing book I recommend to any teen girl. This book has a heart and a soul that melts your emotions and flips your world.
Rating: Summary: Kind of like "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson. Review: I found the story somewhat similar to Anderson's book "Speak", though of course Anne was not raped. Their voices -- sardonic, somewhat cynical, humorous, kind of like Ambrose Bierce -- were similar. Anne was a very astute observer who describes her fellow unwed mothers vividly. Details like the fake wedding rings they had to wear when they left the home made it all real to me. I'd never read a story set in an unwed mothers home before and didn't know what it was like, but this story told a lot. You could see how Anne matured throughout the story. The description of her infant is poignant; it might make some readers cry. She did the right thing by giving the baby up.
Rating: Summary: The cover doesn't do justice Review: I just havta say, the new cover for the book doesn't look very appealing and I think the cover that was on the edition I read was much better but that's besides the point. This book was WONDERFUL. There is no judgement and it is full of honest truths. Anne at first appears to be unlikeable but once deep into the book, you feel for her very much. The different situations that the other pregnant girls went through were also very well described and written. Considering this is Ruth Pennebaker's debut novel, I am much in awe of her writing talent and look forward to reading her other novels. Even though you've probably read other synopsises of the story, my version is: An unwed pregnant teenager is pregnant in a time when she shouldn't be: the late 60s. Abortion is still illegal and her family is in no way accepting of her predicment. She is sent to a home where girls of the same age and in the same situation are sent. The book takes us through the pregnancy months and we watch Anne's situation change and her own self grow and change. This book is NOT sterotypical and I urge you to read it!
Rating: Summary: better than expected Review: I know what your thinking, "oh no, not another book about , some teenage girl who gets pregnant and blames it on her boyfriend" but this book was actually really good. I'm the kind of person who finds an author she likes and reads all of the author's books. But i saw this book, decided to try it, and was happy with it.This excellent coming of age novel is about more than just Anne trying to deal with her pregnancy. Its about her struggling to fit in with her family, come to terms with reality, and make friends with the girls she'll have to live with until her baby comes. Even if it doesn't make you laugh or cry, i have to say, if i was doing some of the things she was with her boyfriend, this book would make me want to stop, because the author does an excellent job of showing all the problems that come with unplanned, teenage pregnancy. I highly reccomend this book
Rating: Summary: I like this book. Review: I like this book becuse it is fun to read but I was also shocked becuse I thought the girls would like to keep their baby's. Wouldn't you?
